Thinner

I'm taking advantage of free HBO by watching lots of crappy movies. The night before last night, I saw Thinner. The only thing "thin" about it, was its story! Ha...ha...ha...ha. Oh and also it was about a guy who kept getting thinner.

But anyway, yeah. The story seems better suited for an episode of Tales From The Crypt than an actual movie. Despite all its lameness, the movie redeems itself with a finale that revolves around an evil gypsy pie. As a die-hard pie fan, I respected this movie.

Austin Powers 3

It was funnier than the commercials indicated, I'll give it that. But I think it's the worst Austin Powers movie so far. There was just too much annoying crap. Aside from the Austinpussy thing, the celebrity cameos were really annoying(Britney sucks, of course, but even the Osbournes fell flat), and a lot of jokes went on for too long/or were made really annoyingly obvious.

The subtitle bit was funny by itself. Why did Austin have to read it, and then point out the joke, and then keep doing it? It was just stupid.

Also, Dr. Evil wasn't as cool in this one. Mike Meyers tried too hard to make him goofy.

The friends who saw it with me both said it was funnier than the other two movies. It's official...I am the only non-crazy person on earth.

Metropolis

This anime has quite a lot of references to Akira:  Governement conspiracy, the governement wants to obtain some kind of super-energy  , but they don't understand it, the destruction of the city, even the sun beaming down on the surivors after the destruction.  It had some references to Lawnmower Man in it too.

Another thing that annoyed me was the drawing style.  All the anime characters looked like something from old style manga.

Men in Black 2
I really liked this film. Although the plot was very similar to the first one, I still had a jolly good laugh. I annoyed my friends by telling them what was gonna happen (I had seen it in Germany 2 weeks earlier) but obviously this time I understood it better.

"J, you're back!" "Somebody said you were dead!"

The aliens were brilliant!

Men In Black 2

I have to say I really didnt like this, despite loving the first one. For one, the jokes weren't really very funny, and were made too obvious and silly. Also, I felt the plot was stupid and hard to understand. The dog was annoying, lots of the effects were badly done, and in-fact the only thing I can say that was good about it was the woman in the nice bra  :).
This is definately a sell-out movie, more geared towards younger children I think, and over-doing previously funny jokes.
2 out of 5

Austin Powers 3
As FJ said not as good as the other 2 previous A.P films. However, I thought it was quite good, but as with Men In Black I felt it sold out a bit.
Some hilarious moments, but not many.
3 and a half/5

Resident Evil
Finally saw it yesterday... I played the first game on a friends Sony PS and it was cool. The movie was really good. It was pretty scary, because it was like the game, the corridors held all sorts of possibilities. The mutant dogs in the commercial were there for maybe 5 1/2 minutes. One scene maybe. Thats what I expected though, and it was good as they would have gotten dull. The premise was good, staying rather true to the game, as much as possible. The music was really good too, I was surprised that it was co-scored by Marilyn Manson. The DVD extras were cool, including the making of, costumes, music, zombies, etc.

Overall, 9/10.

So...Does anyone else know any movies with exploding heads?  Preferably not MIB or MIIB.

Would this be worth a topic?

Cube is a classic. I have it on DVD. It's one of my very favorite 'metaphor movies'.

Anyway, it's 'retarded'. If you're going to go around espousing meathead terms, at least spell them correctly.

Actually Ben, I believe the term 'retarted' is acceptable on message boards. Though on the other hand, 'homerjaysimpson' was referring to a person who is, in the literal sense, 'retarded'. Therefore you are correct in your correction of 'homerjaysimpson''s poor choice of phrasing. Although, the dictionary proves that 'retarded' would be the correct term for this character, so if 'homerjaysimpson' had not made that unfortunate spelling mistake, it would not have been a 'meathead term', as you so distinctly put it.

You're all nuts.

I'd like to take this opportunity to DEMAND[/u] (Ooooh, underlined AND bold, he must be serious) that anyone who has not seen Monty Python's: Search For The Holy Grail, go steal, rent, borrow, pillage it and watch it until your eyes burst from laughter.

One of the things I like about The Holy Grail is the fact that I can mimic almost all the voices - (in particular the Knights who say Ni  ;) ), so even when I'm not watching it, I can still have a laugh by repeating all the lines of it. The fun never stops at my house!  :D

I would think that Sphere would be a better movie than Cube, just based on the orb-shapedness of Sphere.

I think the bit where they break into song for no reason takes some beating.  Yeah, I've lent my copy of Billy Madison to my mate, and now I want it back to watch again.

You've got Hackman, Devito starring - Mamet writing & directing.  This equates to one fantastic movie right ?

THE LAST CASTLE with Redford & the guy from the Sopranos (sorry don't know his name).  It reminded of LOCK UP (Stallone/Sutherland), but a lot more intelligent.  While I'm on the subject, D-TOX (maybe called something else in the US) with Stallone, Robert Patrick and others in a DETOX centre for burnt out cops is very silly but suprisingly OK.
