That's right as far as it goes, but Return to Lonesome Dove is a miniseires.  If we're not counting voice-overs and TV shows, it seems to me TV movies and minisereises should be out-of-bounds as well.

The thing about TV movies and miniseries is that they aren't as long as a regular TV series.  A regular TV series has been around for a long time and have so many episodes that it makes it difficult for a connection to be made, while a TV movie or miniseries is just a once, short thing. A mini series like Sci-Fi's Taken can be used since each episode is like a movie.  (Two hours each) However, if Taken was going to be made into a regular TV series, then I'd have to say, "it doesn't count". I'm sorry about this mishap, I'll try not to do it again and ask that everybody else do the same. I don't know, I won't enforce the rules as long as the actors aren't already connected and it isn't from a voiceover or from a regular TV show, like Friends or something.  If I notice people using Miniseries and TV movies alot then I think we should step in and say "don't use them."

Kinda long, but it gets the job done:

Michael J. Fox was in Casualties of War with Sean Penn
Sean Penn was in Fast Times At Ridgemont High with Nicholas Cage (credited as Nicholas Coppola)
Nicholas Cage was in Amos & Andrew with Samuel L. Jackson
Samuel L. Jackson was in xXx with Vin Diesel

I forget, are we including TV shows? In that case.

John Cusack was in High Fidelity with Jack Black,
Jack Black starred in the failed TV show Heat Vision and Jack with Owen Wilson,
Owen Wilson was in I Spy with Eddie Murphy.

edit -- crap. I looked to see if I was right, and technically it's possible to beat me, step-wise.

As long as evan makes a connection, he wins.  I said once the person who post the question comes back and posts something, the attempt to come up with a shorter connection is closed.  According to the rules, evan wins since he posted a possible connection, but you can list your connection for fun.

Too bad voiceovers don't count, but since evan's got it anyway:

Eddie Murphy was in Beverly Hills Cop with Judge Reinhold
Judge Reinhold was in The Santa Clause with Tim Allen
Tim Allen was in Toy Story 2 with Joan Cusack
Joan Cusack was in Grosse Pointe Blank with John Cusack

Ok, I was looking for movies only, so evan or boingo can go, it's up to them:

But I had:
Eddie Murphy -> Trading Places -> Dan Akroyd,
Dan Akroyed -> Grosse Pointe Blank -> John Cusack.

Sorry fazeshift, i didn't notice evan used a TV show.  I'll leave up to you to decide to do another question or have Evan go.

Evan, since you are new to this game here's the rules.

The actor has to be in the movie in order for it to count. No TV shows. If it is a small part or cameo, be specific. Oh and if somebody does get it other people can guess to try and create a smaller connection. If someone makes a connection with six movies, and someone else made a connection with five movies. The person with five would win, but if someone else gets three movies, he/she would win. But there will be some questions where you'll need to many movies, so hey try your best. However, once the person who posted the question returns to this topic, the chance of trying to have the shortest connection is closed. So I suggest those who do get to post the questions, visit this topic regularly so you don't have to count so many connections.

voice-overs don't count since you just hear the actors' voices and don't see them. So Norm McDonald as the voice of the dog from Dr. Dolittle wouldn't work.

And if the two actors chosen are already connected to a movie, and someone points that out, before the person who posted the two actors comes back, that someone automatically wins.

Ex: So if I said, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and someone just posts MIB, then that person would win, w/o having me saying so.

Well, Owen Wilson *was* in Heat Vision and Jack, not just doing a voice-over. And, if that doesn't work, here's a shorter one.

John Cusack was in The Thin Red Line with Nick Nolte,
Nick Nolte was in 48 Hours with Eddie Murphy.

Okay, new one up....connect Johnny Depp to Brad Pitt.

Troy has not come out yet, but since what you said is true, that counts as a connection.  However, try not to use movies that have not come out yet, because people will have mixed opinions.

hmm you suprised me, I saw only 2 combinations-
There was-
Michael J Fox in Back to the future 2 with Elijah Wood (very small role 1 line) who was in Lord of the Rings with Ian McKellen, who was in Xmen with Patrick Stewart, who in turn was with Cary Ewles in Men in Tights.

That or you could've gone the Christopher Lyod, William Shatner, Patrick Stewart link

You suprised me Nix, your go

That's actually better then what I had!

I had:

Bill Murray was in Stripes with John Candy
John Candy was in Planes, Trains & Automobiles with Steve Martin

Since I don't think anyone's going to top 1 connecting actor, I'm just going to proclaim it Pikka Bird's turn.

That rule angers me.  Very well...

Will Smith was in Men In Black II with Tommy Lee Jones
Tommy Lee Jones was in Men In Blackwith Lindo Fiorentino.

Nest time you're going to make an arbitrary rule, outlaw the whole film, not one specific connection.    :p
