AICN has posted Cartoon Network's 2003/4 programming initiatives (here). Some decent shows are coming back, the anime/Scooby-Doo addiction continues, and George Lucas is trying once again to embarrass himself. Venture Brothers wasn't picked up, unfortunately. And, although it's no surprise, there's no Futurama-related news here. Like many of you, I would gladly guy this list and fill the airtime with test patterns if it meant CN could produce another lot of Futurama episodes, but CN doesn't agree with us.

Anyway, check this out. Somebody's been convinced the genre's profitable....

* LowBrow, an action-comedy series in which a 20-something slacker with a customized 80-foot robot from the future must defend all of humanity from evil aliens, debuts in December 2003.

Woo! Lowbrow's coming! I LOVED that short!

But have you seen those designs for "Teen Titans"? Ick.

I've seen some of the designs, yes. I don't think I'll watch it, as I've never been terribly interested in the Titans. Junior superhero teams just seems too gimmicky. They should find some cash to hire decent animators and just adapt the better comic one-shots/arcs into minis. Kingdom Come, Arkham Asylum, Death of Superman through Reign, DKR (please no DKSA), Sword of Azrael ....

Wow... Kenshin on Toonami... I have a fealing that they will not have the OAVs as movies some Friday   :).

Looks like CN is doing great, a lot of new good shows and a bunch of great shows from WB.( Jakie Chan is way too good for its premice and X-men Evolution takes a while to get going but by the 3rd season it is surprisingly good.)

::edit::
read through the comments... some of them were the usuall AICN fanboy rantings but they had a link for a pic from the new Starwars. Funny I am now more exited for the Tartakovsky clips then I am for Episode III.

Fuck! I've always been excited by the idea of a prequel-era Star Wars cartoon, but I think this looks like crap. Fucking Tartakovsky. Samurai Jack started out promising, but soon became the most boring show ever. And his designs just don't work for Star Wars, in my opinion.

Why do all new CN cartoons have to look like Tartakovsky? What happened to the originality and variety?

As long as Trigun isn't redone into Samurai Jack.

since when is drawing all your cartoons the exact same way good anyway? so that star wars cartoon guy draws all his shows exactly the same style. well fuck him, it looks like crap. Do it once and it's original and inventive, twice and you're a stupid hack.

that drawing makes me want to punch stupid anakin. what a jerk

Wait a second? No listings for DBGT? This better mean it's going to be a 'surprise' later in the year. I want my Grand Tour! I want my mercenary-style, made-only-for-the-money adventures!

Sorry pal, but I bet you don't GT at least for another year.

BTW is it just me or does Cartoon Network go insane with that Iron Giant movie?  They played it for like 3 days over and over again and now they're showing it again....

every cartoonist does it. it's their "style." Matt Groening did it! if it weren't for the fleshtone color, the Futurama characters would look exactly like Simpsons characters.

BTW, what's the deal with that? Groening stated in a Simpsons interview that he hates the "ghastly pink colour that passes for caucasian", so why make the Futurama characters pink? Is it just to reinforce the "official" Groening line; that "Futurama" is real but "The Simpsons" is a TV show?

BTW, this is probably old news, but did you know that Groening has stated that "Futurama" is his favourite show, over "The Simpsons" in a 2002 BBC interview?
