Back when I was first given the generous gift of Photoshop...
I remember when a certain exceptional artist gave you that program... Marcus:
Most damningly, middle of next year, I'll be _30_. That's practically _dead_, and I've achieved nothing except burn up resources. Try being 49 with a heart condition and severe pain issues with spinal problems to feel "old". You gotta remember that I'm one of the few people who know about your setback in life a few years ago. You've done a remarkable job of recovering. Success isn't measure by how much money you make or how many cars you own. Ask tiger Woods how he feels about his "success" in the world. He marries a trophy bride for a better public image while he's whoring around with some skanks that even PEELers would dare touch. Now he's alone, playing golf at night so nobody can see him. Some of his friends fear he's cracking up and may do something to harm himself. Yeah, that's "success" for you. Bro, you've come a long ways from a few years ago. The job market has always been tight where you live, it's even worse with the events of today. Some people measure their success by having a prestigious job, yet I've seen some of the most successful people jump off buildings or eat a bullet because their success drained them of any love for life. So, despite how you feel about yourself, I think you've fought and won a battle most people can't. To me, that's the epitome of success.

D'ah, cheers Ralph Them's such kind words, I'm feeling very english and awkwardly hunting about for my stuff upper lip But it's not a repeat of the depression, I promise, more upcoming-birthday-blues coupled with the festive melancholy of every year's end; economically I'm a couple steps up from ditch-digger, and socially I'm not actually living in a ditch any more, so I really shouldn't complain too hard! But a friend put it better: "...there are a lot of things I don't want to do, but I should be able to if I wanted to, dammit!
K: "Waaaaahhhh! They said I was too old to join a boy band!" FRIEND: "But you can't play an instrument or sing, and you once said that 'all boy bands are a bunch of sparkle-fairy shota-bois who prance around the stage whining non-threatening lyrics to spotty teeny-bopper emo chicks like castrati chickens'." K: "That isn't the POINT! They said I was too OLD!" (pouts)" Ah well; new year, new job applications; it would be nice to work in a place where I have to engage my brain occasionally. Then I could afford a nicer home. My current place is a hole. A condemned hole. For squatter hobbits. [/steal] [/self-indulgence] I pencil and go over with black ink by hand. For me, I got a much more organic result from doing the inking by hand. It's the little flaws and inconsistencies in the felt-tip lines that stop it from appearing too artificial, I guess. I agree; you can get so much more control of the tone, the 'flavour', for want of a better term, of a pic by lining by hand. It's more about convenience for me; it took me so long to line by pen and I had to make so many corrections on PC anyway, that the thoughtless precision of PC lining appealed. (And as I usually do groening/mcfarlane nude knock-offs, I don't need that much artistic depth ) Again though, a guy I know is trying out pc-lining after years of lining by hand, and he's finding it much easier but reckons the results are a bit artificial and soulless. It's a compromise; mind you, Freak's pics don't seem to suffer from this, but then I bet he's using graphics programs written this side of the millenium...

Hey, you aren't alone. All I can do is use the paintbucket tool. All the layers and filters and stuff is just gobbledegook to me.

Please forgive the double post... I've had some time to paint again and managed to finish something I'd had an idea for a while ago. It occurred to me that, when arranged in the way I did below, the villains of Buffy the Vampire Slayer would have notable symmetry across the seasons. I'm not sure how well my rather cartoony style turned out on this piece, but I am at least proud of the idea and this should make a nice gift for a Buffy-loving friend.

Thanks...and I'll take that "hah...heh" as a compliment! At least you can tell who the characters are (I think). And yes, that's exactly what Faith is doing; Adam's also stabbing it with his wrist skewer, but it's a bit harder to see (and less metaphorical).

Some time ago (whenever Relay For Life 2009 was) me and a friend came up with a hilarious idea for a children's movie involving a cupcake factory that all the children go to which then suddenly turns into some kind of twisted horror movie where the owner of the cupcake factory chops up the children and puts them into the cupcakes. The children that he doesn't kill he forces to mate with his mutant rabbits (like those rabbits from that book "The Rabbits" but with skin falling of and bloated eyeballs). The baby mutant rabbits that come out of the children claw their way out rather than being birthed. Anyways, the parents come to the cupcake factory looking for their lost children so Tom (the owner of the cupcake factory) invites the parents to come to a tea party where he cuts of their legs and forces them to play music for the other tea parties that he makes people come to... Where the hell was I going with this? Oh yes! At some point my friend drew a picture of the birth section referee (the rabbit babies have to fight each other to live) so I traced it on Illustrator and coloured it and it came out like this: Once he fell in love with one of the babies so he used that helicopter thing on his back to kill the baby that was trying to fight it. And some kind of mutant rabbit-pig thingy: I don't know what the hell that red smiling thing attached to it is. And one of the more "The Rabbits" looking rabbits: Oh god, I think I have problems... And the cupcake factory's Chef: And the Medical Team, comprised of: Percy: Amd Farry: Farry keeps his legs in a bag on his back.

I'm putting this is some of the main threads throughout PEEL so everybody sees, so if you've seen this before, still listen up! If you all didn't know, the PEELies are going on right now. Head down to PEELies forum to get into the action. Nominating is going on from now until the 22nd, so nominate! As you notice, there's a category for "Best Fanartist/fictionist". Yes, it's for you guys! So nom nom nom away!

It's nice to see that the "On-Topic" guys are being informed and allowed to be involved. It's not like most of the "Off-Topic" denizens are anything but kind and polite to the people who actually contribute to the show that this board is based on.

We specifically made the "Best Framegrab Captioner" and "Best Fanartist/fictionist" awards to make sure there were things for the on-topic guys. I wanted to make sure this year that everybody had a chance to contribute and win something.
