The Guardian
Speaking of honest titling, it's about time they came up with a new name for the equally patronising Bo' Selecta(Fri, 10.45pm, C4) - something that better reflects the show's contents. Something like Witless Pipdribble, perhaps, or Astronomically Dismal, or just plain Shit.

Earlier this year, I sat on the Bafta jury for Best Comedy Programme. Bo' Selecta didn't win, but it was one of the four final nominees. Why? Because the rules stipulated there had to be four nominees. No one really wanted Bo' Selecta to be there. That's how bad it is.

(For what it's worth, I wanted Harry Hill's TV Burp to get the recognition it deserves, but the rest of the panel considered it worse than Bo' Selecta - the philistines. They also outvoted me by nominating BBC2's Double Take, perhaps the most dismally pompous "comedy" series I've ever seen.)

Anyway, what's wrong with Bo' Selecta? How long is a piece of string? It's just amazingly, hideously, unacceptably, reason-defyingly awful: a 45-minute vomit of mirthless swearing and canned laughter, aimed squarely at the kind of cow-brained retard who spends 98% of their waking life wondering which ringtone to download next. We should be rounding these people up and chemically neutering them, not broadcasting shows in their honour.

Perhaps most frustrating of all, there are some GENUINELY funny ideas amidst all the crap. It was funny once (and precisely once) to see Craig David talking with an unlikely northern accent and caring for a pet kestrel. But that seems like a very long time ago, and now all we're left with is a worthless, offensively feeble show that purports to mercilessly skewer the cult of celebrity, but actually crawls along behind it on hands and knees, begging to kiss its bumhole clean.

Ooooh, pleeeease Patsy Kensit - will you appear on our show? In a series of crashingly unfunny sketches? So you haven't got a comic bone in your body - so what? You're faaaamooousss, mmm, mmm, kissy kissy kiss kiss.

Christ, it's just plain EMBARRASSING. If I worked on Bo' Selecta, and my parents asked me what I did for a living, I'd lie and say I sat in a dustbin giving blowjobs for pennies. Just to retain some dignity.

This article made me laugh and is quite true. It kind of makes me feel ashamed for liking the programme.
Sorry for the bump.

I agree with that article.

For me, it's going downhill fast.

The reason is, that Leigh Francis is now more famous than any of the celebrities he lampoons, therefore it negates the joke.

This is the same thing which happened with Ali G, a one-joke character which was great to begin with, but became really old really quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Leigh Francis was offered a movie.

Yep, series 3 has really gone downhill. Now you just get Avid Merrion saying how bad the show is, how they have none of their own material, etc. I don't really want to see a 4th series...

I'd agree here, I have only liked a few bits of the third series but have been ultimately quite disappointed with it.

Well I agree with you guys here. It has been going downhill and it has become unfunny. The only parts that I like from the show are Mel B with Patsy Kensit and Michael Jackson. I think they gone well over the top with Nadia transsexual jokes (I find it funny at first but now I am sick of it with Nadia with the hanging balls). I am well happier by watching the series 1 and 2 on DVD because they are well funnier then series 3.

Almost  :) The DA who's prosicuting him is being forced to testify in his own trial on Monday 16th (that's almost unheard of). Basically it's been revieled that this whole thing is a vendetta against MJ, and the DA has comited illegal searches, bullied witness's....
This whole thing is slowly but surely falling apart. If you try to put an international superstar behind bars for being a child molester, it helps to have something called evidence BEFORE you announce it to the world media and rush into a trial  :laff:

Back on topic. I like Bo Selecta but it's just too patchy and inconsistant to watch every week. The best scetches are Craig Davis, MJ, and Frodo/Gollum. Many sketches are just painfully unfunny though.

What's with the name? I saw one or two episodes and it sort of surprised me what people can get away with in the UK as long as it's past nine... A bit annoying that it's nothing like that in the US (...aside from how Futurama used to air at seven...) even if this particular show wigs me out.

It reminds me of Conan O'Brien's absurdity ("isn't that right cactus chef playing 'We Didn't Start the Fire' on the flute?) but I couldn't tell, is it an actual talk show or just a bunch of sketches thrown together?

Has anybody saw a Bear’s Tail last night on Channel 4? I thought it was OK but it wasn't as good as the last Bo Selecta series. It was sort of OK now that this time it hasn't focus on Avid Merrion I like it when they focus on the bear this time. I wonder if they use CGI for this series because the special effects was quite good.

The one thing that surprised me about this series was Davina McCall's performance as a woman changed man transsexual named Dave. I prefer her hosting Big Brother than this.

Personally, I think Leigh Francis has had his day.  It's like, the joke is over.  The last series of Bo Selecta was the poorest of the three.

Also, it's coming to something when the puppet version of Craig David is more famous than the real one.
