Fan Art - Advise

My first piece of fan art which I did in Dec an some may have seen it on TLZ

 and as you can see its musicly inspired (idea came from Queens Miracle album cover) ive done a couple more since, the problem I have is shadows or shading, it always seems to mess the picture up when i do it so up untill now i dont bother. I like Queens Miracle album cover, nice art! You know, I've done a fan art many years ago, but with Robot Santa, Bender and the Robot Devil morphed into each other. Kinda reminds me of that...
