Pre-Voyager Borg or Post-Voyager Borg?

Species 8472 would be high if they didn't use them twice and then forgot all about them (alright, if you include "Prey", then it's three times). And after "Scorpion", the Borg were wussified beyond belief.

From what I've seen, the Dominion seem like fairly efficient and ruthless imperial machines, so I'll vote them.

Wot... nobody mentioned Q yet?  :)

The Borg were ruined the moment TPTB came up with the ridiculous idea of a "Borg queen" for FC and then VOY finished them off.

S8472 was yet another example of great potential wasted just like that.  :( Nice fx, though...

No, because except for his first two appearences on TNG, he was never really a bad guy in that sense.

I'm going to make Teral very happy by saying Cardassians, and Dukat in particular.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but I agree with the spandex-clad cyclops 100%.

For further evidence look no further than our "plain and simple" taylor friend on DS9. We think he's on our site, he help us all the time, but can we ever be sure? Even as he's helping Sisko get more forces for the Federation Alliance we can't be sure of his motives. At the same time, he's slowly leading a hero of the Federation down the path of "good intentions" and "the ends justify the means", which goes against the very core of Federation ideals. And we, the audience, is rooting him! So awesomely brilliant.

I don't really see Garak as a nemesis.

Don't know.

From dictionary.com:

nem·e·sis    ( P )  Pronunciation Key
n. pl. nem·e·ses (-sz)

  • 1) A source of harm or ruin
  • 2) Retributive justice in its execution or outcome: To follow the proposed course of action is to invite nemesis.

I'll take this one: Sisko wanted to play with fire (luring the Romulans into the war, using fake evidence and deception) and thought he could walk away with clean hands. Garak showed him that the world isn't so simple. Sisko had every oppurtunity to walk away, Garak even told him that the consequences could be grim. Sisko said he didn't care. In the end he did care about the assasination of senator Vreenak, but then it was too late. And Garak told him so in no uncertain words, you play with fire you risk getting burnt.

"That's why you came to me, wasn't it? Because you knew I could do those things you weren't capable of doing. Well it worked, and you'll get what you want--a war between the Romulans and the Dominion. And if your conscience is bothering you, you should soothe it with the knowledge that you may have just saved the entire Alpha Quadrant. And all it cost was the life of one Romulan senator, one criminal, and the self-respect of one Starfleet officer. I don't know about you, but I'd call that a bargain."

  • 3) An opponent that cannot be beaten or overcome.
  • 4) One that inflicts retribution or vengeance.
  • 5) Nemesis Greek Mythology. The goddess of retributive justice or vengeance.

Then again I was just using him to underline my opinion that the Cardassians are the best of all ST baddies (which is what I assume this thread is about, Nemesis being a play on ST X, and all).

But in the episode you stated he did help Sisqo. He only killed the Romulan and possibly that holograph rod maker.

And after the massacre on Cardassia they are fewer in numbers and have several cities to rebuild.

So the biggest threat to Starfleet in the Alfaquadrant would, at the moment be The Romulans even though they wanted peace talks in "Nemesis" they can't be trusted for as stated above, they have no honour.

If my memory dosen't fail me The Breen has some awsome ships (even though they look like junk heaps) and their fleet isn't to small. And you never really know where you have the Breen. Or as the Romulans say "Never turn your back on a Breen". Therfore they can be considred a threat.

The Klingon empire is still weak after both the wars they've been in and are trusted allies of Starfleet. Especially now with Martok being their emperor.

The Borg are always a threat and from my limited knowledge about them they could send 1 or 2 Cubes to assimilate us whenever they want. Especially if Q gets one of his little ideas and decides to maybe send them here.

Antagonist is not the same as nemesis.

Did anyone say Evil Clone Picard yet?

Like Teral I thought this would be used to discuss the various threats to the Federation. But if you want to keep it to Nemesis I would say Romulan.

Shinzon was LAME, and ruined the last TNG movie.
I like Lore as Data's nemesis, I havent seen season 6 of TNG, so I dont know how that pans out.

As an all round Nemesis of the federation I'd say the Romulans, but Nemesis ruined that too!
