Going through the 'oh god I can't find nothing but pointless t&a shows!?' phase too Wu? Nerdo: I agree with you, Akira is awesome even still today and generally makes me shiver still. The ending is much better than EoE which I just recently rewatched now I am slightly older and read the bajllion articles explaining on what the fuck was going on. Now THAT ending sucks. Somebody did a small comical half finished webcomic of that but the damn internet has swallowed it up. Goddamit, why is it so hard to find a full set of subtitled Nermima Daikon Brothers online? I'd only watch it once .

I read they made Shinji less of a little bitch and more of just a dude who isn't in the know. If they remake the End Of Eva movie bits, I do hope they tone down and his screaming. I think we got it he was being mind fucked after the first hidious blood curdling scream of terror. I also read they cut down on the Angel numbers.

I find seventies and eighties anime songs hilarious, no matter how cheesy they sound. Best one is the opening for Irresponsible Captain Tylor.

White AlbumIt's like I'm playing Season of the Sakura all over again. This show is still in production and I'm catching fansubs as they arrive. I really do not want to admit this, but this show wormed its way into my giddy but cynical heart. The show kicks off on a high note with a conversation that is suddenly drowned out by a kick ass rock guitar solo, and I dig. This turns out to be a dream, and indeed the last sight of hard rock through the entire show so far. Nuts. Well, a good job was done lining up the plot point of music, as this story involves idol singers, TV spots, and corporate record pond scum like the guys that made Nirvana a household name. Also it's revealed that the whole story happens in 1986, so you can look forward to 80's popcul references that aren't lame ham-fisted family guy attempts at humor. Yeah, that was a little bile, I know. Sound exciting? It's not. I'm serious this is the most boring thing I've ever seen about pop music, and I'm including some of the crappier Jem episodes. We got Toya, who's in your standard get-girl-game situation, surrounded by girls who want him in one way or another. The obvious true girlfriend, and resident Yamato Nadesico (Look it up) Yuki. Then there's the younger tomboy Haruka, and I'll throw in at risk of a spoiler Rina who knows that Toya and Yuki are an item, but goes in for him anyway. Yuki is a backup singer and understudy for pop sensation Rina, who's running the show. The two have a great deal of respect for one another, but Yuki's looking to step out from Rina's shadow, and Rina's looking to step into Yuki's boyfriend's pants. Now mind you, This is an anime taking place in the rockin' 80's we got record company intrigue and a conniving superstar. How the hell can this be boring. Let me tell you a little something about dating sims...no let me not. All you need to know that in a dating sim minutest, minorest most insignificant social actions have huge sway in the story. Choosing to answer a question like "Is there too much salt in this soup" could spell the difference between getting laid, or going on an boring adventure to the supermarket, and meeting a romantic rival. This same drama is translated to the series from (What I deduce is) it's BishoGame predecessor, and all of a sudden plot points deal with gripping things like cheesecake recipes and Robert Browning poetry. Plot resolution and tension occur in the realm of day to day banality. The first episode was maybe the most boring anime I've watched in a while. But I stuck it through, and in episode 3 something happened. I realized it was getting dramatic. I swear it was Hitchcockian (See Vertigo). The slow pacing has allowed for the character's situations to sink in, and what was boring and time killing becomes intrigue, and even a bit suspenseful. Well, even though it has nothing to do with the Beatles, I'll still keep watching this for a bit. I have to see what wins, the developing love story or my eye-drooping boredom.

Kanashimi no BelladonnaDid you like fantastic planet? If you said yes, then this is the movie for you. An all-watercolor tragedy infused with bizarre imagery, lots of sex and the weirdest interpretation of the Joan of Arc story ever. Jeanne wants a normal life for her and her husband, but the evil rulers of the land inflict nothing but pain and humiliation upon them. In her desperation she turns to an ever-growing incubus that grants her magical powers both helpful and hurtful. The animation is extremely (Perhaps excessively) simplistic, due in part for the use of watercolor, yet the content and beauty of the artwork make up for its blatant minimalism. This is an art house film front to back, complete with hippie montages, screen pans that rival sheets of wallpaper, and easily the most messed up orgy scene in an animated feature film. If you want some anime to make you snootier, and still have a good time watching it, check it out (I saw it on Veoh). Incidentally, Kunihiko Ikuhara named this as the key film that got him into animation, and inspiration for Utena. So surely you can expect as little down-to-earth content as possible. B
