If you wanna bash the Emmys don't get me started on the Oscars. Very often, most of the pompous critics give action/thriller/sci-fi movies bad reviews. But they always acclaim an Oscar-whore movie that's all trite and lovey-dovey.

Oh well, we can't expect all of them to be young comic book geeks. No. They're people who have goatee beards and who wear black poloneck sweaters and frameless glasses. They have no sense of taste and cannot appreciate a story. Sometimes.

But I lost my last small shred of confidence in the Oscars when they gave one to Denzel Washington for Training day. Did anyone else see Samuel L. Jackson's look when they announced Denzel? It was a look of 'This is some s***'.

I don't give a crap what the critics like. They like what they like, I like what I like. If it's the same, so be it. If it's not, meh.

I dont really like things like this at all. Same with reading reviews of things. Every single solitary person on this planet is different. So obviously people are gonna like and dislike things more than others. Someone could give an absolutely crap review of something, but I really like it. And vice-versa. Its all a matter of opinnion so I never take these things to heart. People slag Linkin Park off all the time and what not, do I give a shit, no! I really like them a lot, its all personal taste. I dont keep up with the Oscars at all and couldn't care less really. But if I did, I'd take the same attitude. Like Otis said, they like what they like, I like what I like    :)

We only think the Oscars are important when our favorite movies win. When they don't, the Oscars suck.

Personally, a lot of films nominated for Oscars just don't seem very appealling or interesting (In the Bedroom, Gosford Park, etc) However, sometimes something good slips through.

The Oscers suck, they give a black women a oscer and she says "the door is open" then the next year a black women is nominated and she dosent win because those people are probably afraid of her.

The Oscars are a politically correct three coil steamer of a dog turd.

A gratuitous back slapping crappenfest.

I think they are half crap, half good. I think that as an awards show of "popular" and "good" (even if it's barely good) movies they work very well.

Why american pop culture enjoys watching an award show gets me baffled in the first place. But the oscars arent that bad, sometimes the decisions are, but in general, I got no beef..

i don't watch the oscars & don't give a crap about what these critics think. the oscars is just another excuse for no talent celebrties to show off another expensive designer gown.

the only thing that had me interested in the oscars was a few years back when Bjork was there, but i didnt even watch it for her.

I agree with Mr. Potter the awards are just given to a popular "good" film. Rarely the best film of the year gets best picture. Only a successful film that has some artistic merit gets the award.

It is fun to watch, also helps some actors/writers/directors get some fame and a nice head start in the industry. Lately best picture films are usually not talked about a couple of years latter, look at the effect that Forest Gump had on culture compared to Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption.
