I know he has, but he still seems to love the Al Jean episodes, even when it reverts to classic Scully-era traits.

I wonder what his reviews looked like when the Scully episodes were first airing? I honestly can't imagine him badmouthing the show.

Well its motivated more by people here really unfairly dismissing the simpsons as shit.
I dont know why they do its the closest style of comedy to futurama you'll get, as marginal as the input is Groening is there brian kelly (writer of loves labours lost in space) is there J. Stewart Burns is there, now in season 15 Bill Odenkirk
has joined the team, its really time some futurama fans watched a few episodes and made some re-evaluations.

Non members won't be able to see that. It's a poll I made about Scully's best works called...

"Scully had a knack for shit episodes...
...usually."

Edit: Also, you made some of the words red by using "search".

To defend Swartzwelder AGAIN, even barring the obvious fact (which I've had to go over again and again) that the credited writer doesn't generally write the majority of what's in the final episode, the episodes people bash him for the most are now of little relevance.  Kill the Alligator and Run was FOUR YEARS AGO.  I hate it, but I can let it go in the context of Swartzwelder, and that he was writing under a less then competent showrunner.

Now, he does seem to be inconsistant.  But Jean era episodes like "I Am Furious Yellow" and "Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington" are IMO good, as is "Lastest Gun in the West" to a lesser degree.  THOH XIV is mixed, Sweetest Apu is fairly bad I admit.  Never seen Regina Monologues (fuck you Tony Blair).

In any case, the point is that he has improved significantly.  Its hardly a sure thing that his episodes will be good obviously (and when that was the case, I'd say it was helped largely by the simple fact that Scully hadn't detereorated the show yet, as opposed to being purely his own talent), but is hardly a sure thing they'll suck either, like it was FOUR YEARS AGO.

nothing good will come of this. i can't think of the last time a good movie came from a tv show. they're making it because it will make money, not because it will be any good. and they don't have to make it any good for it to sell either, because the simpson name alone will carry the movie.

Admittingly that's the only example I can think of...but it can be done.

Uh, every other Star Trek film with the exception of Nemesis? Unless you are talking only animated, in which case... the record isn't too good.

True, although how many animated shows that have been turned into movies were actually GOOD to begin with?  Plus even the shows that could be considered quality have mostly been children's shows.  Adult animation is a different realm.

Plus, I'd again point to SP: BLU as an example of a an animated show turned into a good movie.  I'd say the movie was better then the show in that case.

I haven't seen the South Park movie, and only two episodes of the show, a long time ago... but I'll take your word on the subject. I've mostly heard good things about it, anyways.

Yeah, there's no real plan to end the series at this point.  They've always said that they want to wait a few years after the series ends to do a movie but at this point it seems like they're just conceding to the fact that the series will go on for quite some time still, and thus they might as well do a movie before it ends.

Not sure if I agree, but I guess we'll see from the quality of the movie.

Ranadok, I would reccomend South Park's movie.  Its actually a pretty interesting look at the issue of censorship and is mostly hilarious to boot.  There are some cruder moments that aren't as great (that's to be expected though), but overall its a good film.  Its also better then at least most of the series, and certainly better then the first two seasons of the show.

Heh, yeah I'm usually fairly discreet about watching the show or the movie myself.  Hate to admit it but I watched the movie in my room with headphones so no one would know.  They wouldn't not allow me to watch it, but it would seem odd for me to given the show's reputation.

It kind of annoys me about South Park they can do a brilliantly clever satirical plot, alongside a disgusting crude B story.

The Daria movie, best animated series turned movie, ever, closely followed by Beavis and Butthead do America.
Just a couple of examples to show it indeed can be done, and that BLU isn't the only one out there.

The Daria movies were straight-to-video, I believe. I don't really like the show, but that's just me.
The South Park and Beavis & Butthead movies were superb. But they were made when the shows were still really good. (and the two remained good until the end, or in South Park's case, up to now). But the Simpsons is now at a period of averageness, with a few hits and many misses. But maybe if the creators put their hearts and souls into it, Season 16 will end in 2006, and then the movie will come out afterward. It could be a good movie, and it'd be a perfect way to cap off the series for good. That is if we don't get a season 17, which I pray we don't.

I believe Seasons 15 and 16 were announced to renewed way before the other shows (which heralded Futurama's doom  :(); if memory serves, in January or February. So we may find out about the same time next year. Alternatively, if they don't announce it early, then it might be next year's May.

No Mike Reiss said in interview announcing the Movie that there's no end in sight, that Al jean rejuvinated it a bit after it had a got little tired, That they've started working on season 16 and its looking good. unless fox decides to drop  there most succesful show ( I may be mistaken on that) Its very Likley to continue.

Interesting.

See, I'm not a huge fan of South Park's first two seasons.  In fact, from what I've seen season one is pretty awful, and season two is often mediocre with occasional bursts of genius.  In fact it seems like South Park didn't get really good until just around the time the movie came out (maybe right after).  And I think the show right now is far better then pre-movie.  Won't comment on Beavis and Butthead as I've never seen the movie or show, although it always looked pretty stupid to me at the time.

As for season 17 of The Simpsons, I think we'll find out either at the end of this season, or sometime during next if the show will be renewed again.  At the current time its maybe a little too early to tell, although I will say that there doesn't seem to be any signs of stopping.

Damn right.  Like I said in the Season 15 thread, many people actually manage to delude themselves into thinking it's better than it is just because it's "The Simpsons".
