That was the best episode since season 2's premiere.

I'm really glad that they addressed how gasoline has a shelf-life. That might be a first for post-apocalyptic fiction. It's one of the biggest nagging nerd-complaints I've had about the show up until now.

I also liked the plot developments with Evil Phil.

Shiiiiit, there's no way I'd like to be Tandy when Phil gets out of those stocks.

I imagine he'll come to be thankful to Tandy for saving his life and putting him in the stocks for his own safety before he's let loose again.

But who knows. That's the sort of thing they could easily subvert for laughs.

I was expecting Phil to have gone for good.

Glad to see someone finally point out to the others in the group that they are in no way perfect. I'm willing to bet Mike learns others are alive in next week's episode by spotting the giant Santa Claus balloon above the mansion. :D

Holy crap, that was easily the best episode since the season 2 premiere.

I'm glad to see the group finally getting along, even if Tandy was still being slightly dick-ish about the gift he got for Phil to give to Erica. I thought Melissa proposing to Todd was great, as was Phil suddenly collapsing during it!

Seems everyone predicted this, though, since Boris Kodjoe has been listed as a guest actor since the first time he showed up in the show. Really excited to see what happens with Mike, next week, too. Everything's going nuts! :D

(Also, I don't think I've laughed as much at an episode of this show until this one! Will Forte was on fire.)

I believe that's the last episode until 2016... Networks generally don't broadcast additional new episodes of their shows in December once a Christmas special has been aired, for obvious reasons. :p

But yes, it was a pretty terrific episode. Tandy blowing up the yacht is the hardest I've laughed at this show in quite a while, and it's nice to see the writers finally getting a good handle on all the supporting characters.

It's been confirmed by official sources (someone who works on the show confirmed it on reddit & Chris Miller confirmed it on Twitter) that there are 10 episodes airing before Christmas and 8 more sometime (early) next year.

According to Wikipedia, next week's episode is simply called "Christmas".

Whoops, my bad! I really didn't expect them to have two episodes set over the holiday season, but I suppose given the cliffhanger ending of the most recent episode, it makes perfect sense.

Well, this is fantastic news. :)

Oh shit, I guess that's it for Phil? Or will the opener for the second-half of the season reveal him being revived? :p

In fact, I can see them pulling something like that. At the moment it looks like Phil is dead & Mike is gonna make it to Earth, but I wouldn't be surprised if Phil suddenly comes back to life & Mike burns up in the atmosphere - this would be a lose-lose situation for Tandy. Unless they're finally done with punishing his character (which I would much prefer).

He's definitely going to make it. They wouldn't have put it together in such an ambiguous way if he were going to die. Also, this show doesn't have any balls and never follows through with its convictions.

The Last Man on Earth midseason finale postmortem: Will Forte on THOSE two scenes and what's next

Based on what Forte says in that interview, it seems Phil is definitely dead & Mike will most likely make it down to Earth safely.

Mel Rodriguez did it too, but it doesn't have as much of a "holy shit!" effect as Forte's.

Well, I was wrong. It turns out young Tandy is shown in a dream that Mike has whilst trapped out at sea.

*edit*

Interesting first episode back! It's a nice change to have an entire episode not to feature Tandy or the rest of the gang. I wonder if Pat will end up appearing on the show again, considering he's way out at sea? And my bet on how Mike will end up with Tandy: he'll eventually find the old neighbourhood in Tucson where they used to live in season 1 & discover the note Melissa left for Carol. Then he'll have to make his way back to Miami again & eventually discover the gang.

That was definitely the funniest episode of the show, by far.

The part which swapped between Tandy masturbating & Todd on the jet ski, Carol pronouncing "groin" as "grawn", Tandy's "biggest bastard on Earth" joke, the list goes on.

And to top it off: we finally got to see Tandy reunite with Mike! Which I still feel 50-50 about. I thought we'd get to see how Mike explores Tucson and gradually learns where his brother is, capping off the season with their reunion; but now that he's already in the picture I'm curious to see where the rest of the season takes us.

My guess: Mike will volunteer to impregnate Carol so she & Tandy can start a family.

The ending with Phil (still not on board with calling him Tandy, especially now that Nancy is dead) crotchpunching Mike seemed to be a clear implication that Phil in that brief moment already thought of that possibility and was trying to prevent it, right? Super funny.

Wow. That was kind of a letdown. All this hype building up Mike & Tandy's reunion and Mike turns out to be kind of an asshole.

We've literally just been given Phil vs. Tandy 2.0. Sigh. Everytime this show finally steps up its game it takes a huge swerve and becomes tedious again. It's a shame, they need to focus on something other than the group giving Tandy constant shit & Tandy trying to win their respect. :hmpf:

I agree. It's an enjoyable series, but, like you say, every time it looks as if it's going to take off and become something great, they pretty much immediately bring it back down to just being kind of fun and disposable.

I'm glad Tandy & Mike are on good terms again, but now Tandy and Todd aren't! Ugh! See what I mean! They fix one thing and another breaks. :laff:

However, I'm fascinated to find out who's behind the drone & in the hazmat suit in the next episode! Shame we have to wait 2 weeks. :hmpf:

That was quite a heavy episode; I'm hoping Mike doesn't really have the virus and shows up again somewhere down the line.

Since the guys don't seem to know who Pat is, it confuses me greatly that Mike didn't bring him up in conversation at all. I'm intrigued to see who the 2 newbies accompanying him are. But why do they have guns, I wonder.

We're at the end of the second season and Melissa is still a bitch. :nono:

Also, mega bonus points for having Tandy drive to Tucson in the DeLorean & the BTTF theme song playing over it. :laff:

The sex scene was pretty damn hilarious.

Easily the highlight of the season for me - that's the hardest a broadcast network show's made me laugh in a very long time.

Having said that, I agree with the general sentiments expressed here about the show - every time it seems like it's going somewhere great, it slips back into its general potential-squandering mediocrity again.

Also, the season finale was nowhere near as great as the season 1 finale (even if the season as a whole was a lot better for the most part).

I just binged this show after having only watched a few episodes when it originally aired.

It's actually a really good underrated show (deserves a lot higher than its 7.3 imdb rating), shame it was canceled, bloody Fox strikes again.

For me it has the perfect blend of humor and heart, reminds me of Futurama that way.
