You know how it is, you're going to see a movie you've waited ages to see.  You saw the trailer way back and it looked like it's gonna rock.  But you finally see it, and it's a complete dog!

What gives?

You ever seen a movie-trailer, read a review, or just thought that a movie's gonna be great, only to be enormously disappointed when you finally see it.

Tell all here.

Yes, ET, most over-hyped film I've seen.

I remember going to see the movie "No Man's Land" awhile back, and being completely stupefied. Before seeing the film in the theater, I had seen a trailer for it on some other DVD. For some reason or another, the US really has a hard time adapting foreign trailers for the states, and the preview portrayed the movie to be some sort of comedy. If anyone else out there has seen the particular trailer I'm speaking of, I'm sure they understand. It was a great movie, but I was pretty surprised to see that it was pretty much completely different from the "theme" that was portrayed in the trailer.

Godzilla was a real disappointment.
They had this teaser trailer, where Godzilla's foot crushed the skeleton of the T-Rex and I laughed and thought, wow, sounds like fun and then, a year later, well everyone probably knows that the film sucked...

Domestic Disturbance with John Travolta although, admittedly, I didn't think it was gonna rock.

Me, Myself, and Irene. It was so stupid. Advice: never pay to see a Jim Carrey/Adam Sandler/Robin Williams movie.

xXx - Vin Diesel, Rammstein, Girls, Guns, Car chases and explosions.  What we got was hammy acting and weak script - annoying.

Johnny Mnemonic - intriguing, Keanu could do no wrong after Speed.  WRONG!  Worst, film, ever!

I had high expectations for AI, Die Another Day, and Austin Powers 2 which were all helplessly crushed before the final credits rolled.

Yeah, the Matrix is awesome and surpassed it's 'hype' by miles!

Well, when I watched The Mummy Returns I thought the Scorpion King bits were damn cool. So off we duly go to see the movie... and oh my god, unclean... unclean...!!!! It couldn't have BEEN much worse and was absolutely nothing like I'd expected. I thought it was gonna be about when he was dead and was actually the scorpion king... not some idiotic romp with a naked chick!

Going down ever lower than that is Scooby Doo. I like Matthew Lillard (I think I've got the name right...?) and Sarah Michelle Gellar, and I bloody love Scooby Doo, so why not, I thought... And at the end it was more like, 'why....? why....?!!!!' My boyfriend has to restrain me from scraping my eyes out. Worst movie ever. Its only saving grace being Lillard's excellent impression of Shaggy.

I have to agree with Episode 2 - I was not hugely dissapointed, but it could have been better. The trailer was dark and mysterious, the movie...wasn't really.

I quite liked Episode 2 actually. Apart from the awful dialogue in the romance scenes :/

Titanic, Blair Witch Project and Armageddon all had tons of hype when they came out and wasted six hours of my life.

Speaking of overhyped films, "The Blair Witch Project" comes to my mind.

However, you have to admire the makers of that film for making everyone believe that they would have to see this piece of **** in order to be cool or something...

Haven't seen The Blair Witch Project yet, and I don't intend to. The trailor was good (pretending it's a true story) but after everyone's hype, I really don't think I'm going to like it.

Independance Day - Yuk! I spent the whole time saying about jut how dumb everyone in that flim was... all the aliens and people and everything. I didn't see the end, but ugh!

Die Another Day - Halle Berry is mmm, but apart from that it was way too action packed, and just not as good as the other Brosnan films.

My grand title goes to Lord of the Rings though, not necessarily because it was a bad film. Infact despite the length it was well made and everything, but it was hyped by everyone, and overhyped to death by my friends, so when I eventually saw it I was just left thinking "Why does everyone in the world love this film so much??", and my butt hurt. I think no matter how great LotR was, after the hype I was put through I was never going to like it.

All the fancy schmansy special FX cannot for one second cover up, or distract one's attention from the fact that Keanu Reeves is one piss poor actor.  BTW...WTF was that movie about?

Ahh the Matrix one of the most stupid movies ever made. With plot hoels so big that the Star ship eneterprise coukld fit in it.. There have been clever and inginous films over the years this is not one of them. It is not clever adn the whole premise is flawed (humans are not an effective power source why didn't they use nucular or something stupid machines)

The matrix was For the 90's what, Tron was for the 80's, by the way Tron 2 is coming out, so we'll just see. I really liked The MAtrix, not just because the special effects and action i saw more to it than that.

You all dont seem to realise what ive known all along. Its anticipation that kills the experience. And the movie Makers know this, but they dont care. All thats important is gettin as many People into the Cinemas in the Opening weekend as posible. BEcause thats how they measure the success, any profits made afterwards, to them at least, is just an anti-climax.

Thats why they hype it up something shocking. I never like to talk to people about movies, since then they'll ruin it for me, im Cinematicaly Celebate, i only ever find out about movies from trailers, the newspaper, and Posters. Theres a massive game of One-up-manship being played and once in a while a movie that did something bold and interesting falls flat on its face, because it doesnt have enough mass market appeal.

I must say i love all Jim Carrey (in fact the truman show is on now) films, hes just really funny.

And I got really hyped up about independance day, and bought the video the first  day it came out. In retrospct, Blockbuster Stole $40 of my money. Piece of filth was just patriotic dribble, much like blackhawk down. I think theres a reason ive never seen independance day on commercial TV.

Edit: Wu they used that for Metaphorical effect. Also who knows, youll probably find that out in the next movies, theres probably a war going on, so anything that advanced would be vunerable to attack. I posted a link reagrding that before, but ill post it again The Matrix and Quantum Consciousness
