I would be okay if Futurama did a video game spoof of Super Mario 2, if Bender, Leela, Hermes, and Amy are the playable characters in it.

I think it could potentially make a great game. The original game on the PS2 was balls though.
By the way, there are Futurama character skins for Unreal Tournament 2004. They are so much fun to use; dialogue from the show is used for their voices. Nothing is more hilarious than playing as Bender, killing someone, and then hear him say "Life goes on. Except for you!" Or as Fry: "Didn't you used to have a body of some sort?"

If they do, I would like it to be fun, not average gameplay you do just to get to the hilarious cutscenes.   Also, all of the characters should appear, (having Hermes have no speaking lines and have Amy not appear at all felt jarring).  

I also think all the main characters should be playable in one form or another.  I see it being as something like this:
Playable permanently (since they either can hold their own in a fight, or have significant combat skills)
Fry, Leela, Bender, Amy, Zoidberg

Playable for specific missions/minigames:
Professor, Hermes, Nibbler, Scruffy.  

Mom should return as the primary antagonist, and we should have Zapp as usual trying to foil her plans, but always playing straight into her hands or making things worse, and Kif still being the ignored voice of reason.

Npcs that play a large role in the plot:
Lebarbara and Dwight, Morbo and Linda, Calculon.

Npcs with minor roles:
Petunia, Hattie, Sal, Roberto, Crushinator.

I'm not a game designer, so this may sound like a horrible idea for a game, but what about a Futurama game where instead of seeing cutscenes, you get to explore planets and New New York in the Planet Express Ship, completing missions to find parts of 5 never before seen episodes, which are available to watch when all missions have been completed. Because we all agree that the best part of the Futurama game was the cutscenes.

And Bender's levels. And Leela's. And Zoidberg's. Personally, I felt that the gameplay itself was superb (even if the difficulty curve was fairly steep after landing on the sun) for all the characters. But... I do know what you mean with Fry's levels. Running around NNY as Fry was pure win.

I'd like to see a new Futurama game, preferably with elements of things like GTA and the "sandbox" environment, but also with FPS elements. It'd be nice to play original characters as well. Say you get a level where you're working for the Robot Mafia, and need to fight your way through the police station to shoot a snitch before he spills the beans. Doing it as Clamps or Joey would be kinda predictable. Doing it as some lowly underbot trying to rise through the ranks would be fun. Especially if you complete the level, and then end up being offed by Bender. For some reason.

But that wouldn't be until after you'd stolen a police hovercar for a thrilling chase/getaway level.

Piloting the Donbot's space limo, chasing the PX ship would also be within the realms of possibility - if there's something worth stealing being delivered.

With Futurama's triumphant return to the airwaves, we might see a new Futurama game come forward once somebody decides there are unexploited opportunities to cash in.

It will most likely be a downloadable game only. Like 'South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play'.

The closest you americans have got to a new game is the new Head in a Jar app for iPhone, but even still, that's not really a game.
