... for Douglas Adams fans:

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Movie has not been dropped after all.

Quote
9/18/02 - According to "The Hollywood Reporter", the project is indeed still alive, with the news that Spyglass Entertainment has hired the screenwriter of Chicken Run and other kids movies to pick up where Adams was when he died, to finish polishing the script in preparation for a possible greenlight someday. Douglas Adams will receive a posthumous executive producer credit.
I like the idea of Jim Carrey as the two headed president of the galaxy, Zaphod Beeblbrox.

That is good news, I hope it, like the book, will be a trilogy in five parts  :D

I think that, for a HHGTG movie to work, there has to be relatively unknowns starring in it. Any "name" celebrity, like Jim Carrey, is only going to take away from the movie. I'd rather see "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" than "Jim Carrey in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

I reckon he could pull it off.
But i'm not sure of any other "name" actors in the other roles.

I'd like to see if anyone would have any good ideas for Arthur and Ford and the other characters.

John Cleese would make a good Arthur Dent if he was a bit younger looking IMO (he'd have the humour and the accent) but I would also prefer if there was a minimum of big name actors in it.

I don't have any problems with Ford or Zaphod being played by Americans, of course if Dent or Trillian are there will be Hell to pay.

Actually, Trillian was American in the TV series.

Douglas Adams wrote a few scripts for the Pythons, for Flying Circus I think.

*two year bump*

It's finally up. The teaser trailer for "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is up.  And it looks awesome.

Now, there's no footage involved, but daa-yum.  To make up for the lack of footage, there's production drawings.  I'm not sure about the Heart of Gold's design, but everything else looks top-notch.

I like the Heart Of Gold, it's kinda odd-looking.  In keeping with the spirit of the thing, really.

I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Zooey Deschanel in the role of Trillian.

Oh, and Martin Freeman will be great as Arthur Dent.

Coming 2006...the big-screen adaptation of the comic book "Thor", starring Busta Rhymes in the title role.

Mos Def is a rapper/actor who's been chosen to play Ford Prefect.  I don't know if he'll be any good, even though he must have been decent in order to win the audition.

And, looking through the book, there's no mention of Ford's race.  So techinically he could be a black man.

I don't think they chose Mos Def to play Ford just because he's black.  He's acted before, and been pretty good in those roles.  Mos isn't a "typical" rapper, so it won't be like Chris Tucker playing Ford.  I mean, hey, I want to see some footage before I judge him.

He was played by a white guy in the BBC Series.  But, then Trillian was played by Sandra Dickinson who's a blonde, yet in the book she's got dark hair.

It matters not, in the scheme of things.  I don't see why Mos Def's casting is a problem.

Looks nifty, I'm surprised they didn't use the original music though in that teaser trailer, I hope they use it in the film.

As long as Mof speaks properly and wears those funny Pyama's, I don't really care.

I'm bummed out that the Heart of Gold isn't shaped like a shoe, but the design as such is pretty cool. I'm also iffy about the hact that Disney's doing it, but if they can keep the Disney-ness out of it, then it's a-ok with me.

Nah, the general public wouldn't understand that.  Besides, April 2 is a Saturday.  "Sin City" is released into theaters the day before.

I love the 42 in the left hand corner of the trailer. And Mos Def isn't terrible. If I recall correctly he was in the Italian Job and he didn't do such an injustice to the film.
