Hey, thanks heaps, I'm sure I will. In the past the only TV forums I've really gotten into have been X-Files ones, but my recent purchase of the Futurama complete series boxset has rekindled my old obsession with this show.

Okay, here's one I just quickly threw together now. It's how I imagine the three principle characters would look in ten years. Bender has traded his old arms for some heavy-duty industrial models and his class has been redesignated to 'crusher'. The scar on Fry's face is a result of Bender getting used to the new limbs. His right arm was lost when Zoidberg tried to give him a vaccination shot - it's now been replaced with a cybernetic one that's kind of like a swiss army arm that can unfold with all kinds of tools and weapons. He's taken to wearing a long coat and now smokes. Leela has changed her hairstyle and gotten a little tattoo of a one-eyed devil.

Bender meets Fox Mulder from The X Files. No real point to it, I'm just a big X-Files fan...

Haha, thanks! Fry's trendy coat is based on a few of my own actually. I'll throw a few more into the mix over the next week or two.

Haha, all completely OOT and all totally awesome! I love bender's arms in your first pic. And Leela is mighty purdy too. Welcome to PEEL! No such thing as too many artists here, and if you keep drawing like this you'll put us all to shame!

That's a very interesting point, and I am glad you asked. The first and formost reason would probably be that he is the 'hero', regardless of all failings, and as a hero there are certain pre-set societal standards that are programmed into us at a subconscious level by thousands of years worth of myth and legend. The hero is strong and noble and looks better than a dog's breakfast. This is difficult to avoid without a conscious effort, and I never make any conscious effort for anyone dagnammit. The second reason is, I think, that he's not really that bad. I'm a straight male so I'm not much of a judge, but despite being a bit pasty and stooped there wasn't really that much wrong with Fry's appearence... it was more the fact that he was an unintelligent loser with poor personal hygiene and no motivation. I did try to make him a bit scruffy looking to reflect that. His clothes are wrinkled and he has patchy stubble... and I retained his crooked nose. But I like the guy too much to make him look ugly. He's a loser and all, sure, but he's still a cool guy. Actually, as with a lot of my male anime-style characters, that take on Fry actually looks quite a bit like me... which might say a lot about my own subconscious yearning for heroism. ...I'll shut up now.

Eeeeeew..... here's some nauseating romantic garbage from the same fool who brought you the above pictures. I disgust myself. To think, a man who spurns human relationships and is completely unmoved by the emotional plight of real flesh and blood humans, can be touched by the romance of a pair of cartoon characters. Bah! Anyway... here it is. The pencil grade was wrong so it's a bit light... and Fry's fingers look stupid. ...What ho? 'Stupid fingers'? Bwahaha!

As for your art it's very nice. Yes, hands (and feet) can be difficult to draw. The pencil grad looks fine to me. Then again, I'm a hack when it comes to drawing so what do I know about it!?
Thanks for the pointers. That last pic I was drawing the characters at a larger scale than I'm used to (close-up). Usually I'm more of a full-body illustrator, especially in that style. I like to challenge myself. Originally posted by Marcus: Speed, own style, can switch styles, spot-on scaling, proportions and shading...
I'm in awe!
Great set of pics. I'm not really a fan of anime, but that's a great take on Leela - her one eye makes fitting her nose in a real challange, but she looks great in your version! Much kudos. Anime's not for everyone. Even I am picky with it (I only enjoy high-quality realistic anime like Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion, as opposed to kiddy stuff like Dragonball and Pokemon). But you're damn right about Leela's nose. It took me ages to figure a knack of drawing her without making her look ugly. ************************** Behold:

Mmm... not sure how well I'd go at that. I'm not good at coloring... at all. I'd have to use a slightly different technique, possibly inking in place of shading, because lead pencils and color pencils don't go too well together in my experience. My art supplies aren't the best. Do you have any pointers on what materials are best for color work?

Well the only thing I can do on the computer is use the paintbucket tool in MS Paint to fill flat areas. My anime style is a bit too detailed for that and I don't have any fancy photoshop type programs... not that I would know how to use them even if I did. But paint... yes, I never thought of using paint... oddly. Strange how the mind works. In any case, I'll investigate options over the next few weeks. If I don't post any color works then it means I tried and they looked shite. BTW - I'm writing and illustrating a fanfic here: http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/4-001395-1/
