First details on #51 and a hint at what may be in #50

Quote
(W) Rogers (A) Lloyd, Kazaleh
Bender and Fry battle it out in a kitchen nightmare of their own making to determine who will be top chef at Planet Express; however, they will be forced to make the meal of their lives when some unwelcomed dinner guests come to call!
Also, Zapp Brannigan and Kif go on a blind date!

Plus, this issue features the second of six awesome Futurama posters, suitable for unfolding.

Looks like issues 50-55 have posters in them. Possibly awesome, but I'll wait and see on that part.

Ugh, can they just fucking feed mike to the man eating ant eaters already?

Not to mention Jason Ho's comic covers are bland and uninspired.

Just got my copy of issue #49.  I must admit I was a little bit doubtful about it.  But I ended up enjoying it!  Best issue of the year so far since #47!   Loved the 'puppets' that turned out to be clones of the crew (wonder why there wasn't an Amy one?)  and the subplot with Leela trying to be less stressful!  It was cool to see Master Fnog get his commuppence!

The best part was Bender and his puppet performing and getting after Fry!  Awesome comic!  Let's hope #50 is good!  Like the promotional picture to it.  It's cool to see all the characters get captured and not just one of them  I give this comic 5/5!

Looks like the reviewers are finally starting to see Kazaleh's flaws (horrifically, they've usually always given him decent reviews, ugh). This is for #49:

http://www.comicsbulletin.com/reviews/127515331845660.htm

Quote from: Ray Tate
Leela's stressed out state may explain why she looks so frumpy. Mike Kazaleh and Dan Davis are off their game this issue. The proportions of Leela's head are out of synch. Admittedly, Leela's a Cyclops, but the monocular isn't the problem.

Leela’s upper lip and nose aren't large enough. The usually brilliant Art Villanueva adds to the problem. The way he applies lipstick makes Leela resemble a clown. With the too heavy fuchsia ring girding her mouth, Leela's lips consistently distract, and not in a good come-hither way either.

Leela's wardrobe needs an extreme makeover. When she's in her flight clothes, she looks a little better, but she's not svelte enough. At times she appears squat, and her hip size quadruples.

Perhaps, Kazaleh and Davis are attempting to make a statement about the link between weight gain and fatigue, but a book like Futurama Comics relies heavily on visual consistency, and nobody in the book points out how unusual Leela looks.

Things grow worse when Leela is alone. The horrid hot yellow full-body night dress she wears is completely out of character. In the scenes I've seen on Futurama, Leela wears tank tops and briefs to bed. So, either everybody dropped the ball on this one, or they're trying to say something that isn't very clear.

I actually agree with their review wholeheartedly. The art was horrid even for Kazaleh, and that brought the issue down a lot for me. A simple switch of artist to James Lloyd or even John Delaney would push the grade up quite a bit, in my opinion.

Picked up #49 and #50 this morning. #49 was above average, #50 I quite enjoyed. Nothing hugely special about the story - others have been more interesting or eventful, but this one remains fun, Just flicking though from Kazaleh to Lloyd (who does #50) and the difference in quality is hugely apparent. I mean one may say that Kazaleh has a quirky, comicky style (and some of his work I've still quite enjoyed) but often it doesn't really suit the show's style at all. I may not share quite the same level of passion about it, Freako, but needless to say I agree with you - would prefer Lloyd and Delaney.

/edit - oh yeah, potential "hang on!?!" from #49 - Leela nearly run over by traffic...all of which is wheeled???

Wait, what? How'd I miss the wheels? Oh, right, it's a Kazaleh. Always best not to look directly at one of those issues. Makes it more enjoyable.

Edit: Oh yeah, 51's blurb implied 50 has a poster in it. Does it?

Issue 50 came out today and man was it epic.  It felt like this should've been an episode for this season.  Glad they focused a lot on the writing for this comic.  I liked the whole scene with Amy, finding out she's less cute while with Kif.  Most of the comics just have an A story, but liked that this issue had a B story as well involving Kif and Amy.

Answering my own question; While I haven't got it yet, I did see the final cover which confirms the poster is in there. It also points out that http://www.bongocomics.com is now live. Their site points out that there's a comic-con exclusive issue out called "Delivery-Boy Man #1" by Philip Fry. is this the fabled comic series referred to in the quote "She even let me sit on her lap once. In this comic I drew." ? Did anyone make it there?

Just got the 50th issue!  Didn't have time to find it when I was away.  Really good story about Leela taking over Mom's company!  it was funny to see her beat up Mom's sons!  The subplot with Kiff and Amy was cool as well!   Glad to see Super Mario get mocked!  And those things were called Shyguys, not Bashful Boys.

The only thing I didn't like was the lack of Bender!  We should've seen him in the amusement park at the end with Fry and Amy!  Other than that, really great comic book!   I was also surprised to see a 'Dad'!  5/5!

So I just read #50, and the most hilarious panel in the entire comic was the second on page 28. To do such an epic parody and then throw it away was great. Would've loved to have an actual story with the combination of all those characters.

Well I just blew a crap load of money of futurama previous comics. I got volumes 15-24, 40-45, 1, 5, 9-11. It cost me $117.00 for all of that. I also got a signed volume 50 and the first issue of delivery boy man. That was another $100. I feel like shit, I spent that much money. O well, a little debt never hurt anyone I guess.

Now I need volumes 25- 29, 46-49, 2-4, 6-8, 12-14. I some times wander if being a collector is worth it. Probably not, lol.

Does anyone know when they will be releasing comic compilation number 5? I have the first four and I was wandering if anyone heard anything.

Lots o' stuff there. No word on another compilation yet, unless you count the tri-monthly "collectors editions" in Australia or the triannual double issues in the UK (I don't). By the way, I'd very much appreciate it if when you got done reading Delivery-Boy Man you helped out with the credits section on the Infosphere from the back page or possibly title page of the comic. Those details don't seem to be anywhere.

The Delivery-Boy man comic @ comicon 2010 was given for free or you had to buy it?
It was given out free. There may have also been a paid for signed version though, like there was for #50.

As far as we know, Delivery-Boy Man was a one-off comic con special. However it was labelled issue #1. Bongo may launch it as a second Futurama series, but they'll start by releasing #1 at stores rather than putting it into the main series comics. Given the amount of Simpsons series they have, it won't surprise me to see a second Futurama title.

I thought #51 was pretty good. Main Comic is a Lloyd, but the Zapp story is a Kazaleh. Have fun, Freako.
So much for my theory of that being a poster credit for Lloyd. The Kazaleh is a 1-2 page mini like they've done a few times before I take it?
Can you say that in English?
Lloyd and Kazaleh are artists on the comics, in the case of Kazaleh the term "artist" is used loosely.

#51; "Fry Cook!", is mostly a good issue. I'm guessing Eric Rogers recently had his first taste of Vegemite and had the standard reaction that foreigners who use too much have. Clearly Lloyd wasn't there when it was taken out of the jar.

Anyone wanting fan mail back in the comics will apparently get it soon. There's a full page ad telling people where to send letters.
