Airplane was hilarious in my book and I enjoy all of the Scary Movies. I saw Mars Attacks! but couldn't find really any humor in it. The only thing that stuck out was whenever Pierce Brosnan had something important to say he'd puff his pipe. Found that somewhat funny but that movie was only ok.

I, like everyone else, liked when that guy was punching the aliens helmets, and the sound it made. But other than that, I'm with Spacedal11, it was only ok. A lot of big name stars were in it though.

I read a review and they gave it no stars. Apparently anyone with brain cells should avoid it at all costs.

The first Scary Movie was bad enough...dunno why they keep making those (including the spinoffs like Date Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, etc.).  They're just not clever in the slightest.

It doesn't matter if they sucked, the fact that they sucked and people (including me) still go and see them makes them brilliant.

Yeah, but Not Another Teen Movie had good female nudity, which can almost make a movie, sometimes (by my standards anyway).

I don't know why nudity would be so special though.  Have people not heard of google image search? (Yes, I'm sort of joking)

Wayne's World was a parody? I think Eggs will have something to say about you calling his teenage-autobiography a parody.

Anyway; I really liked National Lampoon: Loaded Weapon 1. It's one of a few films I can watch over & over, and still laugh my arse off.

Parody: Makes fun of a distinct style/ existing popular work for comic reasons
(This is Spinal Tap)

Satire: To pull the piss out of fellow humans/ human traits.
(Team America: World Police)

Comedy: Is funny. Jokes, humorous acting, etc often come into play. Satire and Parody can be part of this, but are not the entire film.
(Dodgeball. Waynes World.)

In defense of movies like Date Movie and the Scary Movies, they're really not made for critics/people looking for some clever writing or highbrow humor. They're supposed to be dumb. It's kinda the point. Criticizing these movies for being dumb is like criticizing a garden salad for having vegetables in it.

Did I enjoy them? Sure. Are they classic? Not by a long shot. Will I remember them in 5 years time? No way. However, they did do their job and gave me a couple of cheap laughs at the time they came out.

Now, as for my favourite parody movie... does Monty Python and the Holy Grail count as parody?

No, it's absurdism.
And with regard to Scary movie/ Date movie etc etc, they are still supposed to be funny. They are an example of a parody that fails because it isn't funny, where Spaceballs is an example that works really well.

I love spoof films, they're far more watchable and entertaining than "serious" film making. I haven't yet seen a parody I didn't like. Though The Big Bus pushed the limits a bit. I'm not sure if this counts, but Basketball was hilarious. It doesn't parady any particular film, but it was directed by David Zucker and parodies sports in general.

I saw Scary Moive 4 and it was hilarious.  I loved the cameo of James Earl Jones.  He parodies Mogran Freeman's narration from War of the Worlds.  It had some other crazy funny shit.

You know, with the level they've devolved too, someone really needs to parody parodies.

She's the Man could be considered a parody, since it makes fun of the same story of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, about a woman dressing up like a man to fool other men.  That basic comical plot of cross dressing became popular after that.

Shakespeare has been parodied for years.  10 Things I Hate About You parodies The Taming of the Shrew and The Lion King did the same with Hamlet.  Though I wouldn't consider them traditional parodies.

I just saw the trailer to Epic Movie, the newest parody movie.  it will parody Superman Returns, Pirates, Narnia and others.  They are also making a movie called, SUPERHERO! a parody of superhero movies.

I reckon there've been a few too many superhero parody movies.

My favourite genre parody film is 'Galaxy Quest', while my favourite parody film in general is Chaplin's 'The Great Dictator', which is a parody on Hitler.
