I sometime watch it and I can only watch it on Sky 1. Shame that I won’t see the Stephanie McMahon vs. Mr. McMahon match because I don’t have Sky Sports 1. I like The Dudley boys, Stone Cold and Shane McMahon

That is either an unfortunate camera angle or there is something horribly wrong with the guy's neck.

Back when it was WWF I used to watch it a bit, it was great entertainment after a night out  :).   But about the time that guy died I stopped watching it because I had to work friday and saturday evenings      . Plus they were showing Space Ghost Coast To Coast at the same time on the cartoon network so WWF had to go.

Finally, a thread where I can talk about something I know.

WWE is in an odd way right now, RAW is great while Smackdown is suffering. Such was not the case a few months ago.

I think they can function perfectly without the Rock, they just need to utilize the talent the pay. And for god's sake, NO MORE MCMAHONS ON TV!!

They are wasting air time. If they just used the talent they had they could crush NWA:TNA easily!

Chris Kanyon - Here's a perfect example. This guy has a hell of alot of talent and is great on the mic. All he needs is a good run with US title to make him a headliner. The US title should be used to elevate young mid carderes to the next level, like Matt Hardy.

RAW is going to be sad without Rodney Mack, I really enjoyed this guy. But it looks like after an injury and now standing in the shadow of Mark Henry, this guy will never get his due.

Kurt Angle is better than ever, I believe he is one of the greatest things to ever happen to WWE. He's got all the right stuff, he's got the look, the ability and the charisma to be one of the best headliners of all time.

No one gives A-Train any credit if you ask me, hes one of the best if not THE best big guy the WWE has right now. At least he's better than the Big Slow.

Goldberg's title run can be a great one if done correctly and so far, I like what I see. Make Goldberg a target and have him squash the competition, its working so far and an upcoming victory over HBK will really let everyone know hes a top gun.

Lance Storm has a perfect gimmick right now. He always had the ability and always had the charisma, all he needed was a good gimmick to get the people behind him or against him. I think the best move for him now is to team up with RVD a little more, maybe to steal some of his heat before he himself begins gunning for the IC title.

Ultimo Dragon: I just cannot stress how dissapointed I am that the WWE has killed his push. Ultimo was taught to wrestle in a way that is disciplined and focused, no real crowd interaction and I think thats why Vince is just scrapping him. He thought he was just going to get another Rey Mysterio. Dragon is a highly respected icon in Japan and is a world Class athelete, it saddens me to see that he won't get the respect he deserves in the WWE.

EDIT: NIX - Have you ever even played revenge? The game is great and really revolutionary for its time. But aren't we talking about WWE here? Revenge is not only a video game(which he appears to be playing on the PSX, which it isn't for) but its WCW, and thats dead. But if we're bashing wrestling games, lets talk about bad ones. WCW nitro anyone?

and the Rock is a wrestler first, actor second.

Speaking as a former die-hard fan, I haven't watched any WWF programing on a consistant basis since WrestleMania 19. Sure, I saw "Summerslam" because it was on, and maybe I'll stop if I'm channel surfing. I still can't get through a whole episode now, it's just that bad. I think they've reached the point of no return. Nothing that they do could ever bring me back again.

I still watch from time to time, alot more since Triple H isn't mucking everything up the last few weeks. I liked the guy until he became the focal point of every single major storyline on RAW then I just got sick of him.

Okay then, here they are. It was an ok night.

Chris Benoit def. A-Train
Bashams def. APA
Tajiri def. Rey Mysterio
Kurt Angle def. John Cena
Brock Lesner def. Undertaker
Vince Mcmahon def. Stephanie
Zach Gowen def. Matt Hardy
Big Show def. Eddie Guerrero

overall a good night..it sucks that Matt lost to Zach. But I am glad that Zach is going to be getting a push. I think that after a win over Matt Hardy, people will better be able to accept Zach as a real superstar, so here's hoping.

all of my picks (except for the above) were right.   :D

Anyone else? How'd you all do on predictions?

I've not watched regularly since WM18.  I've got all of the Wrestlemania's on video too (except 19).  I keep thinking I should give it a chance, but it always falls flat.

