Computer animation nothing.  The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had better animation.

And TMNT also had a higher budger for animation, probably. But, as I said before, when BANDAI took the rights to DBZ, the animation quality went up 10 fold. To compare the quality of early DBZ to later DBZis comparing 1st Season Simpsons to 3rd and higher season of the Simpsons.

Oh, and just to answer the question of that West Layfette scumbag...here is evidence of the supposed "no characterization" of DBZ.

Character One:
Piccolo
The physical manefestation of the evil side of Earth's Guardian, Piccolo swore that he would kill Goku because he viewed him responsible (and rightly so) for the death of his father, Piccolo-Diamno. However, his revenge was put on hold by the arrival of the first Sayian, Radditz, and, during the ordeal, Goku was killed. (It should be noted that Goku was holding Radditz when Piccolo shot both of them, so maybe it wasn't as accidental as it seemed).

Due to circumstance, it was up to Piccolo to train Gohan, the son of the man he hates more than anything, even vile Purdue scum, in order to help the Earth (and himself) when the remaining Sayians attacked. Through the training, Piccolo eventually felt compassion for the orphaned boy, and through continued exposure to Gohan, Piccolo is eventually "redeemed" and becomes, well, as less evil as a manifestation of evil can be.

Piccolo is also a 7ft tall, green-skinned Namek. He had never visited his homeworld, in fact never knew it existed until the arrival of the Sayians, and only first saw it after his people had been systematically exterminated by the tyrant Frieza. In one word, Piccolo is the spiritual center of the show.

Unfortunately, there are no good Anime Music Videos about Piccolo.

Character Two:
Gohan

The son of the strongest man on earth, Gohan just really wants to be allowed to be a normal kid. He knows he has great power deep within him, but would rather not fight unless he has to. However, he will fight when he needs to, and eventually his duty to his friends and people make him a worthy fighter. Gohan's humanity softens Piccolo's hard edges, and Gohan still looks for Piccolo when he needs guidance.

His undying devotion to his father often makes him seem a little too willing to try and save Goku, but cannot be faulted for protecting his father and mentor. The two learn to fight side by side and eventually equal in power when Gohan is around 11 yrs of age. Gohan is perhaps the strongest of the team, though he never takes things very seriously until he has to.

Character Three:
Krillin

A short, bald, monk, Krillin has been Goku's best friend since their childhood training with Master Roshi. Krillin is the most powerful pure human alive; but, is usually surrounded by more powerful non-humans (Sayians, half-Sayians, Nameks, andriods). He knows that he has little chance competeing with them, and so he appears to be a great coward. He will fight when needed to, but knows that he can do very little in the big picture. Even though, he is still a wise-ass, and usually yelling slurs from the side-lines.

Perhaps Krillin's most important moment was when he had the means and could have very well destroyed Andriod 18. He had a remote designed to set off the bomb in her chest and prevent further chaos, but he could not bring himself to destroy her. (Also, it should be noted, that Android 18 was constructed to be a very tall, very blonde, very beautiful killing machine who once showed mercy to Krillin, which shows why he found himself in such a position.) He could have prevented the death of his friends and innocents, but, instead, his feelings toward her made him let her go. Then, as soon as he destroyed her remote, she was destroyed and her engery absorbed by the Andriod Cell, making him achieve "perfection." Because of his actions, many more innocent people (as well as Goku)died because of his inactions. He has never forgiven himself for screwing up the one opportunity where *he* was the most important person.

Recomended AMV: Lit's "Over My Head"

Fine, so the characters are okay. . . . but only if you watch the show for awhile.  To the casual critic they are "The Big Green Badass", "The Annoying Kid", and "Smartass the Wonder-Midget."

Oh, looks like I win!   :evillaugh: And I didn't even get to the really interesting characters yet (Vegeta and Trunks). Most of the characterization in the show comes betwen those two.

The point being is simply this: if you only watch a show for only a few minutes, of course you'll see only the easy sketches of characters. Just like people new to Futurama will see only "one-eyed alien" or "alcoholic robot" the first few times they see it. It's all about giving it time.

Now, can we all just please go back to mocking Friends and how its overstayed its welcome?   :D

Fine, this fight may be over...but one day, either IU or Purdue will be up in flames, and they'll have us to thank for it!

Good showing, old chap.
