Well I don't really know many late night talk show hosts, except for Letterman. I have enjoyed the little skits where they show members of the public doing funny things (walking strange, looking at things, wearing something odd), and they make a song up to it. That's funny.

The only other variety show I know is Australia's Rove. So, go rove!

I used to watch Letterman every night about ten years ago, now he's just embarassing to watch.  Leno's a bore.  Conan is pretty stupid but he's always booking good bands.  I've not seen Kilborn or Stewart enough to offer an opinion.  So, I'll vote for Conan strictly based on the musical guests.

I've only seen Letterman and Rove. They are both good, but because Letterman is on nearly every night, I'll vote for him.

I haven't seen The Daily Show in a long time, but I have to say it's sexier than Conan.

Just so you know, I'm watching Conan for the first time in weeks. I also frequented this Conan website 3 years ago and posted in its forums. Now I discovered that one of my current co-workers is the webmaster for that site. That's hella weird.

Wait, Nix, are you saying that "Daily Show" is the best because of them, or that Stewart himself is the best?

I vote Conan. Vomiting Kermit owns.

As much as I love Coney, I have noticed this too. Therefore, despite my affection for O'Brien's show (especially during the Andy Richter years), I must vote Daily Show.

Yeah, its a running gag, and conans interviews are so funny, a class above the rest, his segments are awesome, He's monolauges are'nt the best but I dont think he tries that hard. I hate jay leno and letterman bores me. This is why I stay up
everynight and fuck up my first class the next morning, And its worth it.

Preperation H raymond and joel goddard are always good for a laugh.

Personally I'm a fan of Letterman. It's on here at varying times from midnight to 2am, so I get to see it occasionly.

I also don't mind Jon Stewart.

I vote Connan, but I would have voted John Stewart.  I just concluded that John stewart isn't a late night talk show host, he's a news caster (and riffer) different line of work.  Anyway I like both about the same.  Go Connan (or John).

Yeah I like Letterman as well. The show started to bottom out in early 2003 but after he got back from having the shingles, it was pretty funny again.

I voted "Other". Why? Five words:

 Space Ghost Coast To Coast

Alright, technically I'm cheating but I don't give a shit about talk shows anymore. Graham Norton's move from weekly shindig to daily drivel has worn thin, as has the paper-thin characters of The Kumars At No. 42. Losers like Ruby Wax, Johnny Vaughn, Dom Joly (previously Trigger Happy TV) and Ralf Little (how the fuck?!) have jumped on the talk show bandwagon and added nothing new to the genre. Parkinson's lucky enough to have been doing the talk show thing for donkeys years now and Jonathon Woss (sic) can't really go wrong by emulating his radio show into TV format.

Oh, and I don't really know any of those American talk shows.  :p

So I go for Space Ghost, simply because it's original, unpredictable, lo-fi and really gets a different kind of response from the celebrity guests. Too bad they don't show it over here anymore.  :(

Conan is okay but I've never understood his huge appeal completely.  Even as a Simpsons writer he was below average (for that time I mean).

The rest (except for the one I am about to mention) pretty much honestly.  Just not funny.

However, Jon Stewart and the Daily Show both rock a ton.  True, Stewart laughs at his jokes too much, but perhaps its simply too hard to hold it in given that the Daily Show has some of the funniest writing around.  Stewart himself has excellent delivery (when he's not laughing), and all the other segments and reporters are great as well.  Plus, the guests are often more interesting then most of those shows, getting politicians, analysts, etc that fit with the rest of the show instead of random celebrities (though there are random celebrities as well of course), a practice of the other shows that I have grown tired of.

One of the best shows on.

a few months ago i would've been with conan all the way, but now that i've seen the daily show, i have to go with jon stewart. the writing is hilarious, and his delivery is pitch perfect (tho he does tend to laugh at his own jokes a bit; but who can blame him?). i was ecstatic when he had his little mini-sweep at the emmies.  :)

Marge vs. the Monorail was above average humor wise I admit, but set up some problems in seasons 5 and 6 of the show getting too wacky.  And anyway, the mediocre Homer Goes to College cancels it out (I liked it at first and still do....but these days when I watch it I tend to cringe at certain moments...its the worst 1-8 episode easily I think).  For the record "New Kid on the Block" is a very sweet episode, but still seems to be on the average side of things.

To my knowledge, those are the only three episodes Conan wrote. And I think they're all solid episodes. But, aside from that, Conan doesn't write all of his own stuff, so it doesn't really matter how his episodes were.

Anyone see Lettermen last night? He announced they where going to blow up a giant pumpkin, and spent about 5 minutes setting up the bit. Then someone handed him a note from the fire department saying they couldn't do it because it was raining. Much like Calculon, Dave doesn't do two takes (for real) that's what made it so funny.

Does anyone else have Trio? Apparently, I do. So I've been watching classic Late Night w/ David Letterman reruns from about 20 years ago. They are fucking awesome--I recommend watching it to anyone who still thinks Conan is the best latenight talkshow host.
