Is everyone experiencing audio problems with the DVDs? Whenever a character is speaking offscreen, the audio is a lot softer. Lines like "I can't quite read the sign" and "I wish I had two moms!" can't be heard at all. Realistic, but very annoying. I don't have Surround Sound, and according to the DVD audio options, I don't have it on. Is everyone experiencing the same thing? Can anyone offer any solutions? Or is it just me?

I cant say I have had any audio problems.

Maybe yours is somehow defective. If it continues, I'd say go back to where you bought it and exchange it for another one.

Hmm... Checked, and mine is fine, as well.  :hmpf:

Try turning the suround sound on then off again.

I've had the same problem.  I watched all the DVD's without a problem the first day it came out, but now I have to turn the volume up all the way on the TV for me to hear anything, and it still sounds soft.  I don't have surround sound either and I never touched any of the options on the DVD menu, so I'm not sure what's happened.  I'm going to check the other discs to see if they do it as well but I'll probably end up exchanging them.

I use a GoldStar DVD player and an X-Box if that'll give any clues.

Hey, Bender-is-Great, if you figure out the problem, be sure to post the solution!  :)

You may not be using surround sound, but you might have a mono speaker system. All the disks are encoded for stereo only, so when a sound occurs on the right hand side of the screen, you aren't going to hear it (I have the same problem).

Not much you can do about it, except buy a stereo TV.

i haven't had this specific problem. however, i've had other problems. i've worked my way through disc 2, and have started on disc 3. the audio during the menus for disc 2 is screwed up slightly - mom's line is cut off and utters a brief squeak whenever i return to the menu. also, while navigating the menu in disc 2, my dvd player crashed so hard i had to yank the plug out of the socket to get the machine to reboot. also, the label for disc 3 is horribly misprinted, just a washed out blue blur and a black smudge.

i guess there are bad batches floating around. i'll be exchanging this copy for a new copy.

I can't see the problem being with my TV cause other DVD's work fine as well as the cable TV.  I watched all the DVD's the first day they came out (I have a lot of time on my hands!)  :) and when I went to re-watch the same DVD's a day later, the sound was *way* quiet.

So j_ohanley, I've figure out the solution.  The DVD is kajiggered and exchanging it would be the solution.  ;)

Yours is, B-I-G, but if you check the syptoms, you have a different problem from j-ohanley.

Ohanley complains of the sound being softer when characters are off screen.

By your own testimony,B-I-G, you're having problems with the sound being soft all over.

I can guarantee you, j_ohanley, that getting a new DVD won't change anything. Not a guarantee. It's the stereo encoding, I tells ya! Repent! Repent!

wow. upon further inspection i've decided i'm either going blind or just stupid - my disc 3 label isn't misprinted. however in my defense i viewed it in very low light.

still, the disc 2 crash was pretty brutal. crashes happen on my machine (toshiba SD-3750) once in a great while - but this was nasty. i don't think i'll exchange it now, though. hopefully just a random thing.

Okay, I've done this much. Lines such as "I wish I had two mommies!" come through loud and clear on the Goldstar, but not on the X-Box. Other lines, like "I can't quite see the sign" can be heard on the X-Box, but not on the Goldstar. Ultimately, I can hear everything, it's just a matter of which DVD player I watch the episodes on. Annoying, but not kajiggered enough to exchange it for. ;)

One more problem, in Episode 6, after Fry says "Hi Bender", a strange voice cuts in and says something before the scene moves back to the PE building. Is this supposed to be there?

Thank you for your help all.

Thanks for your help, all.

bungle, my disc 2 has the same problems as your in regards to Mom's lines being cut off.  That sound is really annoying.  Has anyone else had the same problems with this, or is this how it's supposed to be.  Regardless, I'm loving this last set.

The only problem I noticed is once again on disc 2 on the episode BSNBAOT. When the the professor talks about the birthdate of cubert("It was 12 years ago next week, I used this very fork." ), the voice doesn't match with the lips. But it was only for that scene.

Only thing I noticed so far was in "Spanish Fry", right after Lur says, "I think I'll have Fry's lower horn jerked", Bender's line, "It's use to it!" was missing (and I had the volume up quite a bit).

SlackJawedMoron - not sure if my TV is Stereo, but your advice/suggestion makes the most sense.

Yeah, the Spanish Fry line isn't there on our (I assume mono, as there's only one speaker) TV in the living room, but on the one in our roommate's room (with 2 speakers) you can hear it fine. That must be it, slackjaw.... Whoooo!

Hmm, the audio on the episodes is fine on mine but I do have the problem with Mom's menu line being cut off but I think it only happens when I play it on my computer. Not sure though, I'll have to check. In any case it's not enough to justify returning it.

Yes. You're talking about the "BUSTED!" right before the song starts in the next scene. It's part of the song. DOn't worry about it. It's supposed to be there.

The end.
