Oh, Dr. T, (Hey! It's like Mr. T after med school!) you are fun! I'm very much loving your stories. Haven't quite finished reading the Social Order yet, but when I do, I'll drop you a note.

(pulls together shreds of dignity) I'll have you know that there are no comas in my story. Yes, they're unconscious for extended periods teetering precariously between life and death, but that doen't make it a coma! Er... wait.

Spacedal11: I think it's quite an interesting idea and could end up as an awesome story. I'd volonteer to help you out, but honesty, I'm a little occupado with my own writing. Good luck with it!

I actually don't dislike comas (or their functional equivalents) as plot devices as much as I let on.  They just seem a little soap opera-ish.  I hesitate to use the term "cliché" because that would imply I've seen a lot of fanfics involving comas or I watch a lot of soaps, neither of which I am willing or able to admit.

Let's see: doctors shaking their heads and saying, "I'm sorry there's nothing we can do?" Check. Pain? Check. Fear? Check. Dark anguished misery lurking in the depths of the human soul? That's a big check. Royalties? Still waiting for that cheque.

...I don't want to do a coma thing anymore  . You guys have scared me out of it. But even so, it wouldn't last like in your fic Layla or yours Venus. It would be like a 3 day thing then boom! He's awake. Cause that's not the point of the story anyway.

Layla: I'm just happy that you have provided me to occupy my time with your fic. And I know how long it is. I didn't read the end, ok the last sentence but it was to see how many more parts I had. I will take my time.

Now because of what Thunder said, I am skeptacle about this whole idea. Because I want to keep the humor alive but still get the point out there. I don't want people to read this and go "Aw fuck, another damn coma story. Like I haven't heard this before!"

Just a quick note for those interested, I've set to work on Chapter 5 of "A Past With No Future" again, so hopefully it'll be out and ready sometime towards the end of this month. Just thought I'd give the heads up... it's been so long since the last chapter, some of you may want to skim over the previous ones before this one's out just to remember what even happened.

You know, if people are paying attention to what I'm saying then I'm just going to have to stop saying stupid things.  Spacedal, don't not do something just because of its relative popularity or because DrT says something ridiculous.  Do what's right for the story you want to tell.  If that's a coma, then coma as you are...summon the posse comatatus...so be it.  I should know, after all.  If you look back to February of this year, there were at least three fanfics on the front page of this forum about mutant opression (Layla's saga "Fry's Choice," my less-successful "The Social Order," and Robman's less-finished "Mutants" ).  If I had avoided writing that fic because I knew it had a theme similar to Layla's, six people would have had to have found something else to read.

And at the end of day, you'd be using a common plot device, not copying someone else's story.  Anyone who couldn't see that probably doesn't matter anyway (or they matter less than the rest of us).

Thunder, you are like a motivational speaker. And it's not that I wasn't NOT gonna do the coma thing anyway. I was going to downsize it. But seeing that I still am working on another fic and haven't figured everything out yet, I don't expect this to release anytime soon. Maybe the coma thing will be out by then  . But I am thankful that you care enough to make me feel more confident.

Now, I really dig the idea for this new story you came up with. Sure, it's going to be complicated (especially when you're already working on one fan fic--trust me, I know), but I think that the final product would make for a great read.

You asked me if I would like to work on it with you. I would definitely enjoy that, but I think this story may be a little out of my league. The only thing I've ever written as far as fics go are my wacky little pseudo-fics. I'm sure I could manage it, it's just that I'm not sure if I could manage it in a way that would fit the story you want to do. Don't get me wrong: I've written drama; I know how it works. It's just that I can't write flat-out drama. I need some gags here and there. And I don't know if that would ruin the mood of your fic.

But, I'll make you a deal, because I really want to be a part of this project. Here's my proposal: if you open up a thread for this story (you know, like Dr. T and Layla and Bergey and Venus and I have), then I'll have an introduction for it written in two or three days. Thank you Gorky. But I double checked what I sent you and I only asked for a recommendation not for you to help (But there was a thought in my mind that was hoping). But I'm glad that you're willing to do it.

Now I totally agree with the comedy. This needs to have the funny to lighten up the drama. I have no problem inserting jokes in there. And I'll try and work out the war plot so there's not that much pressure on you.

I can send you some ideas now then if you can work on an intro with that. And I can make the thread.

Anyway, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. And don't be afraid to answer honestly. Did you have a specific mindset for what exactly the alien race would, you know, be? Because I sort of took it upon myself to write a page for this story of yours (not to undermine your authority over the whole fic, just to see if I could actually write it well...hope that's okay), and I kind of invented a germophobic race of aliens. Now I was just wondering if that was okay with you, or if you already had an alien race in mind. If you do, that's cool...I just thought I'd share my idea with you. I'd even post what I have so far if you'd like to read over it. Just say the word.

