This trailer may be mature or not suitable for work:  Deadpool II

I really enjoyed the first Deadpool.

There is something deeply creepy and unsettling about Deadpool-as-Bob-Ross that I can't quite put my finger on, but I did appreciate the Betty White reference (and, like winna, enjoyed the first Deadpool and am hoping the second one will be just as entertaining).

My only gripe: no Ant-Man in the trailer. He's in the cast list but I assume he'll have a bigger role (no pun intended) in Avengers 4.

Otherwise: this movie looks FLAMES. I still need to see about 5 MCU films, one of which is Doctor Strange, which looks greaaaat.

I feel like this movie is going to be kind of a clusterfuck, but I suppose that's not necessarily a bad thing. I just hope it's not four goddamned hours long.

And I could not recommend Doctor Strange more highly, Danny. I generally have no real use for Benedict Cumberbatch, but he's quite charming here. I had also expected the movie to be more self-serious than it wound up being; it's actually pretty dang funny (as Doctor Strange's cameo in the most recent Thor movie would suggest). Oh, and the film's visuals are absolutely stunning. And Rachel McAdams is in it, which I did not know going in but was quite pleased to discover.

I liked Dr Strange also.  I don't keep up with Marvel's movies, but I watched that one and enjoyed it.

Great trailer UrL!  This thread is gonna be great!

That's what I assumed as well, especially since Ant-Man and the Wasp is coming out between Avengers 3 and 4 (same with Captain Marvel, who I assume will also be involved). There doesn't seem to be any sign of Hawkeye either. I suppose they don't need to cram everybody into the first trailer.

I would definitely advise being caught up because it looks like literally everything so far is leading up to this.

I feel like this movie is going to be kind of a clusterfuck, but I suppose that's not necessarily a bad thing. I just hope it's not four goddamned hours long.

The Russo brothers also directed Captain America: Civil War and managed to balance everbody's screen time into a coherent story. All they have to do is not try and make everybody a main character.

Weirdly, I didn't particularly love Doctor Strange; I just found it kind of forgettable. I'll probably still rewatch it at some point because he obviously has an important role in IW.

Yes, but our posts have in fact veered toward a discussion of sequels (or, well, movies that exist in the same cinematic universe and therefore build off one another in a sequel-like fashion), so the point is well-taken. Perhaps it would be wise to move this MCU talk to another thread.

On the subject of trailers: A friend of mine brought this movie to my attention a couple months ago, and I must admit it looks pretty cool. I have mixed feelings about Alexander Payne--I find him kind of precious and pretentious--but hot damn can he assemble a great cast (as this trailer shows) that makes me chuckle, so I think I'll probably aim to see this movie when it comes out.

That thread has been listed on wikiPEELia as the "Upcoming Movies Thread" and was being used as such; I was under the impression that the title was a joke about how so many upcoming movies were sequels and remakes (and it appears they still are!). Movie trailers were posted in that thread to spur discussion of, well, those movies. Is this thread's purpose not covered by that thread already?

Some merging by a moderator may be called for, is all I'm saying.

I don't know, man, I've been wishing for a month that someone would close the "What Reminds You of PEEL?" thread, to no avail; all our prayers to moderators seem to fall on deaf ears. :(

As for the topic (of off-topic-ness!) at hand: When I saw this thread, the one we're currently posting in, was a thing, I actually did recall that we used to have a thread where people posted movie trailers, because I remembered posting in it myself; I guess I just assumed that original thread was dead, gone, and buried, and, seeing a need, winna had opened its replacement.

I had apparently forgotten the minor fracas over naming that had occurred when the original, rightful thread was initially opened and, like winna, assumed yesterday just by looking at the thread's title that it was meant for talk of sequels and remakes.

