Leela channeling Janis Joplin.  Now that's artistic license, but in a good way.

Once again, it's nice to see you back on the board.

Thanks a lot, Freela, Writer unit32, PCC Fred, Bendersucksfry, Cap'n Skusting and Ralph Snart.  :)

You make me blush and wonder how I deserve all this compliments.
Then again, I might just suffer from what is known as "Artist Vision", which is amazingly good described by DMFA's artist Amber, as you can see here (click link):D

Seriously, thanks a lot.  :)

Fred and Ralph: Thanks.  :) It really feels good to be back at the forum.

Cap'n: Definitely. R. Crumb Leela could kick Devil Girl's ass. Angel Girl's ass, too. I mean, it is Leela after all and as we all know her she does not hesitate to kick anyone's ass ... or other body-parts (Fry: "Ow! My face!" ).  :D

I thought I might try this fan-fiction / shippy-fiction thing as well ...

Here's what I could think about, written down in the last few minutes.
Comments and critis are welcome. Just keep in mind that this is not my native language. Though, that shouldn't hold you from pointing out grammar and spelling errors.

If you like what I have written so far ... I think I could be motivated to try writing some more.

[ * insert title here * ]

Donny Oswald's clone was on stage, singing "Puppy Love" as a brick hit him in the head and send him down on the floor, unconscious. One could hear a cold mechanical and an humanoid laughter from somewhere in the audience.

[ * put some kind of intro music in here, preferable from The Animals * ]

Planet Express Ship/late morning

Bender laughed up amused. Hearing him, one could swear that all his complains about having no emotions are cheap lies, even though it was a cruel cold laughter the robot produced. Definitely an emotional reaction, after all.
"You know this will sooo never happen", commented the bending unit to what his best friend ... or rather pet? ... just told him.
Said pet looked up slightly grumpy to his mechanical pal. "I did happen!", Fry complained, angrily. "At least in this comic I drew ...", he added with less self confidence now.
Odd sounds from the background of the the spaceship's bridge made Fry and Bender turn around, just to look into Dr Zoidberg's happy, yet weird looking, face. "Oh, a new episode!", he yelled and in the same moment he managed to say this, grab the half-drawn comic out of Fry's hands and run away, before Bender was able to hurt him in some way or another.

Moments later Leela entered the Planet Express Ship's bridge. The ink on her white tank top and her obvious angry mood indicated that she must have met Dr. Zoidberg as well.
Leela snarled angrily at the young man and the man-bot. "Don't even think something stupid, for I am really not in the mood for ..."
Though she got interrupted by Fry, "Bender is mean!"
Leela resigningly sighed, sat down on the captain's chair and awaited the things to come.
"I just told you meatbag, that I don't think this will ever ..." Bender growled back.
"Proof it!", Fry yelled back.
Bender now turned to the one eyed captain of the space ship, "Would you wear a pink fairy costume?"
Leela looked at him completely surprised by the question. Then she crossed her arms in front of her chest, tried to have a really disappointed look on her face and finally answered with a clear "No!"
"That does not proof anything, mon signeur", Fry muttered more to himself.

Prove it...

Otherwise, pretty good.  It read great - English is tough with it's tenses and simularly spelled words with different meanings.

Yay! There are people who like my story.  :)
Therefore, it'll continue ...

Planet Express Building / Late Afternoon

It was Hermes Conrad, Planet Express Inc's official Bureaucrat, who saw Turanga Leela storming out of the delivery space ship, very angrily.
The Jamaican was slightly surprised by this sight, but only for exactly 23.94 %. He made sure to have calculated this very precisely.
A few moments later Fry, Bender and Dr Zoidberg left the spaceship down the stairway, slightly confused (3.89 %), but generally not caring and in Fry's and Bender's case friendly chatting. The doctor made no comment this or that way, his thoughts were away in other spheres.
This would be as well the only logical explanation why seconds later he stumbled down the stairway, tackling down the delivery boy and the ship's cook, just to run away then with a loud "Whoopwhoopwhooppwhoo..."

