I did a PlanetExpressman fanfic a while back.  PlanetExpressman Together, it was a parody of X2: X-men United.  However, I was accused of ripping off the movie.  I don't think I ripped off the movie. I wrote the fanfic for the purpose of parodying the movie, much like how Spaceballs parodied Star Wars or how Scary Movie parodied Scream.  I didn't write the story word for word just like the movie, and I was able to change a few things and add a few twists.

Then I was told that the people who did those parody movies had permission to do them.  That may be true, but they had to gain profit.  I on the other had am not getting any profit, if I was then I would ask for permission.  So is doing a fanfic that parodies a movie a rip-off?

I've done a fanfic called "The Fry-Trix" and no one accused me of ripping off "The Matrix: Reloaded" which is what the fic was based on. This is strange. Then again, the fic was not a parody.

In an answer to your question. Doing a parody is not exactly a rip off. Doing a fic which follows the movie with very close detail is a rip off(I didn't do that). You have to come up with some material to make it original. I haven't read the fic yet so I can't decide. Can you tell me where the fic is?

Here is where you can read it.  You guys be the judge, it is third of three stories I have on this link.  So, you'll have to either read the first two or just move your mouse down to read my third story.

Is my story a rip-off or a parody?  Many people have said it was a good funny clever story, but there was one person who said it was a rip-off and that is something I don't understand.  And I too had done a matrix parody, "Ironfinger: Reloaded" It can be read at that very same website.

The law tends to allow writers some freedom when it comes to parodies, as far as I'm aware unless you directly reference you don't need permisson.
Incidentally, anyone who thinks a parody is a rip-off has clearly missed the point.

Has anybody ever been accused of ripping off something in their fanfics? I still don't think I ripped off anything.

Antz was a rip-off of A Bug's Life. Dreamworks took the idea of a 'CG movie about bugs' from Pixar and ran with it without giving credit where due. Chinpokomon is a parody of Pokemon. It makes fun of various aspects of the anime and game, basically letting viewers know that it does so. Your work is clearly parody.

That is what I've been saying the whole time.  I don't know why I was accused of ripping off.