I used to be a die-hard too (I used to love mark-out Monday, or Friday as it is in the UK).  I've been to a few live events: the WWF European Tour right after WM15 which had the repeat of the WM main event, the UK PPV "Rebellion" in 1999 (featuring the late British Bulldog), and a WCW tour in 2000 which gave me the "privilege" of seeing Bret Hart's "goodbye speech", Terry Funk, Ric Flair and Hacksaw Jim Duggan all wrestling, it (and it also featured the late Kurt Hennig).

I agree with the "drop the McMahons" angle from Coop.  Vinny Mac is just living the male fantasy really, by having these "sexy" valets - sure Trish is pretty damn hot, but Rena Mero (Sable) certainly isn't.

The matches should take precident in the story and not all this other shite (no T&A!!), everyone knows that people would rather see Kurt Angle Vs Chris Benoit (from WM17), The Rock Vs Hogan (from WM18), or the famous "Hell In The Cell" Match from King Of The Ring 98 between Mankind and The Undertaker, than puppies.  Why can't Linda McMahon see that?

I also highly recommend watching "Beyond The Mat" or "Wrestling With Shadows".

It went bankrupt, ditched by Turner Broadcasting, gutted, and sold to the WWF. Coincidently, that was just around the time when pro-wrestling started to really suck.

The Monday Night Wars was surely the thing which kept the WWF on it's toes over the years, when they won out, they got complacent.

*weeps for the lost/dropped angles*

Boy the WWF sure dropped the ball when two of the biggest angles landed in their laps after the buy-out of WCW (and later ECW).  The "invasion" angle, totally stank, and the "nWo" they bolloxed up by getting Nash and Hall to try and wrestle anyway.  Nash is so bad now, mind you, when he was Diesel he as pretty shite anyway.  None of the nWo are good workers anyway, especially Hogan, who is carried for most of his matches - and how can that big boot/leg drop finisher be devastating?  My gran could get up from that.

Locker Room politics ruins wrestling anyway, we have wrestlers who are booking matches - that should never happen.  Kevin Nash was a booker at WCW, and he stank the place out.  Plus we have Wrestlers like Stone Cold and HHH who are given too much power, and therefore refuse to job to up-and-coming wrestlers to bring the product on.  Stone Cold did this with Brock Lesnar.

The WWF had an embarrasment of riches in their hands with both the WWF, WCW and ECW rosters in their stable.  They got really sloppy, and kept sticking with the Mr McMahon angle for too damn long.

That Survivor Series was six years ago.  Time to put Vinnie Mac to bed.

Man, I gotta pretty much agree with everything you said Melllvar.  Politics backstage can kill locker room morale, one of the reasons Chris Jericho left for WWF way back when.  Remember when Nash won the title from Goldberg, he booked himself to win.  The whole NWO angle was cool at first, but c'mon, how may time can the NWO guy start to lose, and the rest follow down, and then there's the beatdown in the ring.  That was good for a while, but, every week, man.

The Mr. McMahon angle was good for awhile, but they need to shut that down as well, start pushing some of the younger guys, and get some interesting storylines going.  For me, the WWF always had the more interesting storylines, while the NWA/WCW, had the better feuds.  McMahon also needs to quit being hung up on the big guys, and give the littler wrestlers some time to shine.  Chris Benoit? In a real fight, he could pretty much crush almost every guy in the company now.

Sorry for ranting, but I found out the hard way, backstage politics can make or break you.

No problem, I'm interested in your insights into Pro Wrestling.  Seeing as you Wrestled in Japan.

I read up (ages ago) on some great textbook booking, and the "Dusty Rhoades Finish" booking angle was a particular favourite (as it used to infuriate fans), I have a poor memory of it, but it went something like this (Wonderbee, please feel free to correct me):

Heel is on top and beating down the Face, referee #1 gets bumped, in comes referee #2 and takes over, after a struggle and a high spot, the face wins.  Except referee #1 comes to, and reverses the decision.  It's called the "Dusty Rhoades Finish" as he always used to use it when booking for WCW.

Wrestlers who book, should never book matches or angles they're involved in.  Three words: conflict of interest.

Also true.  Jericho left WCW because the he was getting buried.

I'll say this, Jericho's arrival in WWF was one of the best RAW's ever (well, it was one of my favourites).  One of the reasons I've always liked Jericho, is he's a good wrestler, had a good finisher, the Lionsault followed by the Liontamer (or Walls Of Jericho, whatever you wanna call it).  Plus, he's second only to The Rock on the Mic.