Planet Express Office

One could see that Leela was more than just disappointed in her crew, she was in a really bad mood. That kind of mood that shouts 'Leave me alone!' in your face.
Amy Wong though either way ignored this or simply did not take it seriously enough. Her luck was that the captain of Planet Express had no reason to be angry at her.
So it happened that Leela - sitting at the conference table, her head rested on her folded arms - and Amy, looking curiously at the cyclopian woman, sat there for a while, not saying a single word.
It was Leela then who bursted out, "... and he really had to try to find out if his head would fit through the gap between the metall bars. It took us several damn hours to get Fry out of this..."
Amy shrugged, knowing that her co-workers tend to do things like that. "So, business as usual?", she asked.
"I'm afraid so", Leela sighed. "Days like this, I wonder if it was a right decission not to stay on Amazonia..."
She got interrupted by a ringing sound from her wristband-computer. After an irritated grunt, she switched one of the computer's buttons and the screen next to it lightened up. A familiar face appeared.
"Welcome to the world of commu... cough, cough, cough... communication" shouted Terry's voice out of the computer.
Words were not able to describe the look on Leela's face, but you can imagine that if there was something she wanted to hear, then it was not the following.
"Where are ... cough ... you?", continued Terry, who obviously was not at best health. Even more so, he had a very bad cold.
"Where should I be? At work, obvious", came a snappy answer from Leela.
Terry's face could have been mistaken for a question mark right now. "You did not got the mail yet? ... cough ... Anyhow, we accidentally have defrosted samples of the Spanish Influenca and we are not able to work for at least this day. Could you ... cough, cough, cough ... please ..."
"If you are going to ask me to work at the Cryogenic Labs, my answer will be a clear...", Leela started to say, but got interrupted.
"Good news, every... I mean, only Leela", announced the cheerful voice of Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth. "The Cryogenic Labs just have called and guess what, you'll be working there today! What a fun! Since you've just had the Spanish Influenca last week when Fry accidentally broke that deep frozen virus samples, nothing can harm you. Nothing, unless ... Nothing! Now go!"
"Professor!", she yelled at him, but it happened to be Leela's fate to be interrupted again.
"Nothing! Also, they paid lots of money. Now go! Gogogo!"

Cryogenic Labs / Early Evening

Ipgee, Leela's former and today's boss at Cryogenic Labs, awaited her at her old bureau.
"Welcomeh back, Leelah. Now go to wohrk!", he welcommed her.
Turanga Leela resisted to give an angry remark to this. Instead of this, she pointed out something she just had noticed. "How does it come that you are not infected?"
Ipgee laughed amused, "Wehll, I keep my health protection and 'hat of my employees strictly divided. ... and by employees I mean you, too."
He laughed amused, just to stop suddenly and point at Leela with a serious look on his face. "Oh, and you're a-fire..."
Leela sighed resignatively. "Yes, I know that I am fired..."
"No. Your pony tail is a-fire. We just defrosted a professional pyromanic", came the quick reply.
Leela turned around, just to see a insanely giggling and shadowy person running away. She quickly took a bottle of table water from her bureau's desk and poured it over her hair, succesfully turning out the fire.
Ipgee left the bureau, laughing cynical, leaving behind a cyclopian woman - ready to kill the next person in view.

Thanks for all the nice compliments.  :)

jle 1993 : This next part of the story will have one rather directly "shippy" moment, but after this one, the focus will go back to describing the life of the Planet Express employees ... and how they'll react to the new character. You can especially look forward to him meeting Fry and the Professor.
But, I'll better not tell too much now ...

Cryogenic Labs / Late Evening

Murmuring, not a bit amused, Leela went through some paperwork left to do. This was when she noticed that there was still a name left on the list of people to be defrosted this day. Resignatively sighing, she put the list's page back into a folder and stood up, ready to look for said person.
Though, she surely was surprised as she noticed that the deep frozen person was not as usual lying in a cryogenic tube. Not even close to that.
In fact, Leela looked surprised at a strangely green shining block of ice. Somewhat transparent it gave away the look on a vaguely humanoid shape inside the block.
A little notepad attached to the block announced that one could soon await the frozen person to be de-frosted.
Leela took a chair, sat down on it and decided to wait for not more than 15 minutes. She probably would have done so, if it wouldn't have been for dullness and sleep winning over attention and alertness.

