(By the way I’m new here with six or seven posts in the last few days so if I’m not supposed to use this forum for questions, go ahead and call me on it)

Anyway right now I’m working on two ideas. One that I’ve started writing and one that I’m just thinking about in my head. The first one I have almost given up on because it's an idea that I thought was cool at first but now my insecurities are getting the better of me and I’m afraid it’s just boring and generic.

The other I came up with when I saw a fan art that tried to depict some of the characters realistically. Leela had two eyes with a patch over one, bender looked smother and more like what you might think a real robot would look like, and Ziodberg looked scarier and more crab-like than ever.

At this I thought "what would futurama be like if it were more realistic in the characters, the story, and the society?"

One idea was to make the professor more worldly and more of a mentor and a teacher than a mad scientist. The mad scientist is what I love about him in a comedic sense but I wanted to think about what he would be like if he was a real person.

(By the way this idea isn't to replace Futurama or improve it but really more of a spinoff idea)

I’ll talk about more if this gets replies and people are interested but for now I think this post is long enough.

yeah i feel bad when people don't get replies to their fanfics but i don't have time to read them myself. im also afraid that theyll be so much better than mine that it would be pointless to continue.

Authors are their own worst critics.  My advice would be to draw up an outline of the story, and then write the first chapter.  Once you've written a few pages you'll be able to tell whether or not your idea is too boring or generic.  Don't be afraid to post what you end up with on PEEL.  No one has every been chased away by a mob wielding torches and pitchforks.  Well, not recently anyway.

I got close! Though I think they were just trying to be friendly.

But yeah, there's plenty of people around who'll be willing to tell you if your idea is good or not. Don't be afraid to try!

Also if you're afraid nobody will see it try sending it to TLZ or CGEF or something. It'll get seen there.

I presume you refer to this?

I once posted a 'fic here, and received a number of helpful comments.
And you can hardly see the scars now...

Well, thanks to everybody for the support and encouragement. Especially SpaceCase.
As far as the fanfics go, I think ill rewrite the first one and try to get a first chapter out and see how it goes.
I realize I did a really horrible job at pitching the second Idea but I had so much fun thinking about it that I think I’ll write up something for it for my own amusement if nothing else.  Depending on how it turns out I may or may not post it. (By the way that was the picture I saw. Although it’s still an awesome piece of work I thought I remembered Leela and Fry looking prettier)

You should go for it.  Go ahead and write it.  Sounds like a cool idea to me.
