Star Wreck is awesome.. tought i only watched the last movie, i think there is many more before..

Do watch Lost Contact.  It explains how Pirk and company ended up in Earth's past.

The others are a fun way to spend a half-hour or so each.  Remember, Samuli Torsossen (Pirk) started his Star Wreck series when he was 12 years old.  He was 20 years old when he wrote, directed, produced and starred in Pirkinning but it took him 6 years to render all the special effects and have a dedicated soundtrack (which is awesome!) made for his movie.

I watched Wrath Of Khan for the first time evar, 92% on RT but I didn't find it that great, some kinda cheesy bits.

People say the same thing about Citizen Kane which, viewed from our perspective, isn't all that spectacular in its cinematography. In fact it looks clichéd because we're used to it - everything uses the same techniques.

However, Wrath of Khan was ground breaking in its day. You have to view it through the eye of someone who hasn't seen 30 years of increasingly spectacular special effects and realise that in many ways it was the first to do all of these amazing things. Like Star Wars, which, viewed today, looks make look like a cheesy schlockfest...

It doesnt to many of us..

Every time i got an eye on my classic SW DVDs ..or the movies pop in the TV im amazed on how well they get old.. it simply looks atemporal.. the hairdos may delate a bit but not much.. the sets..the clothes..the gadgets.. the ships.. even the very old original movie effects..they do their job rather well.. you may say "antique" but not cheesy

I did kinda go all "fanboy" when I saw the trailer for the first time.  I take back my misgivings about Pegg as Scotty.   The movie looks pretty damn good on the basis of that trailer.

After seeing this trailer, all I got to say that it's either going to be a big hit or a big rape for Star Trek.

If a "big hit" means a "big hit into the gut of any fan" and "big rape" means "big rape", then both.

Not necessarily true. I thought the trailer for Nemesis looked excellent, and that made the trekker in me happy. Then the film turned up, and the trekker in my was very sad.

Looking forward to the new movie. Nemesis made me a sad panda.

TOS has to be my fav series, classic! Scotty could do anything with anything, despite what the laws of physics had to say about it. That's one hardcore engineer. Only good part of DS9 was like the two epic space battle episodes... venture galaxy class = best ship ever.

I think its good that they are trying to start over, trek got a bit wrapped up in itself. But knowing how much cloverfield sucked, plus the trailer not making it a clear win / suck makes me a little nervous.

Well, the trailer is obviously NOT aimed at the regular Star Trek fan, it's rather an attempt to attract those who little or no knowledge at all of the show. Come to think of it, Abrams' Star Trek film may end up like Quantum of Solace...a Bond that was more like a Bourne-wannabe.

Except that Star Wars tech has a roughly 10k year headstart on Star Trek tech.

Still don't have transporters though.

Simple reason why Star Trek would win: beam torpedoes into enemy ship.

And Trek can't leave the galaxy or even cross it in a reasonable amount of time.

And your assertion depends on SW deflectors not blocking matter streams.

Also, blasters are not lasers

The Ori would probably kick ST and SW's asses quite easily.

The borg would be the best bet for victory though, I mean if you really wanted to back a losing horse, might as well back the one that will come closest to winning.

I love the borg so much.

True. But ever since the replicators abandoned bug form for human form, I have less love for them. I want a bug-flavour replicator.

And I think we can all agree that the emo replicator was possibly the lamest character in the history of science fiction, right? I hope? The only humanoid replicator I ever liked was replicarter, and even her I only liked so much (and her being amanda tapping helped)

Wait, why are we talking about stargate in the star trek thread? I just posted about stargate in the stargate thread before this. <_< >_> oh well.

:edit: lol, I guess this shows how excited we all are about the new movie.

And how they explain this? Is this a restart/reimagination (like Galactica, or new Bond movies..and so) or not?
Because last time i checked the original 1701 looked like this:

Or now this is a refit wich was followed by the posterior movies refit we all know..

Its funny also because they are using this model in the remasterized Star Trek DVD series ... will they re-re-release retconed (again) it with the new Abrams movie model?

*sigh*

Yeah, it's a relaunch. It's not like they ever made a secret out of the fact that Abrams does intend to create a new vision of Star Trek.

I guess Paramount considered this to be the last option after both Nemesis and Enterprise failed, yet they don't want to give up the franchise
