David and Matt have both said they want to do this. It's just a matter of whether they can get it off the ground or not.

In one of David X. Cohen's interviews after the show ended its fox run, He seemed to be really optimistic about a direct to DVD video. He also had a lot of reasons why it would be a good idea from a investors point of view. The only thing that might be a problem is and "some one correct me if I'm wrong about this" but from what I understand Matt Groening and the writing staff had 100% percent control over the content but FOX "errrrr" owns the content and the name. And as we all know with out going in to detail Fox wanted this show dead, and went to every length to make sure that it happened. With Family guy, they showed more respect for the show and are doing so to this day. I personally would more then love to see the Futurama Franchise turn in to a movie, or better yet as Matt Groening would sugest a trilogy of movies but with fox having the final say I just don't see it happening.

I dont think there will be a movie. It would be nice but there just isn't enough money. And sadly, I doubt it would draw as big as it cost. Futurama was just too smart for some people.

They're also making a movie out of the horrible, overrated Firefly.

It's funny, though! Can't a few people appreciate it for it's adult humor, witty content, and diverse characters? Not to mention the action, romance, special effects, and the wonderful staff that put it together!
Plus, Futurama's got fans all around the world!
I like to see both sides of the argument, even if my opinion is already strongly formed. In you people's defense, a quote from Bender Should Not Be Allowed On TV. Executive Gamma said something...
"It's funny, but will it get them off their tractors?"
It'll get me off my tractor! That is if I had a tractor... well, thats a downside of living in the San Francisco area, there's nothing to tractor! (except jaywalkers, hehehe)

Well, it wouldn't be impossible now, since I understand that another show that got short shrift from FOX, Firefly, is currently under production to be a theatrical film, and it isn't FOX that's doing it, but Universal, to whom FOX sold the right to. If that can happen, then it gives me hope that maybe Aol/Time-Warner would think about buying the full rights of Futurama. After all, Fox may hate the show, but, if there's a chance that they could make at least a decent profit from it, they'd take it. They may well think that a movie would only be a cult hit. (But all of us know better, since we'd all take our families with us.)

The sad truth of the matter is that the fate of a Futurama movie rests in the hands of Fox. If the rights to Futurama were with a company that DIDN'T have it's head so far up it's ass it comes out it's mouth (yes, I'm aware that's physcially impossible, but still - it's pretty funny ) then the movie would probably be in production by now. If David and Matt can convince Fox to let them do a movie, then there's no doubt they'd do it.
