Great work Marcus. I bet you had a good time drawing Nurse Leela's breasts in the pic that they not only defy gravity, they're large enough for Fry to find shelter from rain. BTW, Nurse Leela could take my temperature anytime. The color pic: I can hear the exasperated and defeated tone of voice as Leela mutters, "Oh, lord."

Nurse Leela - inspired by a true story (apparently) of one man and his toothache, his one moment of relief the biggitity of his dentist's boobs... I might redo that one! And yeah, it is totally OTT (actually found it quite hard to draw obviously distorted anatomy - you can see bits of it were cheated), but sometimes you need to mess around with a pic rather than do it all po-faced Glad folk quite liked idea of w.i.ps - I've never done so many different versions of a pic that didn't come out (this is just a few!). Last one is the best, but the proportions are all to hell, Amy's face is terrible, and the angle isn't easy to background. Other than that... Colour pic owes much to Archonix for the "effects" - gym wall's a projection, so it shines off Fry's heads when he gets too close, the light shines off Amy as she's oily, etc. Where it doesn't work, it's my inexperience in doing stuff like that. @ pickles - do you... do you know where I can _get_ some memory foam...? I'd like about a 6 foot tube and some carving instructions...

People, I can say this: Marcus was one of the first Futurama artist that I met. He's his own worst enemy and harshest critic - a lot of the stuff he claims to be worthless or sub-par is actually very ingenuous, fresh and original. So, to you, my good friend, thanks for sharing. Even if these pics don't go any further, you've made my day by posting them for the rest of us to see. But Nurse Leela, Over The Top isn't the word! As you can tell, I love them, I mean, it (the pic).

fordmustang - oh, how i do admire your nerve to jump right into backgrounds. cheers to you.. i do so hate the things. and fry looks tubby! yay! also, thanks for the raving lovely compliment. ralph - ahh.. thanks for checking my gallery out. though lately, my da page looks a bit shabby, it seems to me.. however, i just finished painting something that, even in MY critical opinion, totally does not suck. i'm not going to post it here, but you can have a look if you're so inclined.. http://capsize-beautiful.deviantart.com/art/penguin-82495323

Hello, Ralph Snart. I have a great respect for your opinions, so thank you very much for your advice. It is a great honor coming from you. I appreciate it a lot. I hope the artists you mention do give me some advice. I got bad grades in art class in school so I gave up on art as a major- though one of my gripes in junior high school art classes is that my colleagues who used tracing paper on Disney coloring books got A's and when I drew from the nature and imagination I got D's and lower so that killed my wish to go further. I just have concluded that I have no real skill I just draw for fun... I am in awe of the people on this site who can duplicate the Matt Groening drawings because I cannot do it! All hail to those of you who can! I really, really want (MADLY DESIRE) to do on-line comics (but not for profit but for therapy and sharing my travel experiences) and to color with computer technology (though I love color pencils and water colors) but I do not know where to begin. I am crippled (???) by being a southpaw with a MAC laptop with no mouse function and not a lot of experience. I have to get some contraption that will let me e-color with a mouse and be able to use my left hand, hence why I use my pencils now. I keep thinking that being left handed will hurt me since the graphics functions I use at work require me to draw and color with my right hand, which is not my natural hand. I also have a firm vow that I only want to use my personal computer for my art, and never my work computer which is another reason I use the pencils- plus I still secretly want to honor the old artist methods- If I could combine pencils and watercolors with computer art I would be a very happy middle-aged lady. And @ Sickpickles... thanks for your divine reply. Your artwork is just heavenly so that you could take the time to say something nice about my stuff is a really nice treat! Thank you! I want to be you when I grow up! Yup, backgrounds are my weakness... I think it comes from my career as a travel package planner and my training as an ecotourism planner. We are trained to think always of the culture and background of all places we sell. It is a big reason why I love Futurama. The background artists who draw places like TriSol and the Cyclops Planet and the Godfellas Hubble telescope images and the fantasy planets in "The Sting" are amazing people. They make the worlds come alive for me. The artists did not have to get that detailed, but they chose to do so, so I love them for that. And yes, Fry is chunky with a broken nose. You can't deny that. But that does by no means say he is a weak guy. I LOVE it in Futurama that he does prove how strong he is in spite of what people think based on his physical appearance. "Godfellas" is a great example of that. I love that quote about hoping even more when people say things are hopeless...

You can similate color pencils and watercolors with certain programs if you have an eye on how the texture should look in those mediums. As for the south paw type thing... admittedly I don't art very often, but I have learned to draw on computers using my right hand... I sometimes switch and use my left hand with the right handed mouse too. I find it's a little easier to use the weak hand with computers because I can always erase the mistake and try again... usually if I'm working on a piece or a project, I'll spend hours at a time and be zoned out enough that I don't notice which hand I'm using anyways... it's fairly relaxing. FordMustang, your style is more original than just duplicating the characters in the Groening style (not that there's anything wrong with that either); I wouldn't be too disappointed that you can't freehand out that particular style though. You also seem to have a good eye for scenery and an overall picture. That makes things seem much more complete. I also like the traditional style of the medium. Kudos.

@ Ford Mustang: I know nothing about Macs, but can your remap the functions of the mouse? My wife is a lefty (hand-wise, not politically) and I remapped her mouse to work with her, however her computer is a E-Machines PC. Thanks for the compliments - call me the Patron Saint of On-Topic if you desire. As for drawing the Groening style - I often find other styles more pleasing to my eye. Coldangel's for example, is a form I find very easy on my eyes.

One minor thing and that is the window. Parts of the sign appear to be infront of Fry's hair (like his first spike) and the another part seems to be behind (his second spike). Cheers man! And good to see you again Sign - Arrgh, I see what you say... yeah, the idea was the wall/window are just being projected, so you'd see it on Fry. It's just a copy of the window, paste as new layer, faded, and _raised_ so that you see the windowsill/part of writing on Fry. But I raised it too much, so I missed the top of Fry's second hair spike, which makes it look a bit weird... Ah well, I'll know for next time! Do like the WIP's, nice to see the thought processes going on. As for the nurse pic, I am curious if some inspiratoon was not taken from another artist (not going to say the site or the artist's name as there a underage people present so let's just say The F**R) TF - damaging calm on your intertubes... I see what you mean, but actually I was thinking of Nev's work (remember him?) when I drew it; TF's style is a bit too removed from groeningism to easily work it into my pics, but Nev's a nice fit. Nice as a change of pace. @ El - very kind of you to say, thanks Was a constant balancing act between trying to get some _movement_ into the drawing, at a drawable angle, and being able to suggest emotions/thought processes; last pic is the best mixture (and gave the opportunity for designing gym gear for Amy!). I think it's a bit too far off-course to correct, but _highly_ chuffed you think it's at least salvagable!
