I really have no idea what else to call them.
But I like them.

Malfunctioning Eddie from Insane in the Mainframe.

The Planet Express clue on the floating Volkswagen Bus from Bendin' in the Wind.

You provide the screenshot, I'll do one for you if you'd like.

Call 'em "scans".

Pretty good, and "scans" is what we call those cutouts here.

These are really nice Cutouts, good work there. However, I feel the need to correct Professor Zoidy and the RobotDevilRox. These are not scans, but cutouts like you already said.

Scans would be if you not only cut out the picture and draw the black outline around it, but also "redraw" the whole picture, by tracing the lines and filling it with colours again. This way you get even better and cleaner results and you can resize them to something larger without them looking too shabby.

Welcome to PEEL, enjoy your stay.  :)

To counter fryfan: Oh well, some people do scans that are saved as a lousy file like JPG and look the same as a cutout. Not to say they are lousy jobs....

I have to counter you again Professor Zoidy. While I do agree that some people just save them in a lousy jpg compression and that makes them look as if they are just normal cutouts, Volksdragon said himself that these pictures he made are nothing but cutouts. Also you can see that the jpeg artifacts on his pictures are exactly the same as they are on the original frame grabs on CGEF. Volksdragon himself used a pretty good compression.

However, the term scan was defined as what I stated in my post above. Not by me, neither by you, but by some other "older" members of this community. Cutouts are not included in the terms scan.  ;)

btw. Don't take me wrong. About 2 and a half years ago I was thinking the exact same way as you.

No offense taken, good sir. To me, any sort of picture that's edited to improve the quality, or line thickness, which makes it  easier to see, therefore easier to see, hence calling it a "scan". Of course, sinse me terms are so loose.. this mgiht be why I think of them as such.
