Aren't you all such sweetie-pies. Anyway, in honor of Valentine's Day, I've decided to do a cute lil' scan of Leela from "Love and Rocket." Once again, it's not much, but I've been too lazy and into playing video games lately to care. Sure, V-Day isn't a real holiday, but eh, I go with it. And to all you nay-sayers out there, quit your bitching. It's not like you the first to oppose the day, and it's getting old. So... without further adieu...

No, but honestly, this is something I've been working on that I'd like to think resembles me a bit (or what I wish I looked like). I would greatly appreciate any critiques or suggestions, especially in the facial area, which is just not quite right.  Oh, and the picture is derived from this:

When you're scanning in Photoshop, what tool are you using to do the linework? If you're using Pen tool can you explain it to me? Pen tool makes my brain bleed.

how the hell do you work it? I have no control over it. All i can make are s shaped squiggles.

Heh, well that is the beauty of it.

I wanted to make you some more fun diagrams, but I realized that my perfectionism may cause that to take hours.  The reason I think you're getting all your squiggles is this. (I assumed you generally know how the tool works, like the point, click, drag part... but if not, let me know.)


(I did this in Fireworks, but it should make no difference)

I hope that answers at least part of your question.  Other than that... you can adjust curves.  When you make a new anchor, don't release the mouse.  Instead, drag up or down.  This adjusts the direction and depth of the curve.  Dragging to the left or right adjusts the skew of the curve.

Hmm. it's the curving thing that's tricky. But i think i kinda get the first part. Turns out i had the wrong setting on and it was doing this weird fill thing.

You're right about the face, which just looks like marge to me.
It probably just needs a more feminine shape, with a high cheekbone, eliptical eyes with long lashes etc..
A grab of Umbriel that shows off the style better than I can explain it.

The hair looks good though, and it would make a great avatar.

I don't think I'm capable of looking at that picture without chuckling. Unless I'm too busy chortling or guffawing. Which perplexed the other caffeine addicted nerds in the internet cafe where I first saw it. They gave me "What's so funny?" looks, and I was sad because I've never learned how to properly contort my face to provide a nonverbal "CARTOON BOOBS! That's what!" explanation.

Seriously, awesome picture. I know I'm repeating the mob by mentioning the hair, but it really does look great. I dig the necklace as well.

Thank you all so much, I really appreciate the feedback. I know it's been a while... I've started about 100 scans in the past 3 months, no exaggeration, but I wasn't happy with any of them. I threw this together tonight, and it's not done but I'd like your opinions on whether you think it's worth perfecting/shading or not.



Leela's expression conveys how I've been feeling as of late... dog day's of summer getting me down I guess.

Summertime and the scanart is groovy.
Lines are smashing and the shading is tops.
Scene choice is great and the scans are so good looking.

Wow...  Thank you all so much for responding... I'm not used to this much attention!  Seeing as how I received an overwhelming concensus, I will indeed shade it.  I also started a new scan last night that I'm really liking at the moment, so hopefully I'll have that up today or tomorrow.  I'll think about posting some of the ones I haven't finished.  Cheers, everyone!