Leela did not knew what time it was when she awoke. After a moment of confusion though, she at least noticed that something had changed. Almost the entire ice block, radiating green light, had been vanished.
She had no idea of how that had happened, but her attention anyhow got not caught by the disappeared ice: It was the now fully visible, formerly frozen person.

The - not awoken yet - defrostie was a young man of probably 22 years age and somewhere around Leela's height. His skin was of pale colour, but his short cut brown hair, as much was visible of it under an helmet, was of a very intensive brown. A small nose, thick eyebrows and unusual long sideburns completed what Leela saw of his face. His eyes were still closed.
The clothes he wore were rather unusual ... somehow far too old in style.
A red tunic garnished with a white sash. Golden patterns adorning the shoulder pads, as well as the insignia - a regiment's insignia - on front of the black peaked helmet.
The highly polished shoes and the trousers with a red stripe along the length of the legs were both black.

If Leela would have put more attention into history, especially the 19th century - besides of inventions like the lightbulb - she would have recognised the uniform of a British Royal Marine from this era. ... but, she did not.
It wasn't even the she found much time to inspect the strange clothings closer, as the young man apruptly opened his eyes and looked at Leela in a way that included both, confused surprise and the look people have on their face when awaking after a long sleepless night and too less cafeine in the blood circulation.

Light grey eyes were looking at Leela and made her feel much too comfortable about this for a moment. Then, after almost being overvelmed by something she was not prepared for, she strictly sorted her thoughts and tried to look as serious as possible.
"Greetings", she started. "As you might know already, it's been a while since you've got frozen." A short, uncomfortable, pause happened. "Welcome to the 31st century."
The young man carefully stood up from the floor where meanwhile the last tiny pieces of green ice have been vanished. He looked around himself carefull, then at Leela.
It seemed like various thoughts and emotions would fight in his head and it took him a while to decide how to react.

Surely the woman in front of him had an unusual colour of hair and as well a rarely seen number of eyes - exactly one - and above all she wore clothes like a poor working class man, but he knew that he was not in the position to complain. Also he felt that - now that the time travel indeed did work! - he would have to get used to more than this, living in the future now.
"Madam", he started, bowed down slightly, softly took her hand and implied a kiss on it. He stood up again, not aware that he was still holding her hand and looked into her one - beautiful - eye. "I'm honoured to meet a pretty looking lady as you on this unplanned encounter."
Leela caught herself blushing and shy looking at the strange man, who was saying this wonderful words. Acting like this was so unlike her, but she felt that she deserved to enjoy this moment, especially after all what she went through earlier that day.
"Aw, you don't mean that", she said, even though she a voice from deep inside her heart whispered to her mind not to let pass this chance.
"I would't like to sound insisting, but truely I mean it. May decades and eras have changed the world, I still know a beauty when I see her."
This was the day and the moment when Garrett John Octavius Salisbury stepped into the life of Turanga Leela. None of them could know yet, what would await them.

Very nice, TLL.  I will sit back and enjoy this - you nailed Leela's anger and frustration with Fry perfectly.

Once agsin, it's great to hve you back in the fold.  Please go by and update your WikiPeelia entry - a legend such as you should have more than one line describing her.

Also, did you get my e-mail bout jle's Amy/Leela fic?  If you haven't read it yet, take a moment to do so - she's started it out pretty strong and I have a feeling that it'll be a great alternate ship-type fic (which are the types I like).

The more it means to me that you like that story I have posted here.

Ralph Snart : You make me blush all the time, what with "legend" and all.   :) ... and I am still a Liquid Emperor and not an Urban Legend yet ... But, thanks. I can be really a compliment-addicted at times. So, please continue with "legend" and all, good Sir. ^-^

Awww, thanks.  :) Though, I would not say it this way. I mean, I enjoy writing, I like to sketch and draw pictures and I'm very glad if my artworks makes people say all those nice compliments. Though, I am not - let's say - a FemJesse or TheVoices.