All of this is to say that merging the two threads is probably a good idea--the original has only fallen back to page two on this sub-forum, and was used as recently as October 2016 (which, in current PEEL time, is barely the blink of an eye). That said, I do want to advocate for not deleting any of these meta posts about the merging of the threads, if and when that day comes, just because that'll really take a shit on my goal to reach 10,000 posts--which, I think we can all agree, is the feel-good story of the PEEL-year...one worthy of its own upbeat, brightly-colored, jauntily-scored trailer, perhaps! ;)

Alright.  You got me Tedward.  I was looking for the thread that was that thread, but couldn't find it, and I really really wanted to share that YouTube video of a movie based on the game Rampage, so when I couldn't find that thread, I made this one.

I stand corrected, and I concede all of your points Tedward.  :)

Oh my god, I hadn't even made the connection between the trailer you posted (which I've only just now watched) and Rampage the video game, but I loved that game as a kid! I played Rampage World Tour on the PS1 quite religiously.

I mean, I don't quite understand the need to make a movie based on a game that is itself a sort of bastardization of the King Kong and Godzilla franchises (with some other mutant creatures added for flavor)--and the movie definitely seems to be playing the premise waaay too straight for it to come off as anything but hokey and ridiculous--but that's still sort of neat. I am disappointed that the titular rampage does not take place in Peoria, however, as that was among my favorite locales to trash in the video game.

Do you think Rampage World Tour was the first game in the series, or are you aware of the arcade title that predated it by about a decade? :3

Edit:. Yeah, that was precisely why I felt the need to share it.

I don't like Wasp's costume. It looks so bland compared to the gorgeous one shown at the end of Ant-Man.

Looks like a visually delightful movie though. I love how creative Marvel sometimes gets with their action set-pieces.

Woooooo

There's a new poster as well. Weird that Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillian, Pom Klementieff, and Benedict Wong aren't credited at the top, despite their characters being on the poster (They're at the bottom though, along with some others. Also, Peter Dinklage, who must be a new character). Holy shit, this movie is jam-packed.

Still no sign of Hawkeye or Ant-Man... I'm thinking this means that they have very minor roles that are being mostly saved for Avengers 4.

I seriously cannot wait for this movie. It's only a bit over a month away but that's still gonna be a long-ass wait.

And now for something completely different...

I don't have a particularly nostalgic attachment to Mister Rogers' Neighborhood; I watched the show occasionally as a kid, but I was not as devoted to it as I was to other public broadcasting fare. That said, I think Fred Rogers was an interesting man, and I'm always up for these sort of behind-the-scenes pop culture documentaries (and I love me some mid-'60s to early '90s archival footage: that's my nerdy sweet spot), so methinks I'll be seeing this when it comes to theaters.

I've caught bits of his show over the years, of course, and he always struck me as an interesting guy. Am I the world's most cynical person—for having difficulty believing that anyone could possibly be as unfailingly nice as the curated images of him suggest?

A couple of people I know come to mind, including a former coworker who for years was relentlessly upbeat, to the point of annoyance. He travels more on business than anyone else I've ever known, mostly regionally, and both in person and on social media he never let up his attitude: "It's a great morning and we're going to kick some butt..." at a customer visit/conference/industry seminar or whatever. Up before dawn, drinking coffee with friends at Whistler Mountain before hitting the slopes for some informal racing. Religiously working out at the gym for at least an hour a day on most days. Expounding on what a beautiful day it was and how life is wonderful, and on, and on.

Yes, he was a closet alcoholic who was destroying his life with the bottle and the insane stress of his job (and maybe stimulants, too?), who one day disappeared after posting a cryptic note on FB. He had checked himself into a rehab center for a month or so.

Maybe Fred Rogers really was the embodiment of love that he projected? Thanks for posting this trailer, Gorks...it got me wondering whether anyone had written a biography of him, and I discovered this interesting article and interview. It's worth skimming, at least.

People are capable of behaving in that manner for long periods of time, even the rest of their lives.

