Guest stars haven't played other characters for a long time. Every time they bring a new star on they flash his/her name all over the advertisements as though he/she will make the show, and it usally seems forced anyway. If they had this kind of mentality from the beginning, we never would have met Sideshow Bob, Homer's brother, and a slew of other characters who gave the show some great episodes.
