So for my sociology class, we have to write a children's story. I thought, why not make it about Futurama. So that's what I did. It's not entirely about Futurama, but it has some elements taken from the show. I did change names and stuff. I also dumbed it down since it's supposed to be for 4-6 year olds. Anyway, I thought I'd post it here for some feedback.
Yancy and the Future
Yancy didn't like his life. He was made fun of by his friends and ignored by his family. His best friend was his dog Sam. Then one day Yancy accidentally traveled 1000 years into the future. At first he was surprised at how different it was. Flying cars, aliens, and spaceships were everywhere. Soon he met a robot who became his friend. The robot's name was Welder, and he welded things for a living. They became the best of friends.
After some time passed and Yancy got used to the future, he and Welder decided to get a job. After searching long and hard, they decided to become delivery boys for an outer space delivery service. They got to visit many planets millions of miles from earth. He also made new friends, like an alien lobster and a one-eyed woman. They had a ton of fun and really enjoyed their new job.
Then, Yancy started getting sad. He couldn't stop thinking about Sam, his dog from the past. He really missed Sam and wished he could go back and see him. But then he thought about Welder. Welder was also his best friend. When Yancy discovered a way he could go back in time, he didn't know what to do. Should he go back so he could play with Sam or stay in the future so he could have fun with Welder? He was so confused. Meanwhile his work still continued. Then, he went on a mission that allowed him to make up his mind. He went to a planet called Morbo. He was supposed to deliver a package to the king of that planet. When he got there, he was amazed at how peaceful and happy the people were. He thought that since they had a king, they must live hard lives. But they really enjoyed their lives. It didn’t matter that they had a king. When he got back from the mission he realized that, although he missed Sam, he really liked living in the future. He had friends, and had a job that he really liked.
He realized that it didn’t matter who his friends were, or whether he was living in the future or the past, as long as he enjoyed life. And he truly did enjoy life. So he decided to stay in the future with his alien and robot friends, since that made him happy.
