Stuff that happens as jokes or innuendos for mature audiences, it seems to happen all the time.

Like in Powerpuff Girls, Ms. Bellum lives on 69th Street or something like it.

Johnny Bravo sure says "I like pie!" a lot. I wonder if it's the same kind the Rock likes...

Maybe it's the same kind of pie the Merovingian served up in the Matrix Reloaded!  ;)

It's been quite a few years, but I'll never forget how Sam & Max got away with castrating a main villain on saturday morning tv.

"Look at him now, he's so nice!"

"A couple of well-placed snips really curbed that agressive streak!"

Zim has some things that are surprising like the episode when Zim had annoying friend, he remedied this situation by tearing out the kids eyes and replacing them with mechanical ones so the kid would ignore Zim.

Rocko's modern life had many inuendos about one or two every episode.

PPG gets away with a lot. I remember this one episode where Bubbles and Buttercup are arguing over the gender of a squirrel, and at the end, you can clearly hear Bubbles say "Squirrels EAT nuts!"

Lots of gay jokes are pointed at Squidward, Spongebob, and Patrick on Spongebob Squarepants. One I remember is:

Spongebob: The robots have taken over the navy!
Squidward: Not the navy!
(He said it in a Smithers loves Burn sort of way)

I remember reading in an interview with Craig Bartlett that the writers of Hey Arnold! were always trying to stick in dirty jokes in the script.  He said it was especially bad in "Synchronized Swimming", but Nick toned them down.  There's still plenty of sexual references in that episode and others though.
Invader Zim also has many darker, not-kid friendly parts.  In one of my favorite episodes, Gaz imagines dragging her brother home after his organs have been turned outside.  Kinda gross.  I think Jhonen Vasquez also said Nick made them cut something out of the episode where Keef wanted to be Zim's friend.  There was supposed to be one scene where Zim got rid of Keef by shoving him onto an electric fence.  I can't remember if they just cut that sequence or if they took it all the way out, as I haven't seen IZ in ages.  :(

I've interviewed Jhonen Vasquez (I'm a big fan of his comics) and he said that there was going to be a sequel to that episode where Kif tries to make Zim and Dib friends because he wants to be friends with oth of them. Well Zim and Dib are both annoyed by Kif so they devise a plan to get rid of him. They develop something ( I'm pretty sure it was gum or candy) that when Kif eats he'll explode. Kif eats it and he explodes. Little bits of Kif's organs and other body parts fly everywhere including what looks like a piece of his stomach fying into a kid's mouth. Zim and Dib are so happy they high-five each other and seeing that he's brought Zim and Dib together all the little pieces of him fly back together. (Jhonen said that the stomach piece flew back out of the kids mouth if you watch closely). Not surprisingly this episode was cut and now that IZ is cancelled it'll prbably never be shown.

Kryten: I agree, they get away with a lot in The Powerpuff Girls. In the episode where the professor has a date, there's a sequence in which the girls are getting him ready and saying stuff like "you'll need this" etc. It goes by pretty fast, but you can see Buttercup put something in his top pocket with the line "and a couple of these!"... The implication is clearly that they're condoms.

Or maybe i've got a dirty mind.

Ralph Bakshi's wonderful Mighty Mouse show was essentially canned because of a controversy surrounding the 'special powers' that came from characters snorting a certain flower.

Sad too; that show was hilarious.

Oh yeah, how can I forget that duo Sam & Max? In one episode, they were in the sewer, and Max said "aww, look at the baby alligators drifting by" and Sam says, "I don't think those are baby alligators."

In PPG the girls met Major Glory and the other dudes like Val Halan. Some big red car came and then later, when they were fighting and stuff (the guys), the car guy said "THE MORE MANHOOD YOU BRING ME THE HARDER I BECOME." 'Nuff said.

Speaking of Invader Zim, how about the episode where Zim keeps stealing kids organs and replacing them with other things? Near the end, whenever he opens his mouth to reveal all the organs he has is pretty gross.

The gore, twisted humour, and the fact that you were supposed to cheer for the villian is what made Zim such a great show. Better than anything else Nick's dished out in the past four years. Spongebob is a close second. I guess I'm just a big fan of Vasquez.

HypnoToad: No-one is watching the Powderpuff Girls, for that show does not exist.

However, I did like the South Park reference in the Powerpuff Girls ep where the imaginary friend is wrecking up the place... When Blossom goes flying into the coats, she emerges wearing Cartman's outfit and even says "Seriously".

That's on topic, right? As SP is supposedly 'bad stuff' in the eyes of Parental Fascism Groups.

It seems strange to see some of the references in cartoons these days.  Still, I remember watching old H/B shows in the sixties like Johnny Quest, where the bad guys died on a regular basis, as well as some of the older sixties adventure 'toons'.  It was during the 80's that GIJOE started to show that you could fire a weapon at any thing and hit nothing except the robots, and that the bad guys would survive almost anything that would kill regular people.

I'm glad that IZ, and some of the other shows are trying to push the envelope, I'm curious as to how the new Ren and Stimpy show will turn out, as its supposed to be a more adult themed show.

I remember seeing a Dial M for Monkey episode that later was actually banned by Cartoon Network because it featured an enormous gay stereotype called "The Silver Spooner."

I've watched some old episodes on Cartoon Network, and I was surprised that even though no one dies, they can still say "kill" and "die," something you actually can't do on a lot of cartoons.

I was always surprised at the amount of violence they could get away with the Itchy and Scratchy cartoons. Even though it was a 'cartoon within a cartoon', it's still incredibly violent and shown at prime time nonethless. What hypocrits Fox are to complain the suicide booths aren't suitable, but a mouse hacking apart a cat is...

This is true. In a scene I can't believe they put on Nickeldoeon, Gary walks into the den and Spongebob is watching some sort of sea animal asexually reproduce. When Spongebob sees Gary he quickly turns it to a football game, I believe he covers himself up with a pillow (I might be wrong on that one), and says: "Heh heh just uh...watching football."

That bit in Shrek when Lord Farquat (whatever) is in bed, drinking champaggen and looking at the picture of Princess Fiona, then just before the scene cuts, you see him lifting up the blanket an looking down at his crotch.
Brilliant.

In "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" there is a scene where the baby character gets upset and walks off-stage. He goes under a woman and says something (All I can remember was he used the word toots). A nerdy little movie friend of mine told me if your pause it while he's going under the woman you can see him sticking his middle finger up and thrusting it up into the woman's skirt. I checked and it's true. He has a little devlish look on his face when he's doing it too. There's also a scene (I noticed this myself) where the detective first goes into the toon nightclub. Upon entering, we see Daffy Duck and Donald Duck dueling pianos. You can hear Donald call Daffy a N****R. This is a joke about how Daffy is a black duck while Donald is a white duck. (I'm in no way, shape, or form a racist) My nerdy movie friend also told me there's a scene where Jessica Rabbit is nude for one frame. Haven't been able to find it though.

That's a well-known story, but I don't think it's true.  Donald just mumbles something incomprehensible, as he usually does.  Go here for an explanation and an audio clip of the line.

Aw come on, phallic symbols getting snuck into Spongebob? That's over sensative, if you wanted to obsess there are phallic symbols in every show, you can't tell me animators are sneaking them in there for the hell of it.