Well I was sort of thinking of Morbo's species you know cause he's always saying that they'll attack and they finally do. But I'm willing to open up to your idea. I'd love to see what you've got so far. And I know this is my idea but as far as I know, I'm going to share it 50/50. So I suppose that I should go and open the thread now. Which if that's ok with you, I'll do it.

Be patient people.  The Road To Fanzipar will be coming to Futurama Madhouse, soon.  I haven't been writing it because I've been busy with my job and life. 

All I can reveal about it is there's going to be a big chase scene.  The story will be coming soon.

You guessed it!  More fanfic ideas!  Let me know what you all think of these:

Towed in a Black Hole:  Fry and Bender chase after a get-rich-quick-scheme by buying a used spaceship in a junkyard that they try to repair.  Bender goes on a power trip, whilst Fry keeps messing everything up. 

Big Bender:  Hermes, Amy, and Zoidberg get kidnapped by the Omicrons, and are held for ransom.  It's up to Fry, Leela, and Bender to save them.  And Bender tries out a chip that the Professor installed in him that he thought would turn Bender nice, but instead, Bender ends up with a mean cowboy persona instead!  The tagline could be:  "When the Omicrons kidnapped Hermes, Amy, and Zoidberg...They weren't warned about Big Bender!"


These fanfics will come next year.  As for the one I'm currently working on, I have a life and The Road to Fanzipar will be written.  Let me know what you think of these fanfic ideas.

The first one sounds okay to me, though it's a bit vague to really judge, so I'd have to see a more elaborate synopsis to truly recommend going ahead with it.

The second doesn't really strike me though. I'd like to know WHY the Omicronians would even bother nidnapping those crewmembers for ransom to start with... it doesn't seem like something they'd do. And secondly (and more importantly) it really just sounds like a slightly tweaked rehash of "I Second That Emotion" to me.

No offense I hope... I'm just being brutally honest here.

I agree with Kif.  You're asking us to make recommendations based on a lot of assumptions.  I could see it working as a sort of relationship-based story.  My picture of this story is Fry and Bender buy a busted ship thinking they can fix it and flip it after watching one too many do-it-yourself reality shows.  They soon realize that the ship, like their friendship, is in worse condition than they had anticipated.  Fighting ensues, but with technical and personal help from a coworker (Leela would seem to fit the bill), Fry and Bender mend their mangled ship...their friendship, that is!

*Gets stoned to death*

And don't do the second one.  It's bad.  You can try changing the kidnappers to another species or group that doesn't consider humanity to be a minor annoyance, but you still have a lame premise of Bender being a mean cowbot instead of a mean robot.  I can't even think of a reasonably good way to turn this story around.  You could turn it into a "hero versus a horde of villains" story, but those tend to be formulaic and predictable.  On the other hand, if you make Fry the hero, you could call it "Fry Hard" or "Fry Hard: With a Bend-gence."

Ok, sorry if this is annoying to anyone. But the thread that me and Gorky started (read above) is open and yes we are in the process of the story. Venus is the only one who has read it so far. Jubei was in that thread but, that was just spam. Anyway, if you go to the bottom of the 1st page, I posted in small font the whole story so far. Or you can just read the thread. Either way, take it into consideration at least. Gorky and I would be quiet greatful.

I have some fantastic news, folks!  I just sent my story "Forrest Dumps" to Futurama Madhouse.  Hopefully it will get posted when the Futurama Madhouse gets it's next update! 

So watch for it!  I've decided to write that one instead of The Road to Fanzipar.

Seriously though... you'd be lucky. Our fanfic uploading script isn't up and running yet, hence why there hasn't been a fanfic update at the site for a while now. I've already got a backlog of three fics to put up, and I know Graham has at least got a couple too.

And while I'm here, I might as well announce I've got another fic in the works. I'm having a bit of trouble writing "A Past With No Future" at the mo', so I'll do what I did when I had trouble with UoM a while ago: write a quick, one-off comedy fic. I've got no definite title yet (NNYPD Blue is a possibility...) but it's basically about Bender becoming a cop along with Smitty and URL. It was originally going to be a subplot for another fic I had planned, but upon getting ideas it looks as though it's set to become its own story now (though it may have a subplot of its own). I'll spoil a couple of scenes and lines for you while I'm at it I suppose:

SMITTY: And if anybody yells "You'll never take me alive!" that's an automatic licence to kill.

BENDER: Man, that downtown target practice simulation was great! The screams from some of those pop-up targets sounded real!

SMITTY: Yeah. Part of the Ironic Punishment division to solve those overcrouding issues in the prisons.

