It's all so good!

Heres my first little foray into scannage:

Done by tracing a DVD freeze frame onto a clear sheet o' plastic, scanning in and tracing over again with the bezier tool in PSP...

That looks great Stuart B  :)

Here's a hand drawing I did of Fry- It's not very good but it's a start...

That's a novel way of doing it, Stuart B.  Looks solid.  Zoidberg's eyes should be light blue, though. [/nitpick]

Zoidyzoid - although your picture of Fry may not be perfect, you have definately done some things on it very well. Keep trying and you may have something really really good. By the way, I love the Zoidberg drawing, Stuart B!

Here's another new scan I just finished, this one's from a scene in Jurrasic Bark I'm sure we all remember.   :p

By the way, if anyone's interested - the rocks in the backround are from a foreground sprite from an unused level Sonic 2, way back when the Sega Genesis was out. Of course, I've blended the rocks in with semitransparent browns and blacks to darken their shade.

Heres another one, original grab from Fear of a Bot Planet, and the first appearence of Bender's magician outfit:

Luckily I found a font thats sort-of reminiscent of Benders autograph in Godfellas too!

NB Nice work guys! Beamer: That's a memory jogger and no mistake!

Nice...a question - I take it that band of blue down the right hand side is to do with the scanner? (That was a pretty stupid question, but hey)...

That's cool...I've never thought of that. I guess the only problem is it might damage my LCD screen...

Stick it in an editor and GrayScale it, that way it won't be blue and will be less noticable.

Then repost the image with the updated version...

Looks great, Bender-1729. Nice idea using Amy and Kif in the left corner, most would probably have used Leela and Fry. Fantastic drawing.

One question: why Scruffy?

Good luck in the contest.

Xmpel: Ok, here we go:

Make the picture bigger to begin with and resize smaller when done coloring... you will get nicer dithering as well as making large thick lines thinner.  Make sure the lines are more curved.  It looks like you made many short lines in an attempt to make it smoother, but you might be better off making longer lines more curved (I assume you are using vectors -- if not, do so).

 http://www.gotfuturama.com/Information/Articles/ScanTutorial/

You can use vectors in flash, photoshop, paint shop pro, and illustrator, but I am sure many other programs allow it.

As an aside, the lines aren't vectors; the vectors, which are invisible, are coming off of the point and the program calculates how much the vector warps the line.  It takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it you can do a scan relatively quickly that is smooth and appears more true to the show.

Oh and vectors are used in math to show direction and magnitude (think of an arrow off a point; the length of the arrow shows the magnitude, and you can do all sorts of nifty tricks with that).

Great pics everyone. I especially like the Road Trip one, great drawing   :)
Oh, and brilliant as usual Paul  ;)

Two more general ones from me.
First is the layout of my Zedoljan Grand Prix track. Not actually the Zedoljan International Racetrack, which is home to the San Fredlando Grand Prix, this is a street track in downtown Zendivostok, which is home of the actual Zedoljan Grand Prix - Is that clear enough for you?   :p

Second is a pic inspired by watching too much "GLADIATOR" just recently.   :)

Awesome picture, Doug. Great colors, great action-packed atmosphere, great... just great. I love the look of a splitsecond frozen in time.

Not to mention the cute expression on Leela's face ( ;)) and the sexy outfits.

Nefnar: Just a freebie version of Paint Shop Pro 5 I got on a coverdisc ages ago..

Though I tend to do everything at obscenely high res so all the tiny mistakes I inevitably make are smoothed out when I resample it down (case in point, the portrait of Fry was originally 3123x4797!)
