While he did do a great job, I'll say it again, EVERYONE did an insanely good job in that movie, and picking out one actor from that movie for a best performance oscar would be saying the performances by the other actors (Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Bernard Shaw, Christopher Lee, etc...) weren't as important...it was just too big a cast to single out a best performance.

By the way, did you know the dude who plays Theoden (Bernard Shaw) was the Explosives-making comic relief man in "The Scorpion King"?

Unless maybe he did a "parents, talk to your kids about drugs" speech. That would be pretty cool.
the speech would have been about accepting homosexuality. duh

Nix: when you say Astin had a lot of support, you mean so much support that he wasn't even nominated?

I think Astin had a lot of support from nerds and that ilk. Nobody whose opinion mattered, though.

Tell that to Mr. Bill Gates...his opinion certainly matters to a few people...and hell, TIME magazine said he should be nominated...how's that for a non-nerd?

EDIT:

That would have been Sir Ian McKellen's acceptance speech, since he is actually gay.