Not yet, ... but I'll continue working at it.  :D
Seriously, currently this all is more or less just a hobby of mine. I myself look up to people who are at art schools or who are even working in design or similar. Take FemJesse or Erin Lindsay for example.

I hope one of those days I'll find a job involving creativity, design or similar.

Oh, by the way: Update!

Late Night / Apartement 1 I

Leela sat on her bed, wearing a pink pyjama that she actually did not even like. Pink with as well pink heart pictures on it. She could not remember what made her buy this one. Probably it was a 3 for the price of 2 offer, along with two more decent looking pyjamas, she talked to herself in thoughts and almost believed it.
She was awake, could not sleep at all and that for a good reason. She felt like she had reached a turning point in her life. Things to be happening within the next time would have great influence on her future life.
For example today already, when she has met Garrett. He was so gentle ... so friendly ... He just had met her, did not even knew if she would be interested in him, and still said all this wonderful words. Just as if it was a given thing to him, acting gentle no matter how someone else would react to this.
But would it be right for her even to think about ... him?
It was not more than a week ago since ... that opera. The day when Fry poured out his heart for her, even on the risk of making himself a fool on the stage.
If there was one thing for sure, then that she did not knew how to react to this. She earlier already noticed that Fry must be feeling something for her, but succesfully avoided to confront herself with the thoughts how she should react if Fry should ever ... And now it happened.
She asked him, carefully, to give her some time to think about this all ... First he was rather surprised, but quickly understood that the Cyclopean woman did not try a cheap excuse this time to hold some distance between them.
At least she interpreted his nodding as an agreement to this.
Leela shaked her head in disbelieve. Why was she even worrying? There was nothing that could went wrong. Why did she even though about Garrett anymore?
She quickly introduced him to all worth knowing about the future - for example the career chips. She appointed a proper career for him - delivery boy, not really a surprise, given that he is from the past - and there was just a little to no chance of ever seeing him again. Not even to think of the unpossibility that he would end up working for Planet Express.
She cleared her thoughts and suddenly knew that now - with everything to worry about gone - she should not hesitate anymore and take a decision for life.
If Fry would ask her tomorrow, and she was pretty sure he would, she should know what to say. Otherwise she probably would end up lonely, 40 years old, dead and eaten up by wild owls, just like in a bad dream by Helen Fielding's head.
Minutes later she fell asleep, feeling comfortable with the thought that everything would turn out nice.

