The Hot Topic at the mall near my work got the DVD in today.  I strolled by after work and picked up a copy.  Most Hot Plopics probably have it by now, so call them up and find out.  Time to start watching.

Get off the DVD talk! (My decoder is R2- shite).

I've always wondered how many of the more low-key jokes slip by unnoticed. For instance: When I watched The Nightmare Begins, I laughed at completely different jokes than the ones who were also present. "Twist those knobs! Twist those knobs!! You- Pull some levers! Pull some levers!!" and "Yeeeaah- and he is sitting" and the little things such as the icecream truck and the toilet in the kitchen. For some reason I heard no laughter except from mine (which was plenty insane for all of us).

So I guess my question is: What are your favourite Zim jokes- the openly bizarre or the more background-ish ones?

I prefer the humor that is more of a situational thing. Sometime's I'll laugh at something like the toilet in the kitchen more than something like a gag with a punchline. Zim Eats Waffles is still the best episode ever made, though, and I hope it's released on DVD.

I like that fact that the school is just called "Skool". What a band name for anything.

@ EvilLunch: Yes, "ZIM Eats Waffles" is a great episode, and yes it will be released on DVD on Volume 3. Just to clear it up once and for all, ALL episodes, aired or unaired, will be on DVD.
Yeah, the lines of episodes are great, but it's those little details that are great. Such as the aforementioned ice cream truck.
"You like ice cream. You like ice cream. You love it. You can not live without ice cream. Your existence is meaningless without ice cream."
Ain't it the truth...

I am not really a fan of Hot Topic and don't want to help them out in anyway, so I guess I will just order it online or hope that Boarders has it.

The Zim DVDs are going to be awesome.

Luckily, that's not to far away. Unluckily, I can't wait that long. Also, why weren't some episodes aired on t.v.?

I think it was just because Invader Zim got canceled. They made too many episodes and Nick just halted the show, so they have a bunch of ones that are finished but never made it to air.

Heh. I thought I explained this before, but I guess I didn't. Well, when ZIM was cancelled, Jhonen came to Nick asking for one more episode to air which would show all they could do. Nick accepted, and they took "Most Horrible Xmas Ever," which was originally supposed to be produced toward the end of Season 2 and made that. Minimoose had an origin in season 2, and was in "Xmas," so they added the line, "That's Minimoose, my honored sidekick. ...yep, been with me the whole time." to kinda explain his existence. But there were still 6 episodes that were completed and were doomed to sit on the shelf forever. Which were...
Backseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars
The Girl Who Cried Gnome / Dibship Rising
Vindicated! / Voting of the Doomed
Mortos Der Soul Stealer / ZIM Eats Waffles
Gaz, Taster of Pork
The Frycook What Came From All That Space
The eps have aired in Europe and have made their way online, but never on American TV. But now, thanks to DVD, Volume 3 will have the unaired episodes (and eps 19-21) for you to cherish and love! Yay!

Check TVtome's Zim section. It has a summary of all the episodes, even some that were never aired anywhere:

This is a great site for any TV show, Futurama, Zim, Family Guy, ANYTHING!

I just saw an episode on Nick where Zim has Mars as a spaceship.  It was funny, but I think it was a rip-off of Futurama.  I'm not a big fan of the show, and I didn't expect it to last anyway.

The only thing I dislike about the DVD so far is there is no episode selection menu.  On the main menu you get a "Play All" and then a "Chapter Selection" option, plus an audio menu and extras.
If you want to select individual episodes you have to scroll through the chapter selections.   It's kind of a pain in the ass to have to do that.  I wish they would have done it with a menu format similar to the Futurama DVDs.

I didn't want to bother opening a new thread for this, but I found a cool Invader Zim font and downloaded it. Now how do I use it?

It upset me that they played the mars episode because I like this show, but I never got to see much of it, and of the four or five episodes I've seen, the episode they showed is the only one I remember! I don't want to spend money on a DVD if I don't know if I'll like it.

Find the file in My Computer or Explorer or whatever you want. Right-click it, and click "Install" on the menu that pops up. Failing that, just copy it to the folder C:\Windows\Fonts. You should be able to use it in any program that lets you use fonts.

That is assuming you use Windows. Otherwise, I can't help.

Gir: Mmmmhmmmm....
The bootleg DVDs I got have all the unaired eps EXCEPT Gaz, Taster of Pork; Girl who Cried Gnome and Dipship Rising. Has anyone seen these episodes? Are they as classic as, say, Frycook? [I've read some mighty disturbing fanfiction about THAT'un, yessir; can't say it was entirely bad either]

BUMP
Finally amazon got me my DVD! And I have to say, it is pretty sweet. It, of course, has the first 9 half-hour episodes on two discs, and the episodes are, of course (again), great. There's audio commentaries for almost all episodes with Vasquez, Trueheart, Horvitz, Simmons, Bergman, Koening, and more people too. It's not Futurama-level commentary, but it's still interesting. There are also animatics for almost all episodes as well, which is really interesting and fun to watch. There's Irken subtitles (not that great, but still amazing that they'd take the time to do that), and the pilot episode with/without commentary, with our very own Billy West doing the original voice of ZIM. All and all, this is a great DVD. But with all those people downloading the episodes, this DVD could be doomed to sit on the shelves. This horrible tragedy can be avoided if and only if you surrender your money and BUY THIS DVD!

Somehow I doubt Nickelodeon's going to advertise this. We all know how crappy that network's gotten over the years, and there seems to be no opportunity for Zim to come back, ever. It's not child-friendly enough for networks like Nickelodeon or Disney, but too childish to be a sitcom. What do you do with a show like that?

Maybe Cartoon Network...

Eh, I don't know.  There are some people who will never pay for anything because they can get it for free, but I think this DVD will sell well.  There are a lot of extras on the DVD and it's well priced.  I got it for $20 from Hot Topic a couple of weeks ago and their prices tend to be high.  I bet it will be cheaper at stores like Best Buy, etc.  Anyways, buy it!

It's not super hard to find, go to amazon.com, buy.com, bestbuy.com .. or just go to Walmart, or Bestbuy and pick it up..

Zim rules, and I did not know that MTV had a hand in making it.

Oh and if anyone cares, the guy who does Zim's voice is the same as Daggett's on The Angry Beavers. (Another great show canceled because it was too good. Crapilodeon, Release the show already, you nazi bastards)

I would hope this is as obvious to everyone else as it was to me seeing as it's the same voice...and it's his talking voice.