I also wouldn't knock your acquaintance (friend?) for utilizing alcohol (or stimulants) to deal with life in his private time.  It wasn't killing him, nor was it affecting his interactions with others negatively (from what you've shared, he was nice to everyone he came across).  This idea that using chemicals somehow reflects on somebody's character negatively is, as far as I'm concerned, a lie perpetuated by society.  Humans have been utilizing alcohol for centuries, perhaps millennia, and drinking alcohol does have some health benefits, I am quite certain, even if they are relatively miniscule.  It's a relatively new phenomenon that we consider people alcoholics if they drink on a daily basis, and with no other information provided, my guess is that he felt his drinking had become excessive, so he did something about it.  The fact that he decided of his own accord to seek help to adjust something he felt was an issue without making a scene about it, to me, adds virtue to his character rather than detract from it.  I don't know the specifics of the situation though, so this evaluation is primarily speculative.  My point, however, being that chemicals are tools, just like food.  If they produce positive results, then they are positive, but in and of themselves, they are neither positive nor negative.

If I were to guess on Mr. Rogers, he was the man he was portrayed to be.  However, I do not make judgements about how people are based on perceptions of them.  I do not consider anyone good, yet at the same time, I believe humans are predominately not bad, that their existence is generally positive.  The people most would consider bad I see doing far more good than those most would consider good, this is because they are often doing for others, despite their own short comings, and they are often tested under the worst conditions.

I think it reasonably human to question how good others are.  At the same time I consider it highly judgemental and hypocritical for any human to think they have the capacity to evaluate whether another human being is good or bad.  The person best suited to even possibly being to judge that matter, and even an individual who attempts to judge themselves is wholly inadequately prepared even for that task, since humans are often filled with biases.  Furthermore, none of us has ever had the ability or power to choose the conditions by which we exist.  This is why I consider it wholly unnecessary and pretentious to begin to judge others... One will never possess all of the facts, at the bare minimum, the thoughts and intentions of others... And the only individual one may have some modicum of capacity for choice and the capacity for improvement in reality is the self.  Judging others doesn't even come close to being a process for improvement, but rather a detraction and a way in which to waste time which could be more profitably spent elsewhere.

This isn't a judgement on your observations, Tachyon, but merely the reflections of my own on the nature of evaluating people.  You're the one best capable to determine if you're cynical, or overly cynical, as it would be unrighteous for me to say either way.  I'm a poor judge of character anyways, and I have loads of room for improvement on my self. :p

I kind of want to avoid details related to this movie but April is just so far away. So far I've managed to avoid Captain Marvel trailers but this is on a whole new level.

So that's a thing.

I'm considering actually going to see this when it comes out.  On the one hand, it's probably going to be awful.  I mean, I know it's going to be awful.  It looks like it's going to be awful.  On the other hand: Illyana Rasputina on the big screen.

Disney's constant bending over for China is gonna amount to diddly-squat for Mulan. I'm sure it'd do fine in the domestic box office, but the corona virus has fucked up their primary demographic.

Yeah, I'm very much opposed to all these cash-grabbin', nostalgia-milkin' remakes of the Disney animated canon, and have refused to watch any of 'em. It's mind-boggling (and infuriating!) to me that we live in an age that simultaneously diminishes the value of animated films while leaning heavily on computer-generated visual effects in so-called "live-action" movies.

That said, Mulan is probably better-suited to a live-action remake than most other Disney classics because, besides Mushu, it doesn't really have too many fantastical elements (e.g., talking lions or dancing candelabras or whatever). Like, the original movie is highly stylized (I'm thinking of a particular segment in "A Girl Worth Fighting For"), but the action/adventure elements are easily replicable in live action.

Well, there's no Mushu in this version, but they've added a witch character as one of the villains, so there will still be fantastical elements.

Honestly, I think that an action movie is probably a better way to adapt the source material than a musical comedy with funny animal sidekicks, but that doesn't mean that this will be a better film than the animated one.

And they've both been postponed.

I guess I still won't be seeing Illyana on the big screen anytime soon.  Oh, well.  I could always go read the comics again, I suppose.
