I'll pick mine up when I get back from holiday at the end of June. Since I won't be able to get it on the release date I'll shop around and see how cheap I can get it  :)

My copy came this morning!

The cover art is very nice. There is an Easter Egg and each of the 4 episodes features a short intro by Matt and David voicing over a video clip of various scenes from the episode.

The disc intro has them as well as Claudia Katz, Rich Moore, John DiMaggio and Billy West. Billy and John go into character as Bender and the Professor. No Katey sadly.

There is a full commentary for the "Hell is other Robots" animatic.

Pictures as follows, unfortunately I don't have a scanner:

DVD case
The Disc
DVD menu
Some of the artwork for the submenus is cool too

If you want to know what the Easter Egg is:

Spoilers ahead! Picture

Haha, the easter egg is actually pretty cool.  Neat picture.

Any tidbits on what they say on the intros/animatic commentary?  I'm assuming most of it is generic "in this episode, blah blah" stuff, but if there's anything particularly interesting and different I'd be curious to know.  Especially if they happened to be like, "Stay tuned for our next DVD!" or something.   ;)

Heh, well like you say most of the intros are generic "Welcome to this episode, this is one of our favourites from this season..." etc but the animatic commentary is the interesting one it's full length almost 30 minutes and David X Cohen gives some history of Bender i.e. what their early ideas were for him, and Cluadia Katz talks a bit about the drawing of the animatics and how many drawings are needed etc and theres some talk about the music, that it should have nominated etc and how some of it differs from the finished ep.

So, no great revelations but fun if you like some background info plus the rest of the cast and crew goofing around. Shame I'm not allowed to post an mp3 rip of the commentaries.  ;)

Grim: the intros and single commentary are all new.

Thinking about it, if this new DVD is a test from Fox. I may buy it just to push sales up and support the shows future possibilities...

I would think that there is a good chance it is a test.  Seemed to have been that way for family guy.  Considering the rumours that have been going on, I would say it would be a safe bet to pick one up just for support wise.  The amount its going to cost is not that much after all.

Family Guy was already renewed when they got theirs.  It even has a preview of season four I think, or at least the creator talking about it.

But yeah, this seems like somewhat of a test.  The main dvd sets didn't sell as well as FG, so they might be using this as something of a barometer for interest in the show.  Sort of a shame in a way, as I'm not sure how a single disc release is really going to sell for this show, but we'll see.

The good news is that it should be a nice collectors' item, and the first-week prices at some of the stores should be low enough to basically justify buying this.  I'll probably get this when it releases, both as a show of support and for the extra stuff (plus for the collectors item element).

I bought the new Futurama Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection today, not bad, bit disapointed though.

The main introduction lasts about 2 minutes with a further 30 - 40 second intro on each of the 4 episodes. The main extra is very entertaining, the animatic with commentary for episode Hell is Other Robots. I was dissapointed that the other 3 episodes have no commentaries, I was hoping for new commentaries, fresh from the ones on the old DVD releases. Nevertheless the commentary on here is one of the funniest out of all Futurama Commentaries. Not a great compilation, but what can you expect for £9.99 - I think David X Cohen sums the DVD up on the main introduction when he mocks how hard they worked to make this set. A few funny moments for the diehard fans, and perhaps a good starting point for the new casual viewer.

Pretty decent: 6/10

Oooh, that looks nice.  I'll be picking this one up for sure.  I'd get it just for the new art, but a new commentary seals the deal.  When does this thing hit the stores here in the US?  August?  That'll give me time to finish picking up seasons 3 and 4 on DVD.

^Matt Groening and David X. Cohen picked their favorite episodes from each production season. I'm guessing in their view, that "Anthology Of Interest I" is better than "The Problem With Popplers".
The tentative United States (Region 1) release date is August 23, 2005. [Which happens to be a date I have to go to school to do some things. But those things start at 10:00a.m., so I'll still be able to pick up the DVD (if it is released) in the morning, and have something to look forward to when I get back home.]

I've seen it on sendit.com for £9.99, but I didn't buy it, mainly because I only had enough to get the boxsets, which were £13.99 each (brand new, region 2)

Amazing, a boxset of 22 episodes for just £4 more than a compilation of merely 4 episodes...

So which episodes would you guys have picked, given that each production season has been represented. I'd have gone with

1. A Fishful Of Dollars
2. Mother's Day
3. Parasites Lost
4. Spanish Fry

1. Space Pilot 3000
2. AOI1
3. Roswell...
4. The Why Of Fry

Is the only reason they chose HIOR because the Robot Devil is in it?

I think I'd go with the same episodes, but I considered a change on AOI1, since I also liked WMIBaCiL and HHRHGB in Season 2, but AOI1 is a great choice all the less.

Luckily, my school starts on August 25, two days before the DVD's USA release. I'll be trying to get it before school, hopefully.

Xmas compilation? I can see the two Santa episodes being included, but what else?

A FEATURE-LENGTH XMAS SPECIAL, that's what!! You heard it hear first, on Bullshit Radio.

Hope there's a new DVD though, even if it's just another collection of old episodes.
