is anyone here a fan of the british comedy show, The Young Ones?. I think it is really hilarious and I also loved some of the bands they had on there like Madness and The Damned.

A lot of PEELers are fans of The Young Ones.  There's catindisguise, ghoulishmoose, Nurdbot, Melllvar, and me, just to name a few.

Ah, The Young Ones. It's a very surreal, something like a little bastard of Monty Python. Alexi Sayle's contribuations are good as well.

My favourite episode is boring: Mainly because Madness guest sing in it.

I watched it wen it was repeated in the '90s but to be honest didn't see what all the fuss was about, it was OK but not great.

I have watched The Young Ones a few times, and found it hilarious! They need to show repeats, I've only seen a few episodes.

Indeed.

"Ahah!...you little RUNT! you do have a TV!"
"...it's a toaster".

Funny thing is, a toaster pops up a few minutes after that into the show.

Oh and: SPG!

The young ones is the best.  :D I don't see why they didn't come in the top ten British sitcoms. (I think it was rigged)

I love Rik's poems.  :D

[Rick] Oh, Cliff
Sometimes it must be difficult not to feel as if
You really are a Cliff
When fascists keep trying to push you over it
Are they the lemmings?
Or are you Cliff?
Or are you, Cliff?[/Rick]

Rik Mayall is so funny. A couple of days ago, I was flipping through channels and I came upon this movie called Merlin which started him. It was just so weird to see him in that movie. Also the movie wasn't too great, I thought he would make better acting choices.

oh speaking of The Young Ones, does anyone like Bottom?

I think it is not as good as The Young Ones but was a pretty good show.

Bottom is good but Rik Mayall's best role by far was Rick.   :D

Wow, I'm so glad someone started a thread on this classic show! I'd have to say that my fave episode is Bomb, just because of the input from Alexi Sayle at the end.

"There's no chance of using your toilet is there....?"

"No"

"I thought not, that's why I pissed in your garden...."  :laff:

By far the funniest thing I ever saw in TYO was in Sick when Viv stots Rick in the head with a 2 by 4....Twice....! Shit that's funny....

I'm afraid not. I just dont find him funny really. None of the numerous characters he appears as during the show have made me laugh really. I dont think the show would be quite the same without him, but he's definately my least favourite of The Young Ones.

Pssh, the Balowski Family were less funny than any of Alexei's solo stuff (or even his "Stuff", which was hilarious.)

But still funny though:

I've just been browsing the net to find The Young Ones DVD set called "Every Stoopid Episode", I'd be interested in getting that sometime. But everywhere I've looked, including English sites have only had it in Region 1.

Thats not really a problem as our family DVD player is multi region, but my DVD player in my room isn't, I think its just Region 2. How odd. Aah well never mind, you can pick both series 1 and 2 DVD's up now quite cheaply. Maybe I'll do that  :)

I wish I could get the box set, unfortunately, I'm broke. I first heard of the Young Ones a while back when Strong Sad dressed up like Vyvyan in a Halloween Toon[The Pumpkin Carve-nival]. Then I looked up the transcripts. Very funny! Sort of similar to Python but a bit more childishly vulgar. Very enjoyable.

I don't like Alexi Sayle either. It feels like he's intruding on the show. I don't really find any of his parts funny.  :(

The only funny he part he played was when the train was being held up by Mexican bandits and he was going on about biscuits being named after revolutionaries. Now thats comedy.  :D

The thing about Alexei is that his parts on The Young Ones aren't as funny as his solo comedy.  If you'd seen Alexei Sayle's Stuff, you'd probably think that he was a lot funnier.

What about the episode where he played a vampire from Johannesburg?  I thought that was pretty funny.

Neil: "He's gonna get us!  He's gonna turn us into vampires, and we'll all be dead, and yet still alive...  like Leonard Cohen!"

Personally, I think Alexei Sayle's bits are some of the best parts. It just adds to the madness when the whole programme suddenly stops just so that he can have a rant. His part in 'Flood' when he becomes an axe-wielding homicidal maniac is just brilliant!

Perhaps there is being a hack you can find? My Medion player can play Region 1 after putting in a code.

But then there's the next level of tech question, such as "Can my TV support an NTSC input?"
