I voted for Family Guy.  I think that it just about has the edge over South Park, despite the fact that really they are two completely different shows.  I don't think that Family Guy is a Simpsons rip-off either.  Sure, it takes some inspiration from it but has plenty of fresh ideas of its own.

The thing that's annoying about South Park is that they always just come right out and say what their message is in the episode. Why can't they be subtle and let their stupid ass audience figure it out(like the audience I sit in)? Also, Family Guy is much more spontaneous. Humor that comes out of nowhere rings a bell with me.

south park. mainly because it stayed decent for so long, and the fact that Family Guy will probably run out of ideas soon, so all that would be left would be a bunch of half-assed jokes said by a guy whose chin looks like testicals

They're both pretty awful.

I guess that Family Guy is the lesser of two evils.

You really don't like either? I'm shocked and awed.

Family Guy caters to the world of people who enjoy nonstop laughter and fear things that are serious (like politics).

South Park caters to the world of people who enjoy just a bit of political insight mixed in with their humor.

How can you not be apart of either of these groups?
Anyway, I choose South Park. I may have chosen Family Guy if this poll took place when South Park was brand new and still in it's...err, slightly more immature days, but SP's recent seasons have more than made up for it.

I broke the tie. I went for Family Guy. South Park is great, but Family is the greatest. Did you guys see South Park the other night with Michael "Jefferson"? That was hilarious. "Blanket no, that's ignorant." Ha! That was great. I can't wait til Family Guy is back on the air as well.

Family Guy. It isn't my favorite, but I've seen more of it than I have South Park. But, really, comparing what I've seen of South Park and what I've seen of Family Guy, FG is better.

I will never be able to put into words how much I hate Family guy, it's is one of the most shallow shows I have EVER seen. I have never known a show to try and scrape cheap laughs out of EVERY episode the way Family Guy did, really...couldn't stand it.

Not a big fan of southpark either, but at least it doesn't kill my brain cells.

South Park for me, not contest.

I tried watching Family Guy when it was on fox and I tried reevaluating it when it was on CN.  I came to the same conclusion,  I think the show is shit.

Family Guy is where I turn for to laugh mindlessly, see some funny parodies and just go for general off-the-wall random humour. It really is a god damn funny show.

However - South Park has all of that, only it's a bit more adult, and there's hilarious subtle political sattirical humour mixed in with all of that. South Park gets a lot of crap for it's foul language, crappy animation & seemingly stupid plots, but when you take those things away - you get a very intelligent show that's not afraid to make points about things where no other show would dare tread. It's the juxtaposition of all of these things that makes it so great to watch.

In short, I really love both shows. However, South Park is my all-time favourite show, while Family guy is my third-favourite show (behind Futurama, of course). South Park gets my vote here, but there's still no love lost for Family Guy.

My vote goes to South Park as well. Let's face it, Family Guy is a very funny show, but South Park trumps it in almost every aspect (Family Guy having better sound).

Leelaholic, anytime that I make a statement that includes a value judgement, it should be understood that I am stating an opinion.  I don't have to explicitly say so.

For example, if I state that "Leelaholic is a twit." it should be understood that I mean "In my opinion, Leelaholic is a twit."  Many people may share this opinion, but it's still an opinion.

There are plenty of groups that I don't fit into.  You should have seen me in high school.

I do watch Family Guy sometimes, but the only reason I watch it is because it comes on after Futurama.  The only reason I ever watched it on Fox was because it came on after Futurama.  It can be mildly amusing at times, but I would never go out of my way to watch it.

I watched the first few episodes of South Park.  It was funny at first, but it got really old really fast.  Irreverence has it's place, but irreverence just for the sake of being irreverent bores me.

I also find both shows visually unappealing.  That's of lesser importance than content, but it does make a bad thing even worse.

FAMILY GUY!

It's so way better. But you can't go comparing the two, that's true.
I love Stewie and the dog.. they are absolute killers in the show. Stewie makes the show for me. I love how fast he moves around and the fantastic things he says, and his mother is just so calm and unresponding to it!
Ahhaha i love it!

I think it's cool!

They both have thier flaws really...

But while I enjoy both I'll say South Park.  Family Guy is maybe more consistant then South Park, but overall the latter is just a more redeemable show.  They try to do not only lots of wackiness and so forth, but also some topical satire with occasionally some pretty insightful stuff.  Family Guy is good at being wall to wall crazy gags, but at the end of the day that's all it is.  South Park sticks with you a little more.

This is really a no-contest for me, South Park is my second favourite Television show, and I've never really enjoyed watching Family Guy.
And I also derived my nickname from the South Park Movie, showing my love for South Park.   :)

Um, no. South Park is just unnecessarily crude. And Family Guy isn't mindless humour, no way! But I'm not going to get into the debate, even though there would be plenty of evidence there. My vote: Family Guy.

Family Guy.  I like South Park as well, but it's so in-your-face I have to be in the right mood to watch it.

Family Guy's subtler in it's approach, and that makes it more enjoyable to watch.

South park is way better than Family Guy. South park has much more intelegent broad reaching humour I think, family guy is just another show based on american family life with a bit of slapstick thrown in.

I mean, Family Guy is good, and I watch it, but I don't think it's in the same league as South Park

I was about to say something to Leelaholic on the order of "You should be stabbed in the face for saying my opinion", but you beat me to it.

Still though, I'm glad Family Guy's getting the better vote. And as a Rhode Islander, I can safely say any Rhode Island humor is pretty accurate. Not to mention South Park has gotten so much shittier over the years. The new episodes coming out now are a mere shadow of what the show used to be. I miss the immature humor. It's better than being way too serious and then sprinkling on a little comedy anyway. If you're going to make a comedic show, the humor should be the main focus.

You know, I thought the premise of this poll was oddly familiar last night, but didn't bother checking up on it.
Today I did and I found this:  http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/14-000919/

Now, here's a poll that compares South Park, Family Guy, and tons of other cartoons. This poll is invalid, says I.

South Park wins by seniority.. OR DOES IT?
Who else remembers the What A Cartoon show and the long lost Family Guy pilot therein? Very kid friendly plot, different names, slightly different animation, but when you get down to it: An idiot man and a well read dog. The man saves the dog from death at a pound. He's the only one who can understand what the dog is saying. The two go about buying furnishings for the dog's new room with hilarious consequences. Ordinarily I would brush it off as a coincidence that these two are essentially the same characters as Peter and Brian, but they have the same voice actor which leads me to believe differently. I believe this cartoon was produced ABOUT the same time South Park began its run on Comedy Central. If anyone has further details, do tell! I can't be the only one who remembers it.
EDIT: Okay, ACTOR. My bad ^^;

Incidently, Peter, Brian, Stewie, Quagmire, Tom Tucker, and surely a shitload others are all voiced by Seth MacFarlane. So it's the same voice ACTOR.