Planet Express Office / Early Morning

Fry instinctively knew that something was different this morning. He wondered what it was exactly. The delivery boy felt like it was right in front of his nose, even thogh he could not put his finger on it.
Slightly confused, he sat down on a chair at the meeting table and opened the can of Slurm Orange he brough to work as a breakfast. After he took a sip and then a few more of that soft drink, he noticed that he might greet the co-workers already sitting at the table.
"Mornin' ... Bender?", he brought out of his mouth. "You're here already?"
"Sure, meatbag. There is nothing suspicious about this ..." His chest door opened for a moment and revealed the sight on several bank notes, a blood encrusted arm and something shiny metallic, vaguelly knife-like.
As the ship's cook nticed the open chest, he quickly closed it. "... you did not saw this, right?"
"Saw what?", replied Fry who's attention simply did not last long enough.
"Nothin'. Continue what you were doin'", came the relaxed asnwer from his robotic pal.
Fry continued to greet everyone at the meeting. "Mornin', Hermes."
The Jamaican just nodded, looking up from a folder, full of documents.
"Mornin', Amy. How's you?"
That was too much distraction for Amy, who was just busy talking with someone at her mini cellphone - probably Kiff. Said phone slipped out of her hand and fell under the table. A surprisingly loud crashing noise and a small mushroom shaped cloud comming up from under the table indicated to total destruction of mini cell phone.
"Spluh", she commented it. "Great! Now I have to use a normal cell phone."
"Mornin', eh ...", continued Fry.
There was someone he never had seen before. The delivery boy was pretty sure about this.
"Scruffy, the janitor", came the obvious answer, heard at various ocasions already.
"Right", said Fry and pointed at the next one.
"You, I know you! You are ... what's-your-name?"
The other young man - obviously pretty much shy and very pale in his face - looked up surprised. "As much as I would welcome that, good chap and co-worker, but I do not recognise you. Neither should you know me yet, for I am new here." He meanwhile stood up, walked to Fry and reached out his hand for shaking Fry's hand. "My name is Garrett and I am very glad to meet you, dear co-worker."
That was the right sign for Hermes to look up from his documents again. "He's ja new co-delivery boy, Philip. Please introduce him to ja workin' place."
"Why me?", replied Fry with a wondering look on his face.
"Fo' starters, he is from da past, too. Secondly ..." Hermes got interrupted though.
"Alright!", came it from Fry. He made a short dance around the table, very much to Garrett's surprise. He looked at the young orange haired man like someone who happens to meet a mad gorilla on a tiny bicycle ... armed with a machine gun.
"... secondly, would ja let Bender take care for him?", finished Hermes his statement.
Fry took Garrett by his hand, and pulled him through the room - the young man barely being able to stay on his own two feet.
"Hey!", yelled Bender after them. "Tell pale guy that he ... lost ... his wallet! Also his money is worth nothing anymore!" Then he muttered, more to himself. "If it would have been Mars Dollar or even Venus Pound, ... but Sterling? Lousy 4th world money."

Planet Express Hangar

Meanwhile Turanga Leela was at the delivery ship, working at the elctronic systems of the stairway. actually that was not even close to be nessecarely, but she tried to distract herself till the moment Fry would come to work.
Which was usually too late.
Though the P.E. ship's captain did not care today.
She got surprised by the sound of hasty feet running through a hallway and then into the hangar.
Could it be, went a thought through Leela's head. Could it be Fry asking me ...
"Leela! Leela!", shouted the delivery boy's voice through the wide hangar hall and as the Cyclopean woman looked up she saw Fry's face above hers.
"Leela, I have to tell ... say ... you something so important ... I don't know how to say it ...", said Fry, obviously nervous - or confused?
"Oh, Fry", replied the purple haired woman. "This ... I have had time to think about it and ... I know what you are going to ask and I almost couldn't wait for it anymore."
"You do?" Fry's face definitely had similarity to a question mark now. Then it cleared up. "Ah, right, you were earlier at work and know already ..."
"Uhm ...?", was all what Leela could comment to this.
Fry helped her up from the lowest step of the stairway, then turned around and that was the moment when Leela realised that she was not alone with Fry right now.
Right next to them, smiling shy, was Garrett!
"Isn't this great, Leela! A new co-worker! From the past!" Fry was obviously happy about this.
Leela just nodded, in what could have been agreement, but one look into her eye would have shown her worrying about her life being turned upside down.

Hehe, I really like to write Garrett. His rather "ancient" vocabulary is fun to write.  :D ("Ancient" - from a 31st century point of view.)

By the way, here's a link to an article about Laternae Magicae (Magic Lanterns): (click here).
It is hard to believe that our ancestors used to spend lots of times looking at magic lanterns, but who knows what future generations will think about the television of our time?  :D

You can probably relate to jle better than I.  I'm old enough to be her father, but my heart was touched when she made an admission about her sexuality in Off-Topic.  She has found out at an early age how closed-minded some people can be if you're not 'normal'.  I feel that somebody's sexulity is their own business and that everybody has little kinks and fetishes that make them 'abnormal'.  I've kinda taken her under my wing to help her realize that there is nothing wrong with her, and it'd be a personal favor to me if you'd let her know that also.

I admit to being a heterosexual male, but my taste in women has made me disowned by some of my family.  My first wife was a German immigrant and my current wife is an Irish immigrant.  I have a fetish for very pale skinned women - especially if they're dressed in black leather.  I don't feel that makes me any stranger than you being The Lesbian Leela.

