I want to hear what you think were the best plot twists in films or TV that totally caught you off guard and forced you to pull your pants back up!!

Usual Suspects, y'know the one!!

Right, go!

I thought "surprise" in The Usual Suspects was incredibly obvious from the beginning.  I thought it was so obvious that I wondered if they wanted the audience to think that and then surprise them with something else.  I don't get why so many people were surprised.  Sorry, I just have to get that out whenever someone mentions that movie.

But I liked the plot twists in Fight Club, Memento, Psycho, Citizen Kane, and probably a bunch of others.  And the video game Chrono Cross had some incredible plot twists.

24 - S1, Nina Myers is evil. They can't do that do her that late, they just can't! Pure evil the way scriptwriters can do that sorta stuff! It does however set her up for S2 as the woman you love to hate!

24 has all the best twists, there's practically one at the end of every episode and it never gets old. I agree with Aslate on the Nina one, that was awesome. I also loved Marie shooting Reza and Sherry looking for Alex Hewitt in s2.

it's not a movie, but the video for Cradle Of Filth's "Babylon A.D." has a sweet plot twist near the end.

Oh and Noah Taylor is a really cool actor.

How about "The Luck Of the Fryrish" (3ACV04) I always thought that was a well exicuted plot twist.

I know I sound like a broken record but the whole thing in Futurama with Fry and the Nibblonians freezing him is one of my favourite plot twists ever....Makes me wonder if it was going to be revealed later on in another Season (if there was more than 4) or it was always the plan to do it the way they did....

Also there's a movie called Cube which has an unexpected/brilliant ending, I never saw it coming....

Minority Report: when you realise that John Anderton being framed is just a small detail in a much bigger web of avents. Brilliantly made, some of Spielbergs best work.

The Shawshank Redemption

The first time I saw The Matrix. I mean come on, at the time finding out the world was just virtual reality was so totaly shocking and mindblowing!
I got a simialr "wow" feeling when I first saw Fight Club.

AI: Many people don't like the suprise ending. I think it's perfect, and one of the most moving moments in film ever!

Momento is full of plot twists from start to beginning. You can be sure of what's actually happening until it's finished. Fantastic film though.

Just a couple of random ones since most of the famous ones have already been said.

Battle of Britain

Von Ryan's Express

(Guess)

I don't know if you'd call it a plot twist but

*Another Bump*

I'd have to say Donnie Darko, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (book), and Soylent Green had some good plot twists, but The Empire Strikes Back and Planet of the Apes had the best plot twists of all movies. Also of mention is Eternal Sunshine, as the whole movie has many plot twists.

The Empire Strikes Back:

Sure, these days nobody would make a big fuss about it, but back then it must have been a shock to some.

Also, The Sixth Sense.

Not really the "I can see dead people" thing, but rather that

For a tv series I would say from Bablyon 5 and the Valeen revalation, sure there were pleanty of hints but was a surprise...also makes me wonder how it would have been done if certain characters had remained in the series throughout.

You mean if Sinclair had stayed on as CO of Babylon 5 instead of being replaced by Sheridan?  I suspect that it would have been left until the end of the series.  With the time travel involved, the "War Without End" storyline could have taken place almost anytime.  Maybe it would have been the series finale.

I beleive that was the plan. I heard that bascially his story reamined unchanged they just gave it to Sheridan (thus the again in War without end would of been due to his death on Zah'adum) of course that would also of meant a relationship with Deleen...which considering who he was would be kinda wrong.

I wouldn't have thought that Sinclair would have had a relationship with Delenn.  Of course, if the story had gone that way, then Delenn probably wouldn't have turned out to be a descendant of Valen.

I've always been curious about how JMS's original five-year plan for the series must have differed from the final product, what with all the cast changes and the near-cancellation during season four.

Well i think tyey would of had a relationship, they kind of set that up in the episodes where the alian races all showed their religious festivals. Also I think should would still of had to been a decendent for the transformation to take place.

From what I have read on certain sites there would only have been a few minor changes, like the war with no end being the final episode. Another change was to have Catherine Sakai to be the one who went to Zah'adum and bieng the reason for Sinclair to go there. Since there were many parallels between Sinclair and Sheridan, both War heroes, both J.S's amonst other things.

I am also curious as to what happened to Lenier, that and what actaully happen during the Telepath war.
