USA Today says new episodes of Family Guy are more of a possibility now than ever before.
 http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2003-11-18-family-guy_x.htm

i now question whether i should be more optomistic in the future or not

it would be nice to be able to be optimistic, but Fox openly hated Futurama and was as far as i know, indifferent to Family Guy, so bringing one back doesn't make me think they will bring back the other.

An optimistic question would be, did the Futurama DVD's outsell Family Guy?

Over here, I think they did.

At least for Region One, I think Futurama has sold very well but Family Guy has sold
A LOT better actually.  Its the fourth best-selling television show on dvd as that article said.  Make of that what you will.

Well, I'd much rather Futurama come back (being my 2nd favourite show), but still - at least there's a high possibility my third favourite might return!

I hope Family Guy gets renewed although I don't see it as a sign of Futurama coming back.

lets hope that the all mighty dollar wins out. they may have hated the show, but i can't imagine that they would say no to a profitable revival.  i also never would have thought that there were that many "rabid" Family Guy fans out there.

One big strike against Futurama making a comeback (besides fox) is the beautiful animation it has.  I'm guessing Futurama costs a lot more to make than Family Guy.

The best part of that article is that they say Family Guy has no actors.  I bet the voice talent LOVES that.

I'll try not to get my hopes up too much, but I'm really glad it's being taken into consideration. Whilst it may not revive Futurama, I also love FG and one's better than none. And if only for that little bit of hope of this leading to a Futurama renewal.

If it does come back (and remember, this is far from set in stone), all luck to the FG fans. At the very least it would set a precedent and even if it didn't help to get the series back, it might provide extra leverage for MG on the subject of a movie, which is better than nothing, IMHO.

(Note downright pessimistic attitude of previous post, because I've had experiences raised and dashed before  ;)).

It makes me kind of happy because I really like FG so it's good, but it just makes me think how cool it would be to have this happening to Futurama, so it makes me kind of sad.

I agree. Family Guy (as far as I know) was cancelled because it was offensive, but Futurama was canceled because FOX was pissed at Groening. But still, that's awesome news.

That sucks how people find Family Guy offensive. Some people have to learn to laugh at themselves. And other people. But I'm glad they'll consider renewal.

It did do shitty ratings ratings during the last season though, manily due to Fox bringing it back on the air without telling anyone 0_o (i.e.Very few ads). Hopefully they don't do that again.

FOX actually making a smart move?
.: Brain explodes :.

This is good news that FOX is bringing back Family Guy, but they've gotta do more than that. Like publicize it. Hopefully the new Family Guy eps will still be fresh as the originals.

Yay!

I'm sure they had lots of stuff up their sleeves before the got the chop, I doubt they'll go stale/jump the shark, like the Simpsons did, so soon!

Most cartoons that return or get remade aren't the same as they where before. That usely sucks.

Yeah - it almost got cancelled after Season 2 had aired, but was revived at the 11th hour. Also, El Zilcho - Futurama wasn't cancelled because Fox were pissed at Groening. It was cancelled due to bad ratings (which were caused by Fox's ignorance and stupidity). Matt Groening's anger towards Fox really was only a SMALL contribution toward's Futurama's cancellation.

i don't think it was canceled because of Fox's ignorance and stupidity, i think what they did to hide the show was malicious and intentional. They have no problems advertising and keeping in a stable time slot the shows they like, (malcolm in the middle, anyone?) so i doubt their treatment of Futurama was just stupidity.

I meant ignorance and stupidity as in "they didn't realise what a good show they were destroying." It was obvious that Fox tried to sweep Futurama under the carpet, so to speak, but their reasons for doing so were pure idiocy on their behalf.

Is it not possible that FOX scheduling Futurama at such a stupid time in the first place was a result of them being pissed at Groening?

I think Family Guy has actually been doing better than Futurama in the Adult Swim ratings and so the same with region 1 DVDs...  People like gross humor and unexpectedness as compared to good storylines in America I suppose.  I really don't think this is a direct sign to Futurama being renewed, I think it's more of it being thrown to the wayside again....

you're pretty much right on Winna. In america things like "dude, where's my car" is popular. I admit i saw this movie, in the theaters even, and i could actually feel my IQ dropping. I went to that movie with like 12 friends and almost all of them experienced a slight drop in grades for a short time immedietly following that movie. And movies like this we export. Which is why america currently owns the world.

No, Family Guy is mostly stupid humor, but it's high quality stupid humor. The kind that's funny and clever, but still stupid, look at Clone High for another example. Bad stupid humor is what you get from "Dude Where's My Car!?!" and "The Pitts"

Exactly Newhook.

Anyway, I think the ratings for Futurama and Family Guy are actually about even.  Whether one beats the other or not usually has to do with one show coming back after a small break or premiering episodes on Adult Swim for the first time.  Other then that they're pretty much level.  However, I get the feeling DVD sales had more to do with FG's potential renewal then AS ratings did, even if the AS ratings are helping a little.

The point being is that, no matter what, FOX will not bring Futurama back from the dead. Period. There's too much bad blood between the two parties for there ever to be a resurrection. Unless Futurama suddenly makes millions of dollars on DVD and huge rating on CN, it'll stay dead. Sorry.

SOME episodes of Family Guy DO actually make good points (e.g. The King Is Dead) but most of them are just for laughs, as Newhook said.

Hmm, I've seen that ending on South Park, Futurama, and the Simpsons. And it's such a cliche, anyway.

Fry: "It looks like Bender learned an important lesson about respecting other people.."
Professor: "No, wait, it was running at triple capacity."
Bender: "And I still hardly felt a thing!"