We 'abnormals' have to stick together!

Hehe, I really like to write Garrett. His rather "ancient" vocabulary is fun to write.   :D ("Ancient" - from a 31st century point of view.)

It's fun to read!  :p

Heh. I didn't know that. Most interesting. Not every day you learn new things about the past when reading a story about the future.  :D

Awwww, now look what you've gone and done, you're split my loyalties! I want Fry and Leela to get together but Garrett's really cute so he'd be good for Leela too...I'm confused.

Greta update though, I really enjoyed it!

No problem. I haven't read that posting in "off-topic" yet, but sure, I'd like to write some words. Will be an honour for me.

I agree with what you've writen here. There is nothing wrong with her, there is nothing wrong with you and there is nothing wrong with me. In fact, there is nothing wrong with anyone (besides of intolerance).

Sure, there are far too much intolerant people inhabiting this world and I've been through this for far too much years, being tortured by hurting words and in other ways, but ... if there is anything, I have learned, then it is not to give victories to those bullies.

You don't have to "just accept" that there are people that are mean to you and that you can't do anything about it. I did that for far too many years, ignoring what I wanted from life and just suffered. It took me too much time to get out of this hole of depressions later then.

So, there is nothing wrong with you. Only the intolerance of other people is.

We 'abnormals' have to stick together!
Very true!

Fry: "What's so wonderful about [...] being normal? The rest of us aren't normal and that's what makes us great."

Leela: "I'm proud to be different. And I just wished I'd realised that when I was her age."

(Quotes from "The Cyber House Rules".)

If you think so, then this is good, for I had the intention to give the story a thrilling part about the question whom will be together with whom at the end of the story. I just were wondering, if I'll be able to express this in writen words, properly.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story so far.  :)

You and Ralph are too good to me you know. Before when I first told my friends I'm bi-sexual they blocked me out I felt alone and like there was something wrong with me. People like you and Raplh helped me see I'm fine the way I am, and for that I'm gratful.

And the story is just...WOW. Its like I can't decide who I'd rather see Leela with...but whoever does get her better treat her right.

Awww ... Hey, I'm glad I could be helpful here.
I mean, I just have read that one posting in "off-topic" by you and I know how you must have felt like when your friends turned their backs to you.
Well, I'm glad you feel better now.  :)

Greetings everyone.

For all who wondered where I disappeared to within the last few weeks - I was ill at home with high fever. I'm not quiet sure how the proper English term for the illness is, but it was pretty bad: High fever for almost three weeks was only one of the bad things that happened to me ...

Anyhow, I feel a lot better now, though it could be better.

Well, I'm back online for today.

^-^

Welcome back.  I'm glad you're doing better health-wise.  As for the other bad things that happened to you, good luck in getting better from those.

I'm glad to see you around again.

Thanks a lot for all the nice, friendly and kind words from you.

It feels good to be here (again) with all you nice people.  :)

Meanwhile I know that the bad illness I've been through the last weeks is called Infectious Mononucleosis ... or something like this. Well, I'm not completely back to full health yet, but almost.

Give me a few days and I'll post new artworks in this thread again. Maybe even continue the fan story ... We shall see.

 :)

*does a happy dance of yayness*

An artwork is about to be posted very soon.

Are there any fans (or maybe even the author herself) of "Secrets of the Night" around here? For the picture will be about it.

Secrets of the Night,huh?
Yeah,I'm kinda a fan. It'll be cool to see a pic about it,even though it's only my secopnd favourite out of Jle's fics.A Push In The Right Direction was better in my opinion. But that's only because it had more action, and sci-fi-ish stuff.
Still,Secrets of the Night is cool.
Cant wait to see your pic.

Can't wait?

Well, in that case: Here it is.  :)
(It is not a particular event from the story, just showing the characters of it.)

I just hope the picture will work properly and be visable.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.  :)

Well, of course Fry is there with a certain refreshing soft drink not very far away. I mean, it wouldn't be Fry without Slurm around, would it be?  :D