BENDER: I could arrest the lot of you'se!
LEELA: For what?
BENDER: Where to start? How about *you* for flying an unwarranted and registered spacecraft with no insurance.
LEELA: I kept telling *you* to sort that out, but you wouldn't!
BENDER: (ignoring) And then there's Hermes, for having illegal substances on the premises!
HERMES: What?!
BENDER: That's right! You thought you could hide your stash, but I found those boxes of uranium in your office.
HERMES: They're not ours! We're supposed to deliver them this afternoon!
BENDER: And then the Professor Farnsworth, with his unregistered doomsday weapons.
FARNSWORTH: (snorts) Bah! The governments of Earth, Neptune and Pluto don't need excuses to have them! Why should I?! That's democracy for you! And Plutocracy, for that matter...
BENDER: And, of course, Fry.
FRY: What?
BENDER: Oh, don't act all innocent! You know very well it's illegal to live in this city without a career chip.
LEELA: Don't be stupid, Bender! Fry *does* have a career chip.
BENDER: Shows what you know. Didn't Fry tell you that last week an unseen, unknown, but handsome and clever, assailant removed it from him while he was sleeping to sell it to a homeless guy?
LEELA: You're not going to just suddenly turn us all in because you're a cop now, are you?
BENDER: Of course not. But I am going to ask for fifty bucks from each of you, 'cause I'm a *crooked* cop.

Smitty and Url did make a great team.  I had always wished that we had gotten to see more of them in the show.  Alas and a lack, I supose.  But now I see you've got some Marmaduke-solid ideas .  Great ideas there, Kif.  It looks like justice will finally be done...for us, not for any Futurama characters.  Depending on the storyline, consider the following titles suggested:

I have no news other than I abandoned my "Holy War" story after writing 80% of it and have plotted myself into a corner with the outline for another fic.  People didn't like it when certain throwaway characters were killed in my last story, I can't imagine people would like me killing off Fry.

Here's a fanfic coming attraction for 2006:

Sailing A-Weight:  Professor Farnsworth sends everyone on a treasure hunt to the planet Oceanview, which is 99% water.  The treasure is in an abandoned pirate ship that's the only sign of land there.  Unfortunately, evil hands have got to it first.  Also, Fry reveals a secret to Bender about his weight.  Hint: it's not being overweight. 


Watch for "Sailing A-Weight", coming in 2006!  Plus, my most anticipated "The Road to Fanzipar" will be coming out next year, too!

To Whoever Still Gives a Damn,

It has been many months (perhaps a few years) since I last updated my work in progress “The Revival of Project A.L.B.I.A.”  I wish that I could tell you, that, in that long period of time, I’ve been restlessly pushing myself to finish the script, working sleepless nights to get the last few chapters written and posted.

I wish I could tell you that, but I can’t.

For a while, I thought I was suffering from a protracted sort of writer’s block.  Every time I opened the next chapter to pick up where I’d left off, I became stuck within a few lines.  The story just didn’t seem to flow like I wanted it to.  At some point, it finally occurred to me that the whole story is unorganized and choppy.  The more I thought about it, the more I realized how unpleasant the previous chapters are.  There are so many horrible lines I wish I could take back, disastrous scenes I want to rewrite….

Probably the most frustrating of all these faults are the sub-plots that I tried to fit in, and that I’ve since realized are horrible out of place in this fanfic.  Don’t even get me started on the “other half” of the crossover: that was so poorly explained and thrown together that I’m embarrassed by the thought of it.  I have a strong suspicion that I left my readers more confused than they were coming into the story.

It took me a long time to realize what the problem was.  In truth, it’s a combination of things: mostly a lack of motivation coupled with limited time, uncooperative computers, and the “written-in-progress” status of the project.  I think my biggest problem, however, is that I kept forgetting who my target audience was.

There are two versions of this story: you’ve already read 3/4ths of the Futurama version, horribly dubbed The ‘Rama Trilogy.  The other story, the original story that this whole mess is derived from, is called 2012, and rather than focus on Fry, the crew, and their limited involvement, it revolved around Anthony, Rosa, Jitan, and various other 20th/21st century characters’ misadventures relating to Project A.L.B.I.A..  Obviously, it isn’t a Futurama fanfic in the traditional sense, and is geared towards the “other” fandom.

There are two problems with this set up: 1) I haven’t actually written 2012 yet, and 2) much of RoPA is supposed to explain events that supposedly happened in 2012.  When I wrote the first few chapters of RoPA, I did it with the loosely-constructed ideas of the other story in mind.  Hence the scattered story, the confusion, and the overall awfulness that was the third part of the Trilogy.

When I began The Fugitive, I told myself that I would never leave a story unfinished.  I don’t want to leave RoPA incomplete, but it’s clear now that I can’t finish it in this state.  In order for it to come out the way I want it to, the way it should, I need to write 2012 first to establish the details, then go back and rewrite RoPA (and perhaps BttP as well).

Until I actually get around to doing that, though, I’d like to put the whole storyline on continue the story’s hiatus while I work on other things.  They won’t necessarily be Futurama-related, but I hope some of them will be.  I won’t say I haven’t been thinking of alternate plots I’d like to explore, but I’m not sure if or when I’ll ever get around to writing them.

I’m truly sorry if I disappointed anyone.  It certainly wasn't my intention.
