It will be like the ALF movie. By the time they make it no one will care.

I honestly don't see how you reached that conclusion.

Alf was a flash in the pan show.  A FAD.  But The Simpsons is not a fad.  Its the longest running sitcom ever and one of the most important and popular television shows of all time.

OF COURSE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO CARE.

Mind you, that doesn't mean they'll neccasarily like it (see: The Phantom Menace).  But they will sure as hell care.

A Simpsons movie would be as bad as a Futurama movie would be.

I don't think we can rubbish it because it is made by fox, they've made plenty of good films, and some less good ones, but that is no different from any other studio.

I'm shocked that they are finally making a Simpsons movie.

But I'm even more shocked that someone who isn't leelaholic started a Simpsons thread!

Anyway, my thoughts about the movie: if they use the current writing staff, it will be about as good as their other big-screen effort("The Animal" starring Rob Schneider). If its written by some older writers, then it COULD be good, but I am still skeptical.

Do you have difficulty understanding this is a Futurama message board, and being so there's probably a much more larger number of people who would rather see a Futurama movie rather than a shitty Simpsons movie?

This movie will suck unless they get some of the old writers to write. Even then, it's hard to think of a Simpsons plot (other than maybe some Treehouse of Horror thing) that could last even as much as an hour and a half. If the latter parts of "Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part II" taught us anything, it's that the Simpsons doesn't hold up too well after a half-hour to 45 minutes.

whether it's good or bad, it needs to be done. If it's bad, than it's bad. Nothing new, Simpsons will just leave at a slightly faster pace and Futurama will be given a slim chance (Fox still needs the Simpsons viewers and most likely Fox will make alot of money anyway). If it's good, than Futurama gets an even larger opportunity to do... something. Make a movie, maybe. That would work much better than a Simpsons Movie anyway; Futurama is much better at subplots and would be able to fill the time.

We know that Al Jean and Mike Reiss are on the team and I think I read that the movie deal contract says that Matt Groening has to have a big part.

I'm not being pessemistic, realistic is more like it. But I haven't even said it's going to suck. I seriously do think it could be ok, but I have my doubts (because of recent seasons). I balanced these two sides out with my first post in this thread, and haven't bad mouthed the movie since. I've only agreed on a logical comparison...

It'll probably be good because of the writers. there's troubling reports that say mike scully will be involved, however there's also Al Jean Mike Reiss David Mirkin George Meyer
Matt Groening and James.L.Brooks,
although the article didn't give any evidence for that idea so who knows.

But its not going to like the series. there will be 7 writers thats definate.
according to the report 6 of them are brilliant writers and are taking there time over finding a good idea.

and of course people would prefer a good futurama movie over a crappy simpsons movie,
but a lot of us would prefer a good simpsons movie over a bad futurama movie.

Yeah, there's reports, or at least speculation, that Brooks and Groening will be helming this, while Mirkin, Reiss, Jean, Scully, and Meyer will be writers on it.  I think they said the speculation came from an "insider" but who knows what they mean by that.  In any case Brooks did speak publically about the film so at least he is probably involved.

Also, regarding a Futurama movie....keep in mind that this could help Futurama's chances of that A LOT.  Especcially if this movie is a success (and it WILL be a success financially, no matter what), Fox Studios may become interested in launching other movies where they can its "from the creator/producers of The Simpsons!".  Who knows?  Maybe they'll even insert imagery of Futurama characters into the Simpsons movie to hype it up.

Because then the universe will collapse in on itself in a wild overflow of illogic!  Just kidding. It won't be so wild.  Seriously, though. I agree. I'm hoping for a good (if not great) movie from the Simpsons camp, which will then lead to a good/great Futurama showing on the big screen.  That way, we'll have two good movies, and both sides can shut up.

Meh, I don't think Swartzwelder is evil, or good. Just a wild card that more accurately reflects the current showrunner's style than any individual talents, which isn't that surprising, seeing how little he contributes to the writing process after the original script.

Heh, I just meant that it was a bit unsettling. But, with Reiss, Meyer(!!), and Jean on the staff, I won't worry too much. Also, Scully will be under supervision, rather than going it on his own like in seasons 9-12.
