Drawn Art Contest 1

Since we have already a scan art contest, here is a drawn art contest.
It shall be for any art that is not scan art.
A few scan-art effects like lightening may be allowed, but it shouldn't be too much in use.

The contest shall be like this:
- We'll have a group of wise art critics who find a topic the art shall be about.
- A price could be offered - for the winner.
- PEEL's mighty artists shall have a time like 1, 2 or 3 weeks for doing their art and submit it to the "art critics" / to post it.
- The "art critics" announce the winner.
- About the "art critics": They can not join the contest with own art!
- Alternative to the "art critics" who could have an poll as well.

Well, it's still just an idea, so critics are welcome.

That art-critics thing is a lot too difficult anyway for a regular contest.

Well, so why not to start the contest right now?

Contest - version 1 (easy): Draw a picture of some of the Futurama-Characters in Hippy-style, like you can see here (click!).

Contest version 2 (difficult): Draw a picture of some people of the Planet Express crew, basing on the lyrics below.

I have no idea what the other song is, though I like the sound of it. I may try both - or I may be a "critic" - I don't know which yet.

It's supposed to do so. After all your fellow PEELer and PEELettes shall have a look at your fascinating piece of art you are going to do.   

For free hosting of pictures "imageshack" seems to be quiet good, since nearly everyone is talking about it all the time.

Coilette, Zed: That song is basicly a Hippy-song, if you would like to say so.
... but since you just have lyrics it's more difficult to draw a picture about it, than to draw a picture about those Hippy-photograph.

Well, the above mentioned criteria/topics are for the 1st contest. The 2nd will have another topic.
Just like the "Scan Art Contest" ... which should be somewhere in the fan art section ... I guess.

Aah finaly I contest I could enter.

Now while I have no interest in the hippie movement what so ever I may be able to come up with something for the lyrics one. After all I can interprit them the way I want.

@Zed: This may also be a way of doing fan art for your fic (if I can execute my idea right).

Just so I am clear. I do all my art on the computer with my tablet so technically not hand drawn. This is alright, yes?

I think yes.
It's called "drawn art contest", not "hand drawn contest".
Point is that you have to create something new.
That's the important difference to scan(ed) art.

Well ... that sounds okay.
At least everyone should be able to see those pictures without waiting an hour (you know: 56 kb modem user for example).
It's up to you if you choose 800x600 or whatever finaly, at least it should just have an acceptable size (in kb).

Well, since it's not a wallpaper contest, it maybe shouldn't far more than 800 x 600.

Also, can the drawing we "post" be a monochromatic line art drawing, or does it have to be colored? And are we talking finished piece, or a sketch?

I thought of a price as something that would motivate people to contribute their art to the contest.
Seen this way "to be able to chose the next topic" is a price as well.
We should think about it.

It can be monochromatic or colored. Finished or sketch.
Draw whatever you think will have a chance to win.

If it's like a month or something, I might be in. At the moment I have a whole heap of college art on the go and stuff, but I'll see how things turn out...

Three or four weeks maybe? I guess that'll be enough time for everyone to draw something.
Let's say - four months.
We can change it anyway for the next contest to three or five months if needed/wished.

I did the first one, but i didnt really like how it turned out so Im probably going to redo it, i also tryed the lyric one, but i couldnt do it, but ill keep trying :}

Well I'm definitly throwing my hat into this. I chose the lyrical contest. Heres a preproduction sketch of what I'm going to be entering. It still has a long way to go, as it needs to be heavily cleaned.

I hope that by showing what I am doing, or by showing that someone is actively persuing this. It would possibly inspire people to enter, and get some life back into this contest. (but then again thats just me.. and I could/can be wrong)

Very impressive pic!  Nice soft inking style

I will definatly be drawing something but not until next week at the earliest as it's my final week. I think a lot of other people are busy with exams and finals too. Go for it, Daniela.

TLL, yeah I have work in the "Lets take a look at the gallery"??. I also have multiple sculptures floating around in the Fan Art section. I also have a portfolio site: www.maddoc3d.com

Nice work maddoc3d, I cannot wait to see the finished version. I have been working on the hippie (easy) one for the past 3 days now, no dount it will be my best work, so far. But no work for the next 3 days because I'm heading down to Dallas for the A-kon.    Also, Daniela, you should definetly enter, even though two contests in a row by you might get a little boring.   

Edit: Scratch the A-kno thing, day after tomarrow, not tommarow.

Point is that you have to create something new.

Well here you go. My interpretation of those lyrics, granted I twisted them so I could give this pic a duel purpose of also being a fan art of a certain Mr Hillards upcoming fan fiction.

I'm done, not sure if two submissions are allowed... started as one but it progressed to two when I realised the background wouldn't work with the first part. Her hand is squiffy in the second pic so I might edit it tomorrow
