I think the title speaks for itself....  Talk about a movie that was ferociously horrifying, the sequels it spawned, your favorite B Horror movie actor or all of the above.... I had to combine all the aka's cause there was just too many things this thread could've been named....

Well, it's a series of movies... would that still land it in the TV board?

Oh, and the movies are swell. My favorite scene is the fight in Evil Dead 2 with his possessed/disembodied hand. Hilarious.

Two things:

1. The t.v. board is for t.v. and movies.  Didn't you notice that at least half of the threads were movie threads?

2. This isn't just a thread about the Evil Dead movies.  It's a thread about Bruce Campbell.  That means we can discuss "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.", "Xena", "Jack of All Trades", and any other shows Bruce Campbell has been on, in addition to his films.

So, as long as we're on the subject: are there any other PEELers who are fans of "Brisco County", or am I the only one?

Bruce Cambell rocks. I am very tempted to get his auto biography "If chins could kill: Confessions of a B movie star".

I thought his cameo is Spiderman was pretty cool but not totally surprising (after all it was directed by Sam Remi).

Of the Evil Dead films. I will probably say that Dead by Dawn was my faveourtie. I think it had just the right amount of comedy and horror. Besides, Ash attacking his own hand is a classic.

Grateful Dead?

No, Evil Dead that crazy horror movie that is hilarious or whatnot...  Yeah it seems Campbull and Sam Rami or whatever his name is like to work together a lot, I was looking at stuff and I think Sam helped create Hercules and Xena both of which Bruce was on...

I have watched Brisco County Jr., but it's been a long time.  As I recall it wasn't a half bad show about a mcgyver like character in the old west... mcgyver like in that he could come up with solutions pretty fast.  I've watched an episode or two of Jack of all Trades too, but it basically got off the air before it could take off I guess.

Still waiting for Bubba Ho Tep to come out.  :( I hope it does soon because I have really been wanting to check it out. I hope it's not just an independent film.

Jack of All Trades was like Hercules or Xena, but set in the Napoleonic era.  It was okay, but it wasn't Campbell's best work.

On the other hand, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. was one of my favorite shows of all time.  In fact, the only reason that I started watching The X-Files was because it came on right after Brisco County.

I haven't read that yet, but a friend of mine has, and he really liked it.  Of course, he's an even bigger fan of Bruce Campbell than I am, so he may be somewhat biased.

Brisco County was great.  It was on the same night as X-Files, and both shows started in the same year.  Both also got horrible ratings, but only Brisco was canceled, though I liked it a lot more.  I hope they do a DVD set.

The Evil Dead movies are also great.  I saw Evil Dead II first, but Army of Darkness is probably my favorite.  (And I saw them both before they were cool, too!)  But the Laserdisc/DVD of Evil Dead II has the best commentary I've ever heard.

And Campbell's book is good too.  If you buy it, be sure to get the more recent version, since it has an extra chapter about the book tour he did when the book first came out.

I think Brisco was cancelled because Fox invested more money on it. X-Files wasn't as heavily promoted as Brisco did, so when the ratings came, the executives were more dissapointed with Brisco than with X-Files.

Here's something about Bruce and Sam-

(bruce Talking) I then met future big shot director Sam Raimi in a high school drama class in 1975. See, Sam did a lame-o pantomime in class, and I followed it with an equally lame-o one - we consoled each other and became fast friends. Soon, along with Sam and a bunch of other high school knuckleheads, we began making heaps of super-8 movies - about 50 or so.

Campbell's book is hilarious, with a lot of great pictures. This guy always cracks me up. And lest we forget the cameos. One in particular spawned a horrifying[ly sexy] fanfic I found... Guess and you get a cookieand a terrifying sense of shame..
Anyway. He was great in Xena. I'll never forget the one where Xena 'posessed' his body and while doing so kissed Gabrielle. YAYPSEUDOLESBIANSCENE.

I've only ever seen Bubba Ho Tep and Army Of Darkness, so I went out and picked up Evil Dead. I'll watch it later.

Yo, she-bitch, let's go!

Evil Dead 2 is getting a Book of the Dead DVD release too. Not too much additional stuff in the special features department (new audio commentary though), but I'm gonna buy it anyway.  :)

So what's next? Army of Darkness in a Necronomicon replica that bites your fingers off?  ;)

I'm pissed off because my copy of Army of Darkness seems to be missing a lot of stuff... inc. the all-important 'I'm the guy with the gun' line. It seems to be a bog standard DVD release, but I can't find any other editions about. It's very annoying. I feel like I've seen the film with all the coolest bits removed. Gah.

After a bit of research, it seems I have the international release. The one I wanted was the American theatrical release. Now, why the hell are there so many different versions of this movie? Gaah. I want my Bruce Campbell commentary!

Well, a couple of years ago I actually met Bruce Campbell and he was hilarious and just - a god! Hail to the king indeed. It also involved him 'crashing' on one of the other stars talks by putting on a crazy beard, mac and scottish accent along with Ted Raimi, sitting behind me and generally taking the piss out of who was on stage.
My my.... whatta chin.

I saw Army of Darkness the other day on AMC.

Also, for all you Campbellites out there, you can catch him on USA's Burn Notice on Thursdays at 10pm. It's a action/comedy series, and Bruce is very good in it.
