This will impress no one. It's not meant to; it's more an expression of astonishment on my part.

I haven't drawn anything in years, but when I did I would draw in pencil, scan to my PC, line art on one program, colour and shade on another. I tried to draw directly on PC, but the results were shocking, I couldn't get the hang of it at all.

I recently downloaded a free graphics program. To test out its vector capability, I sketched a quick Leela.

Holy. Crap.

20 seconds to sketch, and I kid you not, 5 minutes to tidy it up; and it only took that long because I was learning to use the program. I admit the result is very rough, but in the circumstances it's remarkable. Making corrections to a drawing is now completely effortless. If I'd had this 10 or even 5 years ago...! Damn bro, I was born too early...

I've had terrible luck with vector drawing in GIMP, but Freako did at least one entire comic with it, and it came out great.  Maybe it's more of an innate art thing rather than a tool thing, I'm guessing...

Every time I use it, it takes like an hour and a half to make something shit decent. Maybe it has gotten better, or maybe there are better techniques I'm unaware of. The tools in Flash are still the most intuitive I've used; If only somebody could mak a program that keeps those and drops the project creation framework shit.

I'm a total beginner, but for my purpose (basic lining) I found drawing several short lines, each using only 2 or 3 nodes to adjust the curvature, was far more time efficient than drawing a few long lines and then having to use many nodes to adjust the curves. Your project might have different needs, though.

That's cool. Flash doesn't use 'nodes' per se, you can grab a line you made at any point and then bend it in an intuitive manner. Maybe I'll play with inkscape more one day.

I'm too cheap for Photoshop, so these were all done in GIMP. I have very little patience or time to sit and draw for hours on end, so my stuff has become increasingly rushed and sloppy with time.
