Sounds interesting, a group of all the best guest stars coming back would be nice....

Actually, I'd prefer little to no guest stars. Mostly, though, I'm worried about how this may negatively effect the series. I would like it more if they were to wait until the series ended, but with that not in the forseeable future... who am I to complain?  Here's a question, do you think this will be good or bad for Futurama's chances at a movie? I mean, if this does really well, I expect it to help, but if it bombs, it's sure to kill any chances for its sci-fi brother.

I don't really mind, I don't have a passionate hate towards the idea, like some people. As unlikely as it is, I think it would be possible for The Simpsons to sustain a movie, if written in a way such as 'Trilogy of Error'. However, in the light of the most recent seasons of The Simpsons, I have to look at this from two perspectives. The first is it can't really get any worse than it is now, so who cares? Even if it's a bad thing, it's almost impossible to sink any lower, isn't it?... Uh oh! And the second is, perhaps for this movie they'll actually try and do something good... we can dream after all, can't we?... Damn, my dream turned into a nightmare, then I woke up!...

Didn't Rowan Atkinson go mad or something?

I can see how going from high brow comedy (eg. Blackadder   :D    ) to something like Rat Race might make him crack   :hmpf:

My three fave Simpsons eps (Homie the Clown, Burns Baby Burns and You Only Move Twice) were written by John Swartzwelder and Ian Maxtone-Graham. Is Swartzwelder involved? He kicked ass.

Guy, the key-word is 'kicked.' He used to kick ass, but now he's been credited for some bad episodes of our day, most notably "Simpson Safari."

Yes, a Simpsons movie!! This is going to be so great!! I can't wait for this!! Even if I hate everything since Season 10 and I don't even watch it anymore!! This gives me hopes!! If it bombs at the boxoffice, the Simpsons will finally end!!

Now, first off this should be taken with a small grain of salt, just in case.  But this is the first time EVER that any concrete information has been given about a movie.  It does look pretty likely now.

The good news is that Reiss seems legitimately excited about doing it (which is saying alot, as he has publically stated in the past that the show declined), and that veteran writers are working on.  For the record I would bet Scully won't be heavily involved.  It don't think Reiss would be so excited if Scully was involved.

Al Jean and Mike Reiss should spearhead the movie. But Al Jean's busy as the executive producer. That's why the series should end after the season 16 contract and they just make the movie. It comes out. The Simpsons ends.
...oh wait, FOX has more than one movie in their contracts, I believe.

Sort of.

Now that they're evidentally working on the script I guess the contract may already be different.  But previously the contract was that the voice cast would obligated to do UP TO three movies.  That doesn't mean they'll do that many, or even that they would do any at all (though obviously its always been an inevitability that there would be at least one movie), just that the voice actors would be contractually obligated to do them if that many movies happened.

Agreed that Jean and Reiss should spearhead or at least be among those spearheading it.  I hope Matt Groening and James L. Brooks are involved too (Sam Simon would be wishful thinking).

My prediction for the Simpsons' Movie:
The first 40 minutes of the movie will be good, the next 30 will suck, and the final 10 minutes will be 'okay.'

I can make a guarentee, right now, that no matter how good this movie is, 70% of the population will say thay hate it, it's just how these things work.
These fanboys are an insane breed of ravenous critiques, who will watch the movie, not for enjoyment, not for fun, but just so they'll have something to complain about the next day.
[/Fanboy Rant]

I'm sure the movie will be great, i mean if they've taken 13-14 years to get a suitable storyline, it can't be too bad.
But as Johnny said, it will probably be a hit or miss type project.

I'm actually really looking forward to the movie. It will probably be back to the standards of seasons 1-8 because Matt Groening will be paying attention to it now that Futurama is gone, and a lot of the best writers will be back.
