Futuropoly Revisited

As you may or may not recall, about half a year ago I tried my hand at creating a Futurama version of Monopoly. Not only one that would look good, but that you could physically play with, by downloading and printing. It would be full colour, original art, redone cards, cash, the whole nine yards. I was almost done before and then found out that all the cards I made were to small and had to be completely redone. I then gave up on the idea. However, I found all the stuff I did previous, and I know more now then I did then. Using what I had, and lots of new stuff (including new eps) I'm going to try again. This time, making sure it works right. I do however want to know what you think. Its easier and more enjoyable to get input from people rather than go at it alone. So.

First and formost: the board is done. I don't need suggestions for property, its finished.

Money. I've got a general template. I'll show you the look of one soon. Its going to be all heads in jars for the people on them. The blanks are up for debate, the others I definately want:

It does NOT have to be presidents, as you can see with Matt being the $1.

The Chance and Community Chest are now: What If? And Delivery. All cards MUST be in the form of either: What if... blank... so you have to blank. For example:

What if? You were impulsive enough to stage a daring daylight robbery on elephant back? Collect $200.

Or Delivery:

Make an intergalactal delivery. Proceed to SOUTH STREET SPACEPORT (*a property I made) to refuel.

So I need ideas for those.

Lastly, I need a replacement for Hotels and Houses. Something good.

Nice to see that the concept didn't die.

The only other Head in Jar that I that I can think of that should be in the game would be David X. Cohen's head (probably as $5).

Also could you please repost the images of the game board and other designs for stuff.

The delivery and what if cards are real SOB's. If you want them to look snazzy, you have to make sure each individual one has a nice look to them. Which means scanning a new image for every card. And theres about 32 cards or more total. Probably about 40 when I finish. And I have to test them to make sure they print well.

I missed this project first time, and I'd just like to say that you should go and get a job at Hasbro or whoever is making Monopoly these days. These designs are Really good!

My suggestions:

Change the Robot Hell squares in each corner from red to another colour, they stand out too much.


What if? You were stupid enough to drink 30 cans of slurm in an hour? Pay $120 for emergency treatment.

What if? A giant 60 foot robot went on a rampage in your neighbourhood? Pay building repairs:
For each "house"   $40
For each "hotel"   $100

Ok, heres what I've just changed.
-Fixed the spelling error on dc#4 (thx Nix)
-Changed the colour of the GO TO hell square to white, kept the other side red and white, which is traditional monopoly colour styling.
-Changed the framegrab used for the Deliveries space. Now its the ship being attacked by the space octopus from A BBof Ice-katraz. It had a smaller fox logo that I was able to conceal. The other one had a weird multicoloured space effect too hard to match.

That addresses all errors or glitches.

Before the release, more AL1 will be added. I like AL1 the best because it can be funny and not a pain to translate. In case you were wondering, the cash AL1 reads "E HATEUS RUPERTUM" (We hate Rupert (Murdoch)). I'll let you figure out the board.

And thanks a lot Kazzahdrane. I have some figured out, but I'll take the best of those suggested and the ones I have.

Also, I think you should change the Go To Hell square so it says "Go straight to Hell. That way it's a quote from the preacherbot too

House/hotels? Hmm, something delivery related like letters, boxes, packages, etc. Then treat the deed as a franchise contract to deliver stuff to that exact location.

Example: if you land on "Robot Arms Apartments" and it has 3 letters on it, you're billed for shipping 3 letters to that address. Payable to the one who has the franchise to deliver stuff there (ie. has the deed).

Did that make sense? I hope so.

We don't use hats, dogs or horsemen in our Monopoly. If you mean the moving pieces, we only have cars.

I think thats monopoly junior. However, I like the letters and boxes idea. Very neat. And it ties in with the property.

The pieces require a tad bit of skill on your part, but so does the whole board. You print them out, cut it out, then fold them the way directed. I'll test them to make sure first, but it should be ok.

Another problem that plagued me was dividing up the board into printable sections. Its a bitch and a half to do.

My suggestion towards the card would be to take the original Monopoly cards and Futuramize them.

Yeah, I was going to do that, to make sure they have a good balance of good and bad, and so on. But then I said screw it and did it this way.

The Delivery cards, by sheer luck, are exactly even. 9 good, 9 bad, 2 neutral ones.

I hope to have something similar with the What if, probably more neutral ones. (Those are like: Proceed to blank, go back 3, etc.)

I'm working on the What if's. I have 6 done, and with the suggestions and what I had before, I'll have a good set. I'll edit this message to add the new cards when I finish 10 or so.

Woo Hoo!! Really nice to see lots of my suggestions being turned into cards, thanks Chump. That What If picture of Zapp cracks me up, and the Slurm logo looks good in blue. All the cards are really nice!

Yeah. I liked that Zapp one a lot. Its the perfect picture too. Disgusting, but leaves a little (no pun intended) to the imagination.

Yes Nix, I do have Get out of hell free cards. One is delivering the keys and you make a duplicate, the other is What if? You took fiddle lessons. 

A mere 10 to go now.