Agreed on Benoit, he so deserves a monster-push, which is why I sighted his match at Wrestlemania 17 with Kurt Angle as a good one (the first five or so minutes of mat-wrestling and take-downs, was really good to see.)

Ah, yes, the "Dusty Finish." Infuriated many an NWA fan in its day. It got to the point that everyone would expect a Dusty Finish at the end of every big match. Therefore, no one would care for the first fall, and the fans got bored. It's like the run-in right now.

And, unless something changes quickly, I cannot see McMahon putting the belt on Benoit, Guerrero, or Cena. McMahon doesn't like "small" guys. We'll see more Big Show pushed forever, more Mark Henry (why isn't this guy fired yet?), more Undertaker, etc..

It's the same 6 guys on top all the time (HHH, Kane, Taker, Big Show, Lesnar, Angle). While I like Lesnar and Angle, I am getting tired of seeing them fight all the time. And that's why I've stopped watching. There's no enjoyment if you know the guys you like will get nowhere

The invasion angle was the chance of a lifetime for WWE. They could have made big stars and big money in the process. But vince seemed to be more obsessed with showing the world the the WWF is better than WCW by systematically squashing every WCW star then firing them, it was really tragic as a WCW fan to handle.

Heyman as the new GM is definatley going to make things more interesting. I really don't have too many things to complain about at the moment, I think that they are slowly taking a step in the right direction. If they can just move Benoit into the title picture than they can finally bill him as the champ he has always deserved to be.
He always seemed like the next Bret Hart to me.

As for RAW I can only complain that its too shory.  :D  Some angles are featured one week and some are the next week, its frustrating when all you want to see is Rodney Mack.

The tag division has gotten pretty stale overall. I liked La Resistance and thier tag run could have been great but there just wasn't enough teams for them to get the push.

WWE needs to work on its dying tag division at the moment, hire the Ballard Brothers or some other teams and slowly just make that transition you know? The tag division needs it.

A while ago it was the cruiserweight division.  With Mysterio, are they fairing better with them?

I think the problem with the cruiserweights is that they have them on separate shows.  They need to sign guys from All Japan, some Lucha Libre's and let 'em do their stuff.  Now, they're starting to have the cruiser fight the heavyweights, and other than a gimmick, it doesn't work well.  Put 'em all on one show, have 6 or 8 man tag matches, and end up with half a dozen guys doing moonsaults on each other at the same time.  If that doesn't get a crowd woke up, then they need defibrillators  :D

Thanks for the kind words Melllvar, I can give some small insight, probably better if I had been in the US big leauges.

All right Coop, someone that can mark out for some of the great Japanese wrestlers is (Bill and Ted) Excellent; plunkity plunk plunk (/Bill and Ted)

Vince has always loved big guys, and he always will. Perhaps when Shane McMahon takes over, then more of the storylines will change over, who knows?  For anyone who likes to read about WCW, go check out ddtdigest on the web, it's a great resource.

Oh and to the families of Stu Hart, and Michael Hegstrad, aka Hawk from L.O.D or the Road Warriors, my condolences on your loss.  They were great men in the world of wrestling, and will be missed terribly.

I am saddened by these two losses. The wresting world has sufferend so many losses this year. Hawk was looking a few months ago in the ring against RVD and Kane.   :( Its sad that Stu died without seeing one of his students become champion one last time. MY condolences to the Hart family..who has lost so much in the past years.

On a happier note, the release of WWE Smackdown: Here comes the Pain is very close. And in honor of that, IGN hosted an interview with a Legend who is going to be featured in the game(Along with Legends LOD, Oldschool Undertaker, Snuka, Piper, Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, George "The Animal" Steele and Hillbilly Jim). Here is a link to the interview.

The reason I mentioned it though, was because I wanted to share a story he told in the interview that I found particularly interesting.

One of the other ones, and I don't remember if this was televised or if it was for a house show, but I wrestled a match for about 20 minutes, then I had a kid come into the ring and I took off my boot and sweaty sock, then had this kid kiss my feet. Here's the catcher though, that kid was Rob Van Dam. The kid who kissed the Million Dollar Man's feet grew up to be a wrestler.

Cool huh?
