I like Family Guy a lot, and I'm glad it's coming back. Don't get me wrong, Futurama is far and away my favorite show ever, and I would be peeing myself if it actually came back. Seriously, if it were coming on in January instead of family guy, I would have three and a half months of solid urination. But Family Guy DVDs have sold better than Futurama's, and I would guess that it is cheaper than Futurama to produce, which is why Fox has chosen to renew it. Even if it is as expensive as Futurama to produce, it has still sold more DVDs, and thus made Fox more money. That's the reason Fox is renewing it: more DVDs sold means more advertisers will pay more to put more commericals on, thus earning Fox more money. It has nothing to do with Fox sticking it to Futurama fans - beyond what they've already done, since we all know they screwed Futurama over. I'm sure it was making them at least as much money as King of the Hill - but, I digress.

No. I don't think they've given them that much thought, really, the same way I give little thought to letters after I've read them and thrown them out. LOL starts with a new Futurama." Homer: "Doh!...I mean, whoo hoo!"
That was FOX's way of insulting Futurama fans, having a Simpson character insult Futurama. That's moronic. Not only are you completely ignoring the general light-hearted nature of the advertisment, you're also trying to place you're own silly meanings upon the text. If you really think that's what the add was about... there's little hope for you. Once again, Fox was never fond of the show, but they didn't have an insidoius vendetta against the show's fans. They just don't care. Also, capslock is the tool of Satan. I can't give you any crediblilty if you're doing that. How old are you, again?

then I suppose you are saying it is a coincidence they have Homer say that line right after they introduce Futurama?
i know why FOX didn't like the show. I also know that they didn't understand why us fans like the show. It annoyed them that a show such as Futurama gain so much support, because it prevented them from cancelling much quicker. I know they don't care about what we think.
I also remind you about FOX changing Futurama's timeslot. Sundays at 7, they knew that was a lousy timeslot. They figured with that timeslot, the show wouldn't gain that much ratings what with pre-emption with their lousy football games.
When ratings were still good, they decided to do something worse. Which brings up those times when there was no football game and instead of airing an new episode of Futurama along with new episodes of Simpsons and KOTH, they'd air a rerun of Simpsons, or KOTH during the early part of 2003. And all of sudden, the show's cancelled. FOX's official reason, low ratings. They neglect to mention about the argument Matt had with them, telling them how unfair they were to the show.
The reason why I say this is because from learning from the past. Remember Gilligan's Island. That was a huge show, fans loved it and CBS stuck it to the fans and cancelled that show.
Of course CBS would later offer fans three TV made movies to give closure, but I doubt FOX will give us fans that.

then I suppose you are saying it is a coincidence they have Homer say that line right after they introduce Futurama? I'm saying that it's not a jab at Futurama fans. It's just a Simpson's quote that fit. i know why FOX didn't like the show. I also know that they didn't understand why us fans like the show. It annoyed them that a show such as Futurama gain so much support, because it prevented them from cancelling much quicker. I know they don't care about what we think. Newsflash: Futurama NEVER did that well. Considering it's outlandish premise, it was never the ratings smash it needed to be. No, the shifting timeslots certainly didn't help, but if it had acheived constantly excellent ratings during it's brief stint on a primetime slot, it would have done okay. What you fail to understand is that Fox sabotaged the show because they didn't like it, not becasue of some vendetta against the fans. Despite the fact that you claim to understand this, you then immediately turn around and imply that Fox 'stuck it too the fans.' Yes, they did, but it was a cold, passionless act, not one of calculated malevolence.

That ad, although perhaps poorly chosen, was not an intentional attack on Futurama. It was, as said, just a funny Simpsons (their most popular show, undeniably) quote that happened to fit in an ironic little way. They would've done it with practically any other show that happened to be in that slot, including The Simpsons (and they probably did do it with Simpsons/KOTH reruns).
Others have it right...Fox wasn't trying to annoy Futurama fans...they just didn't care. They made their decision on Futurama (largely, granted, due to their own distaste for it) and stuck with it. They didn't go "mwahahahahaha! Watch as I throw away another fan letter!". More then likely they just said "oh, here's a bunch of letters about that show we cancelled" and either read them or chucked them.
Fox makes a lot of dumb mistakes. More or less sabotaging Futurama's chances was one of them. But one mistake they aren't making is bring back another cancelled show simply to piss off Futurama fans. Do you really think they care anymore? They're done with it. Its a show that's completely in the hands of Fox Home Video and the syndication departments. They deal with it while the head programmers that didn't happen to care for it don't. And I'm fairly sure they are at least up for making a profit off of the dvds and syndication revenues.
Again, look at it this way. Family Guy is being watched very closely. Its an unprecedented situation, a show having been cancelled twice, building up all this hype, and then being brought back based off good dvd sales and rerun ratings. Futurama did not do as well as Family Guy, hence FG being renewed while Futurama sits on the shelves. But if all goes as planned with the FG renewal...do you really think the networks are not going to take a critical look at some of their past cancellations? This is a business that's largely about copying previous successes, whether they be another networks or your own. This doesn't mean Futurama will neccasarily be brought back thanks to FG....but it gives it a clearer shot then any letters, petitions, and bomb threats ever did.

This is all about ratings, right? Well, Futurama has high ratings since it's been on CN. David X. Cohen was impressed to learn that it was time slot that affected Futurama, but now since it is on a better time slot the ratings have been good. However, FOX still won't bring it back despite this turn or events.
The reason why you don't see Futurama shirts and stuff, is because lack of promotion from FOX. In the early 90's FOX did what they could to make the Simpsons a household name. They own the rights to the show and did all types of promotion. You said it yourself, FOX hates the show and thus gave little promotion to it, that it couldn't develop a fan base. The only place I know where you pick up a Futurama toy is at a comic shop or a flea market, while Simpson toys are at all sorts of stores.
I'm not surprised it took four years for Futurama to be a video game. The Simpsons have had video games come out much faster than that.
The ratings weren't that good for Futurama at 7, but it was still as decent as any other show on that time slot. I know I tuned in every Sunday at 7 to help keep the ratings up.
If you remember when I first posted on this thread I said, "Sometimes, I think FOX is bringing back Family Guy as a slap in the face to Futurama fans."
As far as Family Guy's return, I hope it does do well and causes FOX to think about bringing back Futurama.

That's not true. Although the quality of them may be in question, as far as I know many of the Acclaim Simpsons games sold quite well (and indeed spanned more then the the SNES; from memory, Dos, Genesis, Game Boy, Master System, NES, and Game Gear). The great Konami arcade game from 1991 was also very popular, Virtual Springfield from 1998 did well enough, and Simpsons Wrestling (terrible game btw) and Simpsons Bowling Arcade from 2000 both did decently enough as well. Plus even aside from the sales being good or bad, they're all "proper" video games. Bad in most cases (arcade game is great, Bowling is okay) but proper nonetheless, and apparently not much different in quality from the Futurama game.
With that said Futurama is better video game subject matter, although The Simpsons' best games (arcade game, Hit and Run) seem to have produced better results.

I'm pretty sure there'll be more than 13 episodes this season - the website I got this from described this list as "the FIRST 13" episodes. Keep in mind that the writers still haven't finished this season yet, so I wouldn't be surprised if this list was only of the episodes they've finished. Anyway, I think they will do another 'Road To' episode, but I also think it will be later on in the season. Hell, the last 'Road to' episode was originally intended to be Season 3's finale.
