Jason X

I kinda liked this movie.  It didn't have any lameass love sub plot and pretty much narrowed down to Jason slaughtering everyone in sight. It was still kinda cool to see how certain events turned out and some of the humor was funny.  I probably won't want to see it again.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

It was good, but I wouldn't want to watch it a second time. It 's quite a nightmare.

4 Rooms

This was a weird movie.  It 's about a bellboy on New Years ' Eve who runs into all kinds of weird things. He even gets $ 1000 for chopping off a guys pinky finger.

So, HJS, The Matrix is a worse movie than, say, Freddy Got Fingered?

See it (or don't, coz it sucks utterly), then make your judgement.

Then again, I'm biased coz I love The Matrix.

Spirited Away
What can I say?  Wow.  That is an awesome movie.  It was only playing in one place in the whole state, so we went downtown to see it and it was sold out on Saturday.  So instead we got advance tickets for today and I was blown away.  I mean, that is a wonderful movie.  It's so quirky and twisted, but I love it.  It's kind of like the Japanese equivilent of "Alice in Wonderland", only it's even more kooky.  The only thing I didn't like was that there was no point in Lin telling Chihiro someday she was going to take the bus away from the bathhouse because even when Chihiro had one extra train ticket, she gave it to that freaky spirit, No Face, instead of her mentor.  What an ungrateful little brat.  ;)   Anyway, go see this movie!  It's definitely one of my favorites.  For some reason, I left the theater thinking, "I feel like watching 'Ghost World'."  Then again, I'm always in the mood to watch "Ghost World."
Final Grade: A+

all of those scenes you mentioned can be seen just by watching the trailer, and the television show is much better than the movie.
only good part was the opening scene, most of which can be seen on the trailer anyway.

Red Dragon

Very good film. In my opinion it was actually better than Silence of The Lambs, and from what Ive heard of it, Hannibal. The main lead roles, of the detective and Red Dragon were pretty damn good.
Kinda creepy in places, for example when examining the victems house, and also a tad at the ending. In fact, any parts with Red Dragon were scary.

K-PAX: I love this movie, and there's some pretty good acting. They also use big words  :D And, um, did I mention there was an alien and a psychiatric institute? No, but seriously, if you haven't seen it, do it.....You want a reason? Don't have one now, because I'm doing something...

xXx

If you go and see this movie, remember to dis-engage your brain on the way in - you won't be needing it.  Then you'll enjoy it.

Ridiculous plot (which is secondary to all of the outrageous stunts which are going on), ridiculous script, some dodgy acting on the part of Vin Diesel and Asia Argento - AND Samuel L Jackson!!, and some cornball lines.

The director also has dumbed it down just so you don't miss anything (ie: cut to some weapon which Vinnie may find useful, cut back to action, cut back to weapon, back to action, back to weapon (hey audience, have you seen it yet?), back to action, and so on.)

But overall and apart from all that, I enjoyed it.  The set-pieces are fantastic, the soundtrack rocks (look-out for appearances by Rammstein and Orbital), and it was good fun.  3/5

GATTACA

This is a piece of art.  If you liked George Orwell ‘s 1984 (the book) and Minority Report, you should also see this.  It has a strong plot, and really makes you think about ethics in science and society.

It has performances by many good actors, like Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Lauren Dean, and there are some surprising turns in the plot.

I also like the scenery and locations.
The movie has many  aspects of the 50’s, like the members of Gattaca  who are dressed like FBI-agents (or M.I.B.) from those years; other people are also dressed in retro fashion; the retro design cars;  certain “nazi” ideals that still existed in those years ,but now, the Übermenschen have been replaced by a genetically enhanced elite.

I also like the clever wordplays and puns. “GenEthics, “DeGenerate”, GATTACA (guanine, adenine, thiamine,  cytosine, …), Eugene (one of the characters), Jerome (sounds an awful lot like “genome”, doesn’t it?), and so on.

Here is another review. And here is the story.

The DVD also has many extra features. Rent it some time.

The Ring: As Venus said, it was pretty good. In the beginning it was really cool, middle got more suspenseful, but the end sucked. The acting wasn't exactly the best I've ever seen, but it wasn't bad. And last, the movie was more eerie than scary. I give it a 7.5

Signs

After about a month of it sitting dormant on my harddrive, I decided to finally get around to seeing it, and, wow! I probably should have watched it earlier. The film is a lot like M. Night Shamaylan's other films, both in tone and acting, and whether you liked "The Sixth Sense" or "Unbreakable", that could be a good or bad thing.

For some reason, I thought it would make a kick-ass radio play. It is very "War of the Worlds"-ish. The pacing is good, and the build isn't as slow as the trailers made it out to be. Plus, even though some of the effects seem kind of cheesy, you will just stand in awe of the saucer lights and the Brazilian birthday sequence.

The only problem is that the movie rushes to a conclusion too fast, which is fine, I suppose, because the plot is really about Mel Gibson's character's loss and redeeming of his faith. However, the 'outside world' plot just sort of halts dead.

Probably an 8 out of 10.

has anyone seen Punch drunk love? and if so would you like to review it for me? thanks :-*

I saw Red Dragon this past weekend.  It was definately not as good as Silence of the Lambs. I actually kinda liked Hanibal (once i got over stupid julianne moore and her non-jodie foster-ness) because I am a sick pervert.  However I thought that Red Dragon was a bit too perverted.  In fact I am 9 years old and when the blind lady is groping the tiger I shouted "oh god, she's a pervert"  --I couldnt really see what that had to do with the plot, the tiger crotch grabbing close up.  I'm sure all you perverts are going to rush out and see it now though.  The end was sorta good, but it seemed a little too "special effectsy" for a "Hanibal Lector" movie.... I duno.  And how the hell did they pull off that switch-a-roo?

VF, you're only 9 years old? Damn, then who are those pictures of?

I'll probably see Punch Drunk Love eventually, only because my one friend from high school saw it and loved it. His raving did make me interested, but, then again, I did hate Magnolia (see "modern art thread" ), but I do love Luis Guzman (strange inside joke) films. So, maybe they'll balance each other out.

I liked it a lot, but the end was surprisingly long, and maybe a bit far fetched. Also, there are a lot of mistakes in it. Look here for some of them.

I've actually heard some good stuff about Jackass the movie, even though I think it should go direct to video.

Wind Talkers: It was pretty cool, and a good story. Though not entirely historicly accurate, it got most of it down. There were plenty of good action scenes and our favorite: Explosions  :D It's a typical war movie though, you know, the main character, the outkast, hillbilly, comedian, greek guy...you know. Overall I give it a 7.3

Genius. Has the great feeling Tarantino keeps with his movies. Has nice action. Very funny without making jokes (a lot like Pulp Fiction). And ends up perfect.

Fool. You're supposed to see the classic, critically-acclaimed movie before you see the cheap spoof of it, not the other way around.

Admittedly, being a fan of The Exorcist, the beginning of Scary Movie 2 was the only part I found remotely funny about the entire film.
